if you on a budget can consider Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens.. one of the cheapest around.. better go with lens rather than a converter..

if u really on budget, then a converter is ur choice, but u get a lot of distortion and soft at the edge(or even middle) of the picture,u loss a lot of image quality, mayb can help 'abit' with post processing sharpening. The angle of view gained may not justify the image quality you lost(depend on what lens u using). even the converter rated 0.5x , u may thought a 50mm will converted to 25mm,but practically,u will only have around 35-45mm equivalent field of view,i tested with a 50mm lens fitted with 0.5x converter and another 18-55kit lens,i zoom the kit lens until the field of view is similar to the 0.5x wide converted 50mm ,guess what, the zoom scale is written around 35mm,which is much less than 0.5x.
as mentioned by kayfx, efs 10-18 stm is the cheapest ultra wide lens for ur 1000d,around rm700-800 for used model and quite sharp though. While the cheapest wide converted cost u 100bucks. so i consider price is 8x difference. currently using tokina 11-16,quality is superb and i wont go back to converter anymore. but you wont go wrong with either one wallet wise-go for converter, the thing that converter give you is worth ur rm100,but nothing more, nothing less image quality wise-go for ultra wide lens, insignificant soft at the corner.converter cant give u such a wide view. |

QUOTE(chokia @ Jun 24 2015, 08:40 AM) That is correct, 16 mm will yield you a viewing angle of 83 degreeWhat you want is actually UWA ultra wide angle For APS-C any lens shorter than 15 mm is considered ultra wide angle. For 35 mm film or full-frame sensor any lens shorter than 24 mm For 6x4.5 cm any lens shorter than 41 mm For 6x6 cm and 6x7 cm any lens shorter than 56 mm *from wiki |

Get a proper wide angle lens, with good care you can still sell it as 2nd hand and lose little money when you don't want it anymore.
But if you get a converter, good luck selling it (will happen really soon as the quality is simply so bad for cheap ones) so basically you lose equal amount of money with a proper lens and a cheap converter. |

a big no-no for the converter. the output is horrible.
if you are planning to shoot landscape, try using panorama technique. its free, but need more editing works This post has been edited by kalakatu: Aug 28 2015, 07:05 PM |
