upcoming Frostbyte engine seems to put both AMD and Nvidia on par with each other

I think they so busy and only have time to optimize GM200 cards right now.

on the other hand, its nice to see the investment that is the Hawaii cards, still strong after all these years.

Pity the same can't be said for the 780Ti

Good for consumer but not really good for AMD imo.

Take this with grain of salt since it's a multiplayer bench so there's a lot of variables but interesting number to be honest.

I'm more impressed with the consistency of the 980 Ti around the range of CPU clock speed.
Seems like fury has higher dependency on CPU clock-speed to gain fps. Then again fps is already in the 3 digit range, kinda pointless for normal 60Hz panels.
*
There is no secret that Nvidia driver is well multi-threaded and Maxwell shallow pipelines minimized CPU overhead.

PowerColor Devil 13 Dual Core R9-390 review from HARDOCP.

QUOTE
Now let's bring it back around to price because price is going to be the deciding factor for many people's ability to buy the PowerColor Devil 13 Dual Core R9 390. The PowerColor Devil 13 Dual Core R9 390 is $800. That is expensive for this being two AMD Radeon R9 390 GPUs with slower memory. It is too bad PowerColor wasn't able to make this out to be two R9 390X GPUs at the same price; that would have been a killer deal. But being a "halo product" with low production numbers, a price premium is expected.

At $800 PowerColor Devil 13 Dual Core R9 390 competes with two AMD Radeon R9 390X video cards in CrossFire. If you can get R9 390X CrossFire at the same price, and you have the room for two video cards, honestly this is the smartest way to go. There might be a saving grace if the PowerColor Devil 13 Dual Core R9 390 overclocks well, it does have the potential to at least perform as well as R9 390X CrossFire through overclocking.

It would be nice to have a more stripped down version of the PowerColor Devil 13 Dual Core R9 390. In that we mean subtract the bonus deluxe package, subtract the included $149 mouse and instead knock off $100 from this video cards price. If PowerColor would provide a stripped down version for $100 less, or more, then the PowerColor Devil 13 Dual Core R9 390 would be the killer deal of a video card. It is too bad such a beast doesn't exist because there is a lot of potential there to be had.

That said the PowerColor Devil 13 Dual Core R9 390 does sit in its own category. It is a single video card with dual-GPUs on board. It also has the unique ability of being able to CrossFire with another PowerColor Devil 13 Dual Core R9 390 for Quad-GPU R9 390 performance, which is much easier to do with two video cards versus four. That is a configuration possibility worth keeping in mind for those that can afford such things. We know AMD hardware scales well with XDMA, we just aren't sure how the drivers would handle Quad-GPUs.

PowerColor has built a fun and unique video card with the PowerColor Devil 13 Dual Core R9 390 that certainly fills a specific certain niche. If this video card appeals to you it is available and in-stock. Obviously, this Devil 13 R9 is not for everyone, however it is a great piece of engineering from PowerColor and that should be commended. The PowerColor Devil 13 Dual Core R9 390 offers a unique option for those looking for something different and capable for 4K gaming. Certainly this video card would be much more desirable if AMD got its act together when it comes to CrossFire driver and profile performance.

If you really going to get for the game, the 970 will be better and cheaper imo.

Also Phoronix founds out that under Linux - nVidia GPUs outperform AMD GPUs by quite a margin... hmm.gif

I don't really use Linux on desktops, but switchable nVidia graphics in Linux has been a mess for me (AMD is no better at this FYI icon_idea.gif )...  sweat.gif

AMD's OpenGL performance in Linux have been abysmal for the longest time and that's not going to change at least until the release of Vulkan.

Software, OpenGL barely able to utilize my GPU plus CPU utilization when gaming is bad in Linux and I'm sure AMD won't do anything to improve it since OpenGL will become obsolete in gaming industry when Vulkan hit the masses.

maybe i'll just scurry around for a used R9 290X hmm.gif

The only worthy upgrade for that is the Fury/FuryX/980Ti imo. Can consider 980 if you can find a used one with beast overclock.
