QUOTE(Unseen83 @ Jun 29 2015, 06:48 PM) that guy need Nvidia gpu Every time turning on the computer, try check if the catalyst control centre have the memory overclocking unlocked on the Fury X.That's how the overclocker's forum said when they overclocked the HBM to 600Mhz. You can see if it works. They said there's bug on the catalyst control centre, every few reboots of the computer the memory overclocking is there unlocked haha. |

QUOTE(ngkhanmein @ Jun 29 2015, 06:32 PM) aduh jgn mrh.. Oh? Seem like the displayport blackscreen issue.this guy more bias than me. i really don't understand y he can't boot into the OS while his spec better than mine but loading OS sluggish like shit.. u guys got this issue??? Quite famous with 290X and 290. Recent vbios somehow fixed it. But apparently, some AIBs dont get the memo about latest vbios, so AIBs still flashes the same initial old problematic vbios for the 390x and 390 (rebrand is a rebrand no matter amd tries to deny it). EDIT: Sapphire and ASUS are confirmed to use the latest VBIOS for the 'rebranded' 390x and 390. This post has been edited by JohnLai: Jun 30 2015, 01:32 AM |

QUOTE(ALeUNe @ Jun 30 2015, 12:31 AM) Exactly the same thing, just that I probably went through more shit.I lost many hours of sleep and benchmark / article time. 3 hours ah? I spent some 6 hours at least. My rig works with R9 295X2 / R9 270X / R7 250 / R9 280X / GTX 980 / GTX 980 Ti / GTX 970. 1st card. R9 390X. Screen goes crazy. Manage to benchmark with Beta 15.5. Stress test OK, Windows is where things go shitty. I didn't use the driver from the CD. 4K didn't work, black screen. 2nd Card. R9 390. Black screen. WTH. OK fine. Not working. Changed CPU / MOBO / PSU / Drive / Install fresh and whatever - nope, not working. Fine, got the R9 Fury X. Installed driver from CD because whatever on the AMD site doesn't work. OK done. Works flawlessly. Tried the R9 390X now - Oh ok it works. Finally I get to bench it on 4K with no glitches. Now tried R9 390 - same shit. Arggh. Downgrade drivers / Upgrade drivers, nope didn't work. R7 370. Absolutely no problem. Final thoughts - AMD released quite some shitty stuff, I don't even know how to write about it. I didn't do any video like what he did because I am not a good presenter and I thought it could be a faulty card. My last encounter was just 2 hours ago, tried the R9 390 - black screen. Decided to install drivers from the box, booted with my R7 250. Installed the drivers and switched card. This time the card reaches Windows 8.1 but the screen goes black once drivers loaded. |

QUOTE(goldfries @ Jun 30 2015, 01:41 AM) Yeah right, I lost so much time because of the R9 390X and R9 390. Black screen issue is not something new for Hawaii, my prime suspect for it is the memory controller because for some odd reason it's very sensitive to core voltage. My previous MSI TwinFrozr 290 gave me headache where I can't even undervolt more than 12mV without it getting black screened, my current 290X is more stable, undervolt 37mV no problem at all (both at it's factory clockspeed). On 390/X where they boosted the memory by 1GHz more than 290/X it's not going to be pretty. When I overclocked my card to 390X speeds, some time it worked with 38mV voltage increase, some other time it black screened and need 50mV to be stable.Fury X and R7 370 no issues, straight forward working all the way. No hiccups. |

Edit: In case if you guys want to know, the beta VBIOS update from Sapphire disables the VRAM powertune functionality(only two vram power states) as well increasing a little bit voltage to GPU core and VRAM. GPU powertune is retained. In ASUS vbios though.......asus decided to disable powertune functionality for both gpu core and VRAM in addition to slight increase in voltage for gpu + vram. AMD actually knows about this issue, which is why the driver automatically load the "fix" once it is installed. But how the hell people install the driver if they can't get pass the black screen in first place. Not many know how to enable integrated GPU in order to install the discrete gpu driver. Those with AMD FX processors are screwed because the fx series doesnt have IGPU. This post has been edited by JohnLai: Jun 30 2015, 11:18 AM |

Now I can run my card at 1100Mhz core and 1500Mhz memory with only +31mV With the newer Sapphire BIOS for the tri-X 290, opening the Afterburner will reports that the voltage auto configured to +25mV. QUOTE(terradrive @ Jun 30 2015, 11:22 AM) I had a blackscreen issue too, turns out the problem is my PSU, changed to seasonic and never blackscreened anymore. Unclean power from PSU? The VRMs at the GPU ought to filter its out........ Now I can run my card at 1100Mhz core and 1500Mhz memory with only +31mV With the newer Sapphire BIOS for the tri-X 290, opening the Afterburner will reports that the voltage auto configured to +25mV. In any case, this is AMD fault in the first place. AMD doesnt even officially 'recognize' the issue for the 290x and 290 is related to voltage issue. AMD did acknowledge the issue by claiming it is fixable by driver and yes, it did....... The core problem is the VRAM controller and GPU core voltages stored at vbios. Yet, AMD still insist on saying 390x/390 isnt a rebrand while mentioning the stuff on new power management µarchitecture. At least for 390x/390 series, amd is trying to push the updated new power management µarchitecture vbios to AIBs. As I said, too bad some AIBs 'don't get the memo' |

For Hawaii, memory voltage is tied/related to core voltage. My card is stable at 1030/1250 stock clock with -67mV but the moment i increase the memory clock to >1300mhz, i get instant black screen. If i used the card default +13mV, i have no trouble increasing the memory to 1550mhz. |
