Why would I wanna settle for an action based ff7? Bring back atbs then we'll talk.

FF7 classic mode, with turn based system, no action, fully run on ATB. This got me really really hyped, for a moment I thought I won't be even playing this!

At first I was pretty hyped up with the announcement of the classic mode. Subsequently it was also stated that the battle system will be automated, despite running on ATBS. Perhaps more similar to ff12 instead? That is not even close to classic ff7.

Battle System: Classic Mode
Classic Mode can be activated by selecting “Classic” from the difficulty menu. In Classic Mode, party members will act automatically, with the ATB gauge filling up as they do so. In this mode, the player only needs to select which abilities, magic, and items they will use their ATB charges for. This brings the feel of the gameplay closer to the menu-based battles from the original Final Fantasy VII but with the amazing immersive graphics of the remake. It is also possible to revert to direct control at any time during Classic Mode by pushing buttons on the controller. Not exactly classic then, rather ff12 mode. |

I was pretty excited with the demo, having played ff7 on my PS1 2 decades ago. When they took away the ATBS, ff7 thus became an action rpg. The classic mode didn't help to relive the original gameplay either, being automated we don't even have to key in any commands at all.
I will be giving this one a miss, such a shame, because ff7 was the one that introduced me to Japanese rpg genre. |

QUOTE(Moogle Stiltzkin @ Mar 3 2020, 08:50 AM) shit.... i was worried about this. It is not "traditional classic turn based" where every action is dependent on a filled ATB. Trandional turn based, is once the ATB filled, u can choose what u want. Item, attack, magic, defend, limit break etc. Each character in your party will go through the same process. i at least heard there was a classic mode, but you are saying it isn't the same ? well... i'll give it a chance at least even if it may not be the same ATB fight mechanic that i liked By the way does anyone know how game saves can be moved from ps4 to ps5? or from ps4 to PC ?? how does that work. tbh i rather play FF7 Remake on pc, but it's gonna be a year long exclusive.... can't wait that long In ff7remake, classic means auto attack. The ATB will be filled on each attached, once full u can choose magic, ability etc. Buy the attack is auto, Cloud will go on a glamorous rampage hitting enemies with the water melon sword. U can choose not to control Barret, and he will also on auto attack mode till you activate his ATB. In the end, ff7remake is meant for younger generation gamers, where the hype of turn based rpg is already dead. We should have seen this coming with Ff15. At least we still got dragon quest and Persona. |

QUOTE(LegendLee @ Mar 6 2020, 10:14 AM) You have to buy every other episodes. I guess SE has found a way to bypass microtransaction dlc to benefit financially. From the looks of it, it won’t be a DLC, but a whole new game for every episode. You can transfer your save files. Kind of similar to dot hack rpg. It was made by the same game developers anyway before SE moved it in-house. Buying every episode might cost as much as the console. As the remake is just episode one and only the Midgar section. It will only cover. Bombing mission > Aerith church > honey bee inn > train graveyard > Shinra building. |

QUOTE(terryfu @ Mar 12 2020, 11:59 AM) Too fast pace for u? There's a charm in traditional turn based rpg. It started all the way from NES era, but the hype died down last gen in favour for more action. I don't mind the fast pace battle, but this ain't DMC, no Bayonetta, or GOW. This is a final fantasy, and when they changed the battle system from 15 onwards, ff7 dies with it. I get that it’s gonna be different and I felt like it was a button mashing fest throughout. Thank god for DQ, and Persona. |

QUOTE(Thrust @ Apr 5 2020, 11:37 AM) See that you're playing Tales of Vesperia. In my opinion, this is one of the best Tales game ever made. The characters, animation and music is just so nice. Simple and not as complex as later tales. Zesperia sucks real time, especially with the "leveling system" via weapons. I couldn't bring myself to finish the game. Loving tales since Phantasia era. |

QUOTE(deyamato @ Apr 14 2020, 06:54 AM) Ok, i just finished the game. 37 hours story mode and 10 hours side mission together VR mission. I would prefer a remake to the likes of Shadow of the Colossus. Graphical update without changing the game engine. Or resident evil. Its a remake game people shouldnt need to compare with original, if you want full game, wait for few years. If you want cheap, wait for a year when price drops. Imo, part 1 itself is already fully packed with a lot of stuff along with high quality graphics & insane environment work(pro with 4k). It is way enough to justify the price. Sometimes gamers forget the amount of work that game developers put into. I rather they come out as episodic with rich narrative & content instead of one shot rush job. Im selling mine soon if u intersted. Perhaps I'll play ff7 when they patch the battle system with turn based atbs. |

If dq11 can introduce a classic mode, I wonder why can't ff7 introduce traditional atbs.....
