OK, as a fellow father, I want to help you save wherever possible.

1. Delay the purchase of baby stroller.
I might catch some flak for saying this but baby stroller is not a necessity. Some babies hate baby stroller due to our hot & humid weather so they might get a tad uncomfortable. Moreover, baby strollers don't really age well with your baby & by 1.5 or 2 years old, your baby would most probably want to walk around by themselves instead of being straddled into the stroller.

As an alternative, if you plan to bring your baby around for sight-seeing, you may consider baby carrier instead. It allows you better bonding with the baby & it's cheaper too.

2. Delay the baby bed too.
If your wife plans to breastfeed, there's a high chance that she'll have to breastfeed the baby in the middle of her sleep via the lying down position. Once she gets comfortable with this style, you're pretty much guaranteed that your baby will be co-sleeping with your wife most of the time & your baby bed will be rendered redundant by then.

Invest heavily & smartly in items that promote safety instead. Car seats are no joke. Before you buy one, I strongly suggest you to Google for reviews to ensure that what you bought is worth the bucks you paid for. If your car has ISOFIX mounts, get ISOFIX car seat.

Some other items that I don't see in your list are:
1) Breastpump if your wife is a working mom & plan to breastfeed. You pretty much have 2 choices only; Medela (pricy) or Spectra (economic). Both are good brands & I'll let you Google their pros & cons yourself. smile.gif

2) Baby milk bottles?

3) Spare some emergency funds too, especially for jaundice related issue which is pretty common. smile.gif

4) Last but not least, do remember to pamper your wife too. It's very easy for us guys to forget about our wife since we're anxious with the prospect of having an additional family member soon. smile.gif

1.stroller - a cheapest at rm140-180 will do
2.baby seat@car seat - let your baby try it out before decide
3.baby bed - sarong with motor will be a better option most of the time
4.newborn diaper - don't waste money on this, buy S size
5.baby cloth - ask around your friends and relatives
6.mittens - is this North pole?
7.Baby towel - normal towel will do, more important is change it regularly and don't wash it with normal detergents.
8.Blanket - cotton towel will do the trick
9.Netting - get number 13 will do
10.Rubber matt - if using cotton diaper, yes this is needed.
11.TYT oil - can get few bottles, at least 1 big for house use, small bottle when you are going out.
12. milk bottle(stainless steel or glass ones, avoid plastic) - getting plastic with BPA free will do and do not buy the Avent, sometimes babies don't like it.
13 Mosquito net - repeating stuff
14 baby lotion, rash cream, baby oil - can get anywhere
15 maternity pads for ur wife - 1 bag will be enough, make sure give your wife "sang fa" soup to clear out all the dirty blood.
16 baby bath tub
17 socks and hoods
18 cotton diaper, for daytime usage(disposable ones R expensive, only for nite time)
22. Spare some emergency funds - spend rm1600 in GH for C-sec(if some complications) is better than waste >rm5000 in private hospital will keep your wallet full.

That's Chinese herbal soup, meant to clear dirty stuffs. If you are not Chinese, I'm pretty sure other races should have such herbs to clear all those dirty stuffs after delivery.
But beware(depending to person to person also), it may cause some serious "blood shed", like normal period only 200-300ml, after drinking this soup may have 2-4X extra. This will really freak you guys out sweat.gif

sorry for the baby car seat, I beg to differ.. you should get 1 first, because you should use it when you bring your baby home from the hospital... most people will say just carry la (actually very unsafe).. but please don't compromise on safety...

