Just to add on something to look out for before you walk around in BKK. It happened to me before.
Never get distracted by strangers by the roadside while you are heading towards your destination. They will tend to be very friendly, approach you and talk to you. They will tell you either its Buddha Festival, monks need to go out for lunch, Palace/temple is close today, etc., then, they will suggest you to go elsewhere first and come back later.
These are syndicates and they have their people everywhere, we bumped into 3 different person (they even got non Thais people) in 3 different temples that eventually will direct us to a jewelery/souvenir store. They will tell you that this 2 days they have major discount, showing you their receipts, etc etc.
It really spoiled our itenary and wasted alot of our times going around.
Also, try not to get rip off for the boat ride around the river, it's not that fantastic, we didn't really enjoy it for the price that we've paid.
