Oh no, I just received my card this month. Can I cancel it by August 2015?

Wondering how many will terminate their card come August 1st and if many terminate their card, will Maybank feel the pinch?

maybank will still promote their card when u apply for their housing loan. and say it is compulsory. 

the reason they only maintain 5% on dining is because this category has less abuse. petrol/bills/grocery/departmental all can control exact amount to pay.

But just wondering why did they removed it? Well I just got the card last month, if I cancel after august, will I be penalized? Thanks.

I asked because to get cashback from HL Wise and Watami, is a bit complicated. Got some terms and conditions.

Look at it this way. If you spend MAX RM1000/card, after that use another card and you always pay on time, how is Maybank going to earn?

Good news, I just checked today and even the pop-up window is no longer showing 5% for dining only.

I just called Maybank.. They said the 5% cashback (for American Express credit card) will still be available after 1st Aug 2015.

Actually happened about 3-4 years back, I have actually cancelled the card with ABC bank less than 6 months ago but before CNY that year , I 'si fatt han' logged in into my online banking to see . SHOCKED to see an outstanding of RM100K . All the transactions were for a bogus computer company, and the mailing add was for an address in Cheras, To cut story short, police reports ensued and all the dingdongs with ABC bank and BNM, they made investigation (there is this house in Cheras but no occupant) and the fact I had cancel the card less than 6 months (no re-issue within 6 months I guess) etc, I finally got my case settled within a few 'sleepless' months.
Is advisable to go BNM to print out your CCRIS report every now and then, better be safe than sorry

Last time when I terminate a card, just a phone call and they say they will settle everything.
No black and white after that, a bit scare now.

Can we request for some formal letter actually?

still prefer instant cash instead of points but since beggars cant be chooser. so just accept it.

btw,y nobody recommended hsbc since grocery and petrol still got 3% on weekend.

so now,
1. HLB but with tnc of 10swipe of RM50
2. UOB one at least got 5% on petrol on weekend
3. UOBvox for online
4. watami if u can spend more than 3k in each quater to get 3%
5. CIMB cr for 2% petrol and 5% online.
6. HLB essestial, OCBC ge for 1% cb
7. if got 100k per annum then get PB VS

currently i only have 2 of the above. getting watami.