I agree with this. You should always bring your baby home in a baby/infant car seat, unfortunately many people still carry baby in their hands because in malaysia there is no law stating that they must..

as father of 3 boys .. below is my suggestion

if you plan to buy baby cloth for 1-6 months .. buy white color ... as it can be re-used for next baby boy or girl

baby car seat you should buy those can fit till 2 years at least .. buy good brand like mine .. can used for 3 kids .. smile.gif

baby stroller .. no need first .. unless u really want to go out jalan.. better dont for 3 months .. baby easy kena virus...

baby bed .. buy those which can convert to normal bed .. to cater till 1 years old .. \

i dont use sarong for my kids .. dont like the idea swinging their otak up and down

playpen .. depends if you want to put at living hall .. else dont waste the space dont buy

bouncer .. buy the big one if you want .. anyway they only used for baby 1-5 months .. as moslty 6 months baby can turn their body so not safe anymore..

toys buy 1-2 from fisher price .. althoug expensive .. but it is safer as baby like to jilat ..

pampers for newborn buy 1 set enough ..the rest can buy s size.. buy it during jusco members day .. cheaper..

maternity pads look for pigeon warehouse sales .. within this few months should get 2 packets

nursing bra .. when got discount can buy after delivered..

Owh, sorry on the car seat part, but delaying on the stroller would be good choice

But as for me, even when my baby was 1month, she still wasnt really strong enough to sit on the car seat, what i did was i asked my wife to sit at the back and drive real slow sweat.gif i know still it wasnt safe but that was the only way, before your baby strong enough to actually sit on it....

For milk bottles, don't buy starter set. U can buy just one bottle to test out to see if it suit your baby. In my case, I have to switch three brand before settling with the right one.

In most cases, the teat comes along with the bottle & it can't be used in any other bottles of different brand. Therefore when the teat doesn't suit your baby, you have to end up changing the entire bottle to another brand. biggrin.gif

Yea, some brands work that way. For example, Tommie Tippee's bottles are usually very wide so the teats are not really suitable for other brands' bottles.

Warning though. If you wife decides to breastfeed, you can either delay the bottle purchase or if you insist to get 1 ready, buy 1 with teats that mimics human breast. There are lotsa brands out there so do perform your due research. smile.gif

IMHO, sterilizer is not a necessity. It's a good thing to have but I feel that it takes up a lot of space & more often than not, you'll find that sterilizing the bottles & teats in a pool of warm water did the job faster & easier. biggrin.gif

BPA free is still plastic...
Straight from de source is still de best... glass is still de best choice for substitutes, followed by stainless steel...

Well, if you don't apply excessive heat to it, the plastic won't deform easily.
Glass will break, that's potential hazard.

Indication of bottle suitability

(A) Your baby like it (because the shape and hardness fits the mouth). You will push the bottle away frequently

(B) Right flowrate (feeding should be done within 30 min before milk turn sour)

© Colic baby require more advance bottles like Dr Brown or MAM.

Yep, mine is the carrier type, bought together as an attachment for the stroller, only that i find it weird, i mean the way to secure on the seat

Carrier type i think is more appopriate as the babies back is still not srrong enough to support themselves...

list :
1.stroller  -Delay until baby is born
2.baby seat@car seat - Delay until baby is born, it's not like you and wife will be going out often during her confinement and that way, you'll be able to get one that fits your baby well.
18 cotton diaper, for daytime usage(disposable ones R expensive, only for nite time) : memang cheaper but are you willing to wash 10-12 cloth diapers everyday?
*
- Swaddle blankets get those light weight ones so baby will not be overheated.
- And please ensure you get 6-8 baby bottles if your baby is not breastfeeding. You wifu will appreciate it especially during those early days when your baby feeds every 2-3 hours. Losing sleep to wash bottles to ensure you have a ready one is tiring leh. Wifu will need her rest.

Lots of mittens and hanker chief
Blanket no need just use cotton cloth napkin
3 advent newborn feeding bottle one for breastmilk one for formula and one for water
Nail clipper baby
Towel baby
Breast pump spectra hospital grade

And prepare to have not enough sleep in the early days
5 days after deliver mostly will have jaundice make sure enough breastmilk if not top up with formula to get the shit out if not another expenses hospital stay for jaundice

Correct Breastfeeding technique to avoid neck shoulder pain

I also bought baby weigh equipment coz if direct latch baby jaundice tend to sleep and feed lesser. Direct latch cannot see how much baby consume and check wet diaper

Urut and confinement for your lady to avoid wind enter arthiris

If baby prefer one side sleeping position remember to turn the other side or it will be flatten one side

It's very easy for us guys to forget about our wife since we're anxious with the prospect of having an additional family member soon. smile.gif

My 2 cents here in addition to what others have said:

* battery operated breast milk pump (believe me, difficult and tiring using hand pump)
* no need for both you & your wife to sleep in the same room as the baby (then, none of you can have a proper sleep). Rotate the night shift, one night you and next night your wife, and so on. Thus you need the extracted breast milk in warm bottle for your night shift.

