I managed to travel the whole of Thailand(on a low budget) in 5 different visits, at least most of the country where tourists will visit.
The places I have covered are Bangkok(for everything) & Chiang Mai(temples & culture) and Sukhothai(historical place), Kanchanaburi(River Kwai) , Chiang Rai & the northern towns like Mae Hong Son, Mae Salong, Mai Sai(dvds' paradise), Phuket and the north-eastern Isaan towns.
I have visited during their 2 most important festivals, Songkran(Water festival in April) & Loy...Loy...Krathong(as that song) usually in November.
I wish to let others know that it is surprisingly CHEAP to travel and stay in Thailand considering that some part of Bangkok, the shopping centres especially, are more HIGH CLASS than those even in Singapore and their transport system(Skytrain and subway) and buses are far more EFFICIENT & CHEAPER than those in Kuala Lumpur. Food is so much cheaper too. In Bangkok 7-11, bottled drinks of 1.5L is less than RM1.10 compared to KL's RM2.50 minimum.
If anyone wish to visit Thailand and wish to get any information, please post here or pm me, I will be most happy to help you on how to travel cheaply, how to travel on less than RM50(BKK) or RM30(CM) a day !! How to make best of your time, what not to miss, where to visit, where to get free wifi, what and where to buy cheaply(even pirated Levis Jeans !!).
Please note that I have travelled on a low budget, so please don't ask me questions like how much is a room in Four Seasons Hotel cost or how much will it cost to hire a limousine in Bangkok for a day
Anyway, I believe you only need help when you travel on a low budget or a tight schedule.
Thailand is not just about SEX !!
BTW, I seldom log in here and if you have any urgent questions, you can email to me at kktraveller70@yahoo.com

So sorry I sarted this thread and got too busy but I will come back next week to give more tips. Thanks to the others who are contributing, but now this one caught my attention, I add my opinion to this one.
Pantip can be given a miss unless you really wish to buy discs. This place is not as new as our Low Yat Plaza but easily 3 or 4 times the size and crowd. Blank discs are very very cheap. 100 pc set of dvds can be as low as 40 sen each, cds, 22 sens each. Blank dvd 9(dual layer) only around RM4 compared to KL selling for RM12 !!
The biggest attraction in Bangkok is of course, The Grand Palace & Sleeping Buddha & Emerald Buddha(all within few minutes walk) !! No tourists will miss it.
Near to Grand palace is National Museum(very big, interesting and well organised).
The Chao Phraya Express boat should not be missed. Take it after visiting Grand Palace and down to Chinatown. Just around RM1 plus and it's as good as a river cruise tour.
Siam Center is my favourite place. Not just people watching. The few shopping centers there are better than KL's Pavilion. Don't miss to go up to the cinema complex at Siam Paragon and World Trade just to take a look even if not for a movie. It's so damn grand !! Put Malaysia's ones to shame.
A good way to see the city in a day is buy a one day skytrain pass for unlimited rides. Just RM12 and you see a lot of BKK(note BKK is not like KL, it's easily 4 times bigger so if you like architectures and buildings, go Chatuchak market, Siam center, this is a good buy). I always enjoy their skytrain, it's always new, unlike our KL ones). Note, it don't go to Grand Palace and Chinatown(do this in another day).
I will be back for more
