This scenario reminds me of ocbc titanium. 5% gone, left 1 % via TPs. Then in the future, 1st RM1k spending get 1% and thereafter 0.1% cry.gif

As I have mentioned, due to BNM Credit card framework, AMEX interchange fee will drop to 1% from 3% previously from 01 July. That is, the bank income from AMEX card trnx will drop 3 fold. So naturally , it is true that BNM framework did affect us card users .

Wondering how many will terminate their card come August 1st and if many terminate their card, will Maybank feel the pinch? hmm.gif
*
I'd say quite a lot will terminate, esp those earning below 36k pa, who is subjected to the two issuer ruling , who wants to maximize return from their 2 cards, now that this card will not be able to fulfill that.

Well if you look at it this way, if 10000 people quit, and this 10000 people usually get cash back of RM600/year, Maybank is "getting profit" of RM6,000,000/year.
*
They won't be able to "profit" those money though. All these while they charge AMEX merchant 3% of their transaction. And from July, this figure will drop to 1%. That 2% lost is astronomical! Imagine the value of AMEX transactions per day in Malaysia. How much is it worth? I am sure it is millions .

But under their T&C as at 9.58AM, it still says pure weekend cash back. Didn't mentioned about for dining only.

Like I mentioned MBB2Cards are still worth keeping unless your annual salary is 36k and below because you can only keep two issuing banks' cards.
MBB is still having the most promo comparing to other banks.
*
For the time being, I'd suggest not to apply or cancel any cards. Other issuer might follow suit and cut benefit. It is best to wait for the situation to settle down first .

Oh! My insider news is they are having second thoughts and any decision will be made later, probably at the last minute. Anyway it is better for Maybank to make an official announcement , so that we can hope for the best.

Good news for those who wait!
*
I was told that they are still considering whether to :

1) Proceed with the implementation without further changes.
2) To delay the implementation to a later date.
3) To offer an additional category in addition to dining for cashback, possibly petrol or grocery!

"Which category besides dining that you would like Maybank to consider for weekend 5% rebate?"

1. Online payment
2. Petrol
3. Groceries
4. Departmental
*
I have to say this ... If CIMB can do this, so can you Maybank! I'm on for Online payment !

for me it would be departmental. as far as i know, no other credit cards is offering rebate for that. and perhaps utilities too

petrol, groceries and online payment can be replaced with other cards.
*
In fact there is one for department stores. Introducing Diners Club Premier Card.
