I am thinking of getting the new macbook pro 13'', but i wanted to ask the regulars here a few questions first.

When i tried the game on someone's macbook pro 13' (but the 2014 edition), it seemed to work okay, but then plugging it into my 32" LG HDMI tv, there seemed to be a noticeable drop in framerate. I can't remember to what extent exactly, as i don't have the macbook with me here to try. I tweaked the settings alot and turned off the laptop display, leaving my tv as the only display, and this seemed to make the game okay for me again.

Therefore, i wanted to ask about the experience for those of you here with the new macbook pro? Or even the old one. I'm just curious, and i've done a bit of research online as to the performance and it has ranged from pretty decent, even with reasonably high settings, to reports of regular crashes.

Either way, I'm abit bothered given that the 2014 version of the MBP seemed to have abit of lag issues, and i wanted to ask for the experience of the gamers here.

Coincidentally i just bought the 2015 MBP 13"but with 16GB RAM. I've already installed Dota 2 but have yet to try it. Will let you know how it goes later.

But from what i've read/googled, the problems with Dota on Mac has more to do with the compatibility issue as some said Dota 2 is buggy/laggy with OSX.
Hardware wise there shouldn't be a problem IMO.

Have you tried running Dota via Windows on bootcamp with your friend's Macbook? That might solve the issues.

It's actually my girlfriend's macbook, but hers is the 2014 edition. So who knows.

Either way, i don't think it's a ram issue, i'm just worried about mac's reluctance to include some proper gpu's from nvidia or ati at least in their 13 inch editions. Either way, i'm getting mine tomorrow. Lemme know your experience with dota.

Playing with just bots, average fps with all settings low is btw 30-60, mostly in 40s.

ramping up the settings the macbook gets a bit hot and the fan kicks in overdrive.

but yea, not very stable with OSX. Noticed some crashes as well, but so far not during in-game.

I've hard that running it on windows through bootcamp or parallels would be better with regard to the compatibility issue. Tried that? Mine has been sitting in the box for 3 days, waiting to get a case for it haha.

nope, haven't tried bootcamp yet.
3 days without touching your new toy? haha i couldn't wait, i used mine since day 1 and i haven't even gotten a case yet since last week.
don't worry la, it doesn't scratch that easy if you are just leaving it at home on your desk. I just ordered a sleeve yesterday, have to wait another 2 weeks+ before i get it sweat.gif

If you have a PC with better specs you can stream the GPU power to your MacBook using steam in home streaming. I just tried it to my MacBook and the frame rate is really really high.

Ok found another really annoying bug?
The gameplay is now in slow motion!! Heroes movements are slow motion like while other background animation is moving at a normal speed. FPS average out around 40-50 so nothing to do with hardware limitation.

Just deleted Dota and reinstalling now...

Hmm. I do, but i'm going to the UK for a year this September so not a viable option. Either way, i'm okay with the mac settings.

Yeah bro so do i, my girlfriend and another friend's mac.

It's just for bots, am i right? Online mode should work fine. Another bug is that the message "dota has closed unexpectedly" always comes up when i close dota. No issue, but yeah.

Yep, just bot game. But online with your friend in bot game works fine.
And we get that message sometimes when we close the game too lol.
