When an employee gives 24 hours short notice resignation, should we treat as proper resignation or treat it as abscondment? Usually when an employee decides to resign from the company, he/she should be giving sufficient notice period (eg: weeks, months). However if an employee throws in a resignation letter and left the company the next day, does it really work out this way? Besides if company doesn't have any policies stating 24 hours short notice resignation, how shall we treat this kinda situation? Any HR experts/bosses mind to share your expertise on this matter? Thanks!

QUOTE(nargcore @ Jun 18 2015, 03:08 PM) employer accept =proper resignation employer dont accept = abscondment staff must give notice according to the appointment letter. so meaning employee has no say in termination even he/she got submit resignation letter for 24 hours short notice? QUOTE(MeToo @ Jun 18 2015, 03:24 PM) What does the contract says? Contract doesn't mention 24 hours short notice... either employer / employee serves certain period of notice upon resignation or payment salary in lieu according to the notice period... QUOTE(MeToo @ Jun 18 2015, 03:31 PM) I know the contract doesnt say 24 hr notice. What is the notice period stated in the contract? 1 MOnth? 3 month? 48 hrs? Any notice have to be done in accordance with the contract, failure to do so will be subject to penalty. Also, there is no such thing as "no resignation", he just have to pay the penalty in lieu of the notice yea its 1 month notice period or 1 month salary in lieu.. does it mean this 24 hours short notice thing is just made up by the employee yes? even if he/she mention 24 hours short notice in the letter, the employer has the right not to accept such letter?

QUOTE(MeToo @ Jun 18 2015, 04:26 PM) 1. There is NO SUCH THING as 24 hrs short notice. 2. He give u notice, anything LESS then 1 month (per contract) the employee has to PAY the employer the difference. vice versa. 3. If employee gives 24 hrs notice, employer cannot reject, IF the employee willing to pay the difference (see #2) Thank you very much for the clarification..
