A few people i've hear inclusive of myself have gone through numerous problems with BF2142, and the loss of hair afterwards. Well, might as we start a thread out dedicated to solving technical issues associated with this Successor to Windows ME Game. Well i hope the mods pin it up so this thread can get more exposure and maybe help a few dudes push in some game play time.

This thread will generally compile problems and solution, which should be submitted in a simple and easy to read format as per the below for further ease of reference by our esteemed members, TKers and n00bs alike.

Diagnosis : One of the easiest ways to get a diagnosis is to use the system log. Go into the Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Events Viewer -> System. And then look for log entries with the Exclaimation mark beside them. Easy right?

[PROBLEM]
Problem : eg; Giant Crabs in BF2142
Location : eg; Verdun
Time : eg; While I was High last night
Ping : eg; 100ms
Setup : eg; Pentium MMX.......
Likely Source : eg; Stupid DICE programmers, EA.
Added Notes : The crab just CAME!
Likely Fix : Find it's weak spot and hit for massive damage

[SOLUTION]
Problem : eg; EA people hate me (post 1337)
Solution : Hate them back

I plan to update the thread's first post with the above and if everyone with the same problems could chip in abit, heck we could send this shit to EA and get them to fix it. Plus in the mean time we could come up with fixes of our own.

Likely Source : Lankey Drivers or Game itself
Added Note : Gets in the way of shooting people

[SOLUTION]
Problem : the above
Solution : None, but reduction of such anomalies is possible by upgrading to the Catalyst 6.10 Drivers. People also report that lowering the resolution helps, but i'm still not sure.

[PROBLEM]
Problem : Screeching sound, PC hangs
Location : Random
Time : Random
Ping : Random
Setup : AMD Athlon X2 with X1800XT 512mb with Catalyst 6.10 and Audigy2ZS
Likely Source : Game itself
Added Note : NA

[SOLUTION]
Problem : The above
Solution : Go into DXDIAG, lower sound hardware acceleration to BASIC. Or use Software sound in the BF2142 options, or buy an XFI.

So i hope you guys keep posting so we can all help each other out. Even if you have a solution to a simple and maybe meaningless bug, just put it here.

Unsure? Because a forumers asked me about CTD's.. I think it was Yoshuka, and I said no, doesn't happen to me. But recently it happened a 1-2 times.

Added Note : After long duration of gameplay, the game slows down dramaticly.. When exit to desktop.. It says virtual memory too low, or.. A hazard sign will be displayed at the system tray(which is low virtual mem).

Empire23's note : You probably need more memory since BF2142 uses around 750 megs of it

blah blah blah.
now i cannot alt-tab out of the game without it locking up.

same if i logout from my soldier acc and login again, just to get my new unlocks.
it locks up also.

was working fine before.

I guess u all needs a good system..as I have never encountered any stability problem as the above except thrice boing dc from the server since i first playing this online game. My system is Intem Pentium Dual Core 3G with dual slr xfx 7800GT.

Anyone using ATi cards can list your feedback and problems here. Last i checked, the Catalyst team do very well listen to user comments so the more you send them, the better.

co-op lan problem

game crashes after joining the game for few secs

old system but no prob when playing single player

How bout Multiplayer or Single Player, did the pc crashed too?
Have you updated your hardware driver? whats your pc specs?

hardware driver all new & the game works fine in multi & single player

but dunno why the com have problm with co-op mode

old spec:

pentium 4 2ghz (s 478)
512 mb ram
geforce fx 5900xt

play 2142 with the lowest possible settings but still work a treat xcept for the co-op mode

kinda waiting for dx10 cards to step into the market to upgrade the pc

new BF2142 patch just come out v1.05. Give it a try see if it solve the problem.

This is ridiculous.

I have been trying to connect to EA Master Server for AGES and I keep getting the "Server Timed Out" Error. What's the problem here?

My internet connection is working fine and I'm all patched up till 1.06.

I can login just fine @1.50pm, maybe EA doing some login server maintenance that time?

i need help. when i patch, it sez Patching Failed.

i reinstalled and use the patch, still Failed.

what else can i do?

EDITED : found out it's a disk space issue. needs 1.3GB++ to patch successfully.

Try this:

1.Go to start
2.Click Run
3.Type C:\Program Files\Common Files
4.Find the "InstallShield" folder
5.Rename the folder to "InstallShieldOld"
6.Try patch again

this means it was solved, just by freeing some disk space for the patch to expand.

err... may i ask? it might be a dumb question but i want to ask to satisfy my feeling... what is the lowest requirement to play this game? i'm using 2.4 p4 with 512ddr and radeon 9600pro 256 but even with the lowest setting, it lag like hell..like 2 or 1 fps...have anyone encountered this before?

dunno about BF2142...but i used to use slightly lower specs for BF2 which uses the same engine...
amd2.4, 512mb, 9600 128mb...it was fully playable at low settings...

got similiar specs like yours but i got more ram stick to 16 players map for optimal play, 32 gonna be lag abit as long there's no heavy action going on around you. 64 players & titan map if you enjoy watching slide show

do any of you know how to run BF2142 withought the DVD for the new patch, its really anoying that I have to install DVD-rom when ever I play this game.

