yeah me too.
what's the other cons for N80?
Really need to know before i buy it smile.gif

and will the slider became loose later on?
kind of afraid on that one tongue.gif
*
If it involved moving parts, like the slider, of cause it will be loose over the time...you just have to live with that or NOT choose a slider form factor phone...as easy as that...anyhow, i manage to solve the loose sliding on N80, check the 1st post for the tips... smile.gif

haiz.. really thinking of getting 1 N80.. but i see that trade zone there got so many ppl selling off their n80 i also scare scare wan to buy.. dunno whats the prob of the phone...but most of them is selling silver colour n80.. i more prefer black.. btw.. i think the price of n80 will drop loh.. hmm
*
Well...i am using the N80 for quite some time now an frankly i think it is a great phone...if you are an average joe, just like me, who do some phone calls, some sms & mms, some internet browsing, some documents viewing, some music listening, some video watching....i do not see why and cannot find a reason to say N80 is not a good phone...but end of the day, it all comes to what the user wants and thinks....personally for me, it is a great phone!

As for waiting for the price to drop thing....i have been in the waiting game and it is really sucks...when the price for N80 is dropped, you will have something more advance in the market, that you will probably have your eyes on....unless you can say that N80 will ultimately still be your target after a year or so, i do not encourage the waiting for price drop...just my opinion though...

Yeah, with N80 you can choose to save the video file as MP4 or 3GP...of cause the MP4 video quality will be better...

bought the 'Mobile World' magazine yesterday,
and it's written there that N80 doesn't have 3G.
Is this true?
*weird*
*
Haih...i am a N80 user, and i m using 3G connection everyday...even the phone itself got display 3G signal....but u can choose to believe a magazine, or choose to believe a N80 user, which in this case is me smile.gif

Download the SMS Accelerator by Nokia for N80, it really speeds up the SMS and MMS sending...i've tried it and it is really good.

Click Here! to find the software n other various N80 softwares.

hie guys... n80 user here...just decided to come to lyn to check out the n80 scene here ;P...

why isnt anyone talking about software???
imho...n80 is a good phone...can do alot with it...edit word docs, excel etc with office suite...
use it to organise my life...a pocket pc would be better but cant complain for the price i paid for my unit plus it has 3g...
so far i convert my vids and movies to mp4 coz playback is smooth and good ... (download super video converter from erightsoft.com for free)

im still trying to get smart movie and divx player to play avi files properly, it lags and goes out of sync alot and the quality sucks...anyone has experience converting movies to avi and playing it on smart movie or divx player ?? (divx player is free btw)

another thing is ive read alot about surfing the net with the n80 browser where there is a little map of the whole page and then there is the cursor and stuff where they say is like the real internet browsing experience on a phone..but i dont know how to use any of them..all i get is standard web browsing where the page is downsized to fit the phones screen...any hints guys??

keep this thread informative ppl...

if i'm not wrong the N80 have 2 web browser, one for WAP and the other for surfing the full website pages one. Refering to my N93 i have 2, both is globe icon but name is different, for WAP it's call "services" for full html website one is called "web"
*
Yeah, u must be careful when you choose the browsing application in N80. For WAP, u will need to use the "Services", for full HTML website, use the "Web" instead.

May i know what is firmware?  Is it the OS or is it related to OS?  Whats the benefit of updating firmware and if i update firmware at Nokia SC will warranthy void?
*
Firmware is your phone OS. Every new firmware fixed some bugs that you found on the older firmware and as a result when u update your firmware, you get a more bugs-free phone (not to say totally bugs-free). For example, older firmware has the problem of "out of memory" when you r browsing, and the new firmware fixed this problem and you will not have the "out of memory" issue anymore when you r browsing. Updating your original Nokia phone firmware at authorized Nokia Service Center will not void the warranty, and it is free of charge too if your phone is still under warranty. Hope this clear your mind smile.gif

FOTA (Firmware Over The Air)...means starting from firmware V4 on wards, you can upgrade your firmware without going to the service center...ain't that nice? rclxms.gif For more info, do some Googling yourself and i am sure you can find tons of information smile.gif

I've just updated my phone firmware using the updater tool, but i got it from Nokia Asia... I guess it's the same as the nokia uk version above...

Anyways, it was a pretty easy thing to do.... not as time consuming compared to the 2hr wait u gotta endure if upgrading at nokia's service centres...

All i had to do was:
1. download the Nokia Software Updater program (15.9mb)
2. install the program
3. backup phone memory into memory card
4. connect phone via usb
5. update the firmware..... (The Nokia Software Updater would detect the phone model, and then download the latest firmware available... The firmware for nokia n80  is 72mb.. this took less than 15mins... and then it proceeded to install the firmware, which took about another 5-10mins)
6. restore phone memory from memory card to phone

easy easy!!... haha...

For jwai85's question #4, just read the Phone Update FAQ from nokia's support website carefully and follow the instructions given while updating the firmware... basically the most important thing to do is backup ur phone memory, and don't disconnect/switch off the phone while updating the firmware.... Its advisable that ur phone is fully charged before updating the firmware, but mine wasn't... heheh... still had about 5/6 bars so i just proceeded... updating the firmware consumed about 1 bar....

Now my phone's firmware is
v4.0623.0.41
26-07-2006
rm-92
nokia n80 (11)

It's only necessary to download the Nokia Software Updater once, so for future updates just connect the phone and the program will download the latest firmware..
