Does anyone heard about philippines football?? i think everyone will think about they play dirty because they have many import players from europe if you have watch suzuki cup before, but it's not.. the palyers are all filipino, because they have a filipino parents. 40 years ago, many filipino decided to work abroad because of the corruption era of president marcos in philippines. many of them work abroad and live in europe and america. since philippines is a country that allow dual nationality in asia, so according to fifa rules, philippines never use naturalization or import players, they are all consider as filipino citizens. This is because they have at least one of their parent is filipino or having filipino nationality.. So they have the right to get philippines nationality. For example, raheem sterling, he born in jamaica to both jamaican parents and immigrated to united kingdom.. After they live in uk for few years, they have the right to get uk nationality.. So he is a naturalization or import player for england national football team.

philippines national football team, nickname 'Azkals', means street dog in tagalog, is the first asia national football team in history, founded in 1907, but this team never qualify to play in olympic, world cup and asia cup

actually philippines has very good history in 1910 era, they won the gold medal in far east games, the games which take part by 3 countries, philippines, rep of china and japan, they also won 15-2 against japan in 1917, which is their biggest win record in history.
barcelona legend, Paulino Alcantara is also a filipino, his 200 goals was later broke by messi

he born in 1896 in philippines to spanish militiary father and filipino mother, because philippines was colonized by spain during that time, his father is a spanish militiary officer in philippines. during 1890, spanish bring in the football to philippines and people in philippines love football very much as it is their number one sport during that time.
but in 1898, spain started a war against usa but spain lost in the war and finally usa colonized the philippines since 1898, alcantara moved back to barcelona after 1898 but he back to philippines and played for the team in 1917, scored a goal in the match of 15-2 won against japan. but after that he left philippines and joined spain national team and catalonia.
after philippines colonized by usa, american bring in basketball to philippines and filipino started to forget about football, because they more prefer to play basketball.
philippines is a very successful asian team in asia basketball history, 5 times champion in asia cup, 4 times champion in asian games, played 7 times in olympics and played 5 times in world cup, they are the only asian team which won the first 3 places in basketball world cup (won 1954 world cup 3rd place)
in 2014, philippines qualified to play in basketball world cup, althought they were knocked out in group stage, but they having a very satisfied results against all the world class team.

philippines government started to pay attention to football since 2000, (why they pay attention? maybe because of usa makes a very good result in 2002 world cup and spain won 2008 european cup)
they started to call back the oversea players in 2002. in 2007, philippines dropped into 195 in fifa ranking, which is lowest ever in history, but after 2008, they qualified to play in suzuki cup and challenge cup all the times. many oversea players started to join this team in 2008, after they make a historical result in 2010 suzuki cup(qualified for semi final for the first time), many more players to come and join in 2011. during november 2011, philippines invited LA galaxy for a friendly match
phil younghusband admitted that he is so lucky to play with his favourite idol, david beckham
Attached Image Attached Image Attached Image

Those players who play for a club in europe cannot call back to play for suzuki cup because suzuki cup normally on december, it is not in fifa calendar so thats why the team still not enough to fight against thailand, vietnam and malaysia to win suzuki cup.. they almost qualify for 2015 asia cup but they lost to palestine in challenge cup final last year. but they can call all the players back to play in wc qualifier because it's international match day, some people said now it's the strongest ever philippines squad in history.

philippines government also built a new world class football stadium for the team:
Bulacan staidum, 20km away from manila, the team just played in here last week for world cup qualifying

You are right, they are just a basketball nation before, but since 2008, a lot of European players who having a filipino parent to join the team, because they eligible to play for philippines
I have a lot of friends from philippines, because of their national football team making upset in 2010 suzuki cup, now football already start to become their national sport, all these european players help a lot

wow. good for them. here in malaysia we have players play in europe cry want to go back home because girlfriend having scandal with another man. damn stupid

malaysia football is hopeless. hmm. we are not that bad at youth level. in fact we are quite strong even against europe youth club team. but moving forward, it looks like the player lose the essence of being a true footballer.

as long as FAM and its leadership is there, malaysia football will never improve.