1. Install Alcohol 100%
2. Put the DVD in the DVD drive.
3. With Alcohol%, burn the whole DVD and save it in your hard drive (BF2142 DVD.mdf)
4. Install Daemon Tools.
5. Disable the DVD drive (Control Panel/System/)
6. Umount BF2142 DVD.mdf with Daemon.

hey, got problem with sound....
all music sound, etc work fine except speech/voice... it's lag..
i'm using extigy, is it not supported? i'm using lowest quality sound still same lolz

Happens to me sometime, seems to be related to too little memory being available. Close all unneeded programs, even MSN and all, and you should be ok.

newbie here ....can anyone teach me how to cuztomiz weapon in single player mode..? some weapon unlocked but cant be select or use...or single mode only can play with default weapon?

u must login into EA Master Server in order to use those unlocks in single player...correct me if im wrong....

How to fix the directx9 problem?? i got an error on d3d9.dll file.... after download from internet and extract got other problem come out...

again... like bf2.. still dont have the widescreen setting. what is it with EA?? they dint support widescreen is it??

Now the new problem is when i click to join the server i been kick out from the game.

I close all the program before i start the game but the problem still occur. Try to overclock CPU by 5% and the GC by 6% also wont help.

Really got me to the dead end how to play online. Before I buy the ehem cd and play single player don't had that problem at all.

Any suggestion to fix this?

Fix it by reinstalling windows 5 times. I download the latest directx also cannot install...

GC driver up to date?
try lowering the video option all the way down,reduce resolution and try joining any game server see if the problem persist or not.

some says disable EAX support and delete* your cache file fix the crashes.

yeah.. EAX makes the TITAN Exploding effect like sh*t.

The game doesn't appear correctly with graphics glitches. For example, sometimes the trees, or buildings (sometimes even the sky) has no texture mapped on it just yellow polygons and it lags. And usually when that happens the menu just became grey/white screen (can still see the text when it is grey). This only happens on occasion, rarely but it is still annoying

side note: i played support but i cant seem to hit the guy like 10 metres away from me until my gun overheated, WTF!

try set to medium setting..that should be worked

but play online on high setting will lag ur pc..

can't log into ea authentication server.
what gives?

I'm getting this weird problem with my 2142.
It crash the whole system and make it restart everytime I try to start the game after joining any server.
Try uninstalled and reinstalled the game, patch to v1.1, and update punkbuster. Still, samething happen.
What the heck is wrong with it??? Anyone hv experience the same error?

what do u mean crash? memory runtime error..? or getting to low memory..?

I didnt received any error message at all. When i click on the in-game join button. My screen went blank and the whole system restarted.

been kicked out many servers due to punkbuster issue. and the beautiful thing is i've already updated it and still get kicked. but most of the time i get connected with no issues at all.

Solution : Restart PC, if it repeats, restart again. (Its not another process interfering either. I tried ending all non-critical processes and it still happens.)

if you think its a memory leak, then check your ram properly.
bf games are very sensitive to ram, when it would work fine in other games.

hi everyone, greetings from Penang..im new here to the forums & been playing 2142 for just over a couple of months..

anyways as per Rusty Nail's prob, mine is a little different, i start a round well, usually i ping bout 22-25ms on msian 2142 or spore fragnetics servers & after that when the round end, & a new round starts, my ping shoots up to 700ms..then kena kick by PB. anyone got this lately?

Is ur problem always happen? hav u tried changing ur IP address to a better n lower ping(the IP quality is differ from other)..?




My Philosophy is "Dont fix thing that aint broken.."<-- do i mention it correctly..? ie: Updating PB, my PB nvr causes me any problem, till then i nvr touch it or update it..

thanks knight! it doesnt always happen, juz recently. wat can we expect from our "reliable" ISP.. i used to log off & on to change IP address, is there a better/easier way to do it as im quite noobish in some areas : ) yeah good philosophy there!

er..i don know this can help u or not but this is the way to change ur IP address manually..

1.Go to "Control Panel"
2.Click "Network Connection"
3.Right Click "Local Area Connection"
4.Click "Properties"
5.See the place where it say "This connection uses the following items:" And choose "Internet Protocol" and click "Properties".
6.When u come into "Internet Protocol Properties", choose "use the following IP address"

Regarding this setting it depend on your ROUTER...So good luck...Hope i can help you....

By the way this is 2142 tech..I think i'm off track already..better shhh later ADMIN scold me....