All the best and congratulations to you & wife!

Cheerio.

Yes, the possibility is there. As with all accidents, anything can happen & parents will need to ensure very best that such incidents don't occur.

At the end of the day, it depends on the parents themselves to do what they're comfortable with. smile.gif

Congrats for you. Well I am on my first week parenthood LOL. So I might want to input some for you from my few day experience.

1) If breastfeed then is the best, should invest in a good pump and keep some container for storage.

2) If no breastmilk to produce then try to get some sample or buy just a small box of infant milk to test if is suitable for your baby.

That's all for now LOL

list :
1.stroller
2.baby seat@car seat
3.baby bed
4.newborn diaper
5.baby cloth
6.mittens
7.Baby towel
8.Blanket
9.Netting
10.Rubber matt
11.TYT oil
12. milk bottle(stainless steel or glass ones, avoid plastic)
13 Mosquito net
14 baby lotion, rash cream, baby oil
15 maternity pads for ur wife
16 baby bath tub
17 socks and hoods
18 cotton diaper, for daytime usage(disposable ones R expensive, only for nite time)
20. Breastpump
21. Baby milk bottles
22. Spare some emergency funds
23.sterilizer for milk bottle

If budget constraint those that I slash I believe you're not using that atm until baby is about 1 year old. So can save some from there. For the last one #23, pakai je air panas rendam your bottle there consider sterilize already one. Cheap way la. If your wife can breastfeed the first breastfeed is most crucial as those yellowish/whitish liquid is the best for baby's antibody

Get car seat which is suitable for newborns...dont understand your reasoning not using car baby car seat coz your baby not strong enough. Car seat for newborns have those that suitable for baby to lie on their back.

I totally agree with this. A carseat that suits a newborn is already designed FOR a newborn. If someone bang you while your wife holding the baby, trust me, the baby is not strong enough for that!!! The carseat will protect the baby. Read the carseat manual, and make sure you're using it correctly for the newborn. Especially with convertible carseats, the method to use it is different for newborn, for baby with head control and for front-facing. Don't get it wrong because we're talking about saving your baby's life here!!

To me, the one you can wait to buy is breastpump and bottles. Establish good direct breastfeeding first, then about a month before going back to work only start pumping and feeding bottle. No point buying breastpump, then find out breastfeeding not working out, then wasted the pump already.

My baby 1st ride on the car was in a baby basket where he can lie flat. And that basket can be buckle by seat belt. Hardly found selling in the shop now as the demand is low due to many parents see it not worth investing, as that basket only fit for baby till 2-months old.

TS, not forgetting what your wife intend to wear during her confinement. Sarong? Not many women in this generation knows how to wear sarong.. tongue.gif She can opt for long pants.

They have actually determined that baby lying down flat is not as safe as the current carseats. Technology and research, people who put their entire life studying car crashes have determined that rear-facing your baby at a 45 degree angle is the safest position for your baby in a car accident. Hardly found selling basket for cars because they have proven to be not as safe as modern carseats.

Anyway, buckle up with basket still better than the idea of carrying the baby in the car. tongue.gif
We used that for the 1st month only. After that he no longer fit into the basket, which we then switched to carseat.
And that was 8yrs ago, where research is not that in-depth yet. But we choose not to hand-carry the baby, wonder why parents nowadays still having thought of carrying their baby is safe... with so many news and information sharing on-line. rclxub.gif

I have a friend travelling from Penang back to Ipoh, putting his baby on a bouncer and strap it with seat belt. I scolded him when I heard bout it. vmad.gif
