hey guys....
sad news. i try to summarise it. this is the articles published in the The Edge page 14.

MNP likely to miss August deadline.

it mention that One party has indicated some difficulties in their migration to the new system.

btw, Talian Gerak Alih Sdn Bhd is the clearing-house for the implementation of MNP.

"There is also talk in the market that one particular operator is 'dragging its feet" on getting itself ready for MNP for fear of competition" quoted from one of the paragraph.

Maxis CEO Jon Eddy Abdullah in the statement state:"Maxis will be ready as directed by the MCMC.

Digi.Com spokesperson says they are ready to migrate its networks to the MNP platform by August.

Celcom CEO Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly says the company is doing all it can to introduce the service. "We are in full support of MNP and are making sure all systems are in place (for the MNP service launch), including for all MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) partners that have been appointed and are soon to be announced," say Shazalli.
However, he did not confirm if Celcom would be ready by end-August.

lastly, sources say MCMC is determined to have its targeted nationwide MNP rollout by year-end, if not by end of next month.

ps: i cant find the article online, so for details, go flip The Edge this week, page 14.

18-08-2008: Mobile numbers to be in 11 digits

Email us your feedback at fd@bizedge.com

KUALA LUMPUR: Mobile phone users may soon find themselves having to deal with an additional digit at the end of their numbers after the implementation of mobile number portability (MNP), which is slated for implementation later this year.

According to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the new 3+8 structure will only take effect after the implementation of MNP, which allows mobile phone users to retain their phone number when they switch providers. A notice on the impending change of the number structure was issued in April.

Through an amendment to the Numbering and Electronic Addressing Plan which came into effect in April, the existing 3+7 structure of mobile phone numbers for cellular services such as those offered by Celcom, DiGi and Maxis will be expanded to 3+8.

The plan and its amendment fall under the jurisdiction of the MCMC.
