Hi guys and gals,

I've not read the , other pages, yet, so please don't flame me if I made a repeated question here:

1. Is Air Asia now landing at Bangkok's new Airport. No longer Don muang izzit ?
2. To Zenix: Hi, can help describe the situation in Bangkok now ? Is it like still suspicious quiet since the military take over ? I've been out of the news world for some time, so not up to date on these matters.

Coz I plan a trip to Bangkok in end of April till May, not sure if its a good idea or not.

3. Anyone experienced Arnoma Hotel b4 ?
4. Any place good for shopping besides:

a. Central
b. Emporium
c. Paragon
d. Siam Center/ Discovery Center
e. MBK
f. Silom
g. Chatuchak
h. Suan Lum Night Bazaar

5. Shopping centers like LYP and Sim LIm(singapore) ?

Alrite, as for my experience, I've been there 3 times, 2 short trips(2D/1N, 3D/2N) and 1 long one(7D/6N). Stayed in Nai Lert Hotel(free)--2D, Holiday Inn(RM1.5K)--3D and Asia Bangkok(3K)--7D. I like Nai Lert but too far walking to BTS, Holiday Inn was very warm and friendly and far from BTS. Asia Bangkok is worst but can't complain for a 3 Star hotel. Asia Hotel is more for those who are into shopping from day till nite and use the hotel just for sleeping. Nai Lert (a.k.a. Hilton) and Holiday Inn are of coz 5 stars and quite good. Just far from BTS. Asia hotel is linked to BTS, very convenient.

As for travelling to shopping, BTS will be good enuf. For sight seeing, I don't know much, I'll leave to others to explain. I like to use the BTS to travel to all their shopping centers. Very convenient as most of them are linked with the BTS. But prepare some Ketotop for ur sore legs, or else go for a foot massage which is common in Bangkok.

Foodwise, I find its really really affordable. It's up to their living standard there. Like here when I eat sushi king, easily I spend RM35 and above. But there, ordering the similar dishes, less than RM 30.

The last time I was there was for 7D/6N and b4 Thaksin was over-thrown, to be exact, 1 year ago. Quite nice the atmosphere there. The ppl do treat us tourist like 'Datuk or Dato' but when u buy stuffs from them, of coz can't expect much discounts. The secret is, to learn up some thai language and if u can communicate with them, u can get much more further discounts, from 30-60% sometimes.

Anyway, for those with some answers to my questions above, all your help are greatly appreciated.

Thank you and warmest regards.

I heard of Patpong for its 'glamorous' night life. Similar to cowboy or Nana ? I thot I passed by Nana, looks pretty decent to me. Coz I was walking out from Nai Lert Hotel to the BTS and the BTS at Nano looks decent enough.

But I agree with johnnybravo, the ppl there r really more friendly although they still manage to make a living out of the stuffs that they sold to us. Imagine, a nicely printed T-shirt for gals, only cost RM 15. Will try to upload some pics if my gf allows. The printing is like those good quality ones and really nice too. Here, the pasar malam here really starts to sell like shopping center's price too.

What to do la, our living cost here is dam high compare to there. If it weren't for their language, I'm sure my gf would have migrated there. haha.

Hey Zenix, serious about the Turkish Bath ? I got a few friend planning to go there soon, mayb I trick them into getting themself into uncomfortable position. haha, they r kinda nerd type, so gonna b funny though.

Depending when u reach BKK, normally if u reach at Noon, on day 1 u only can do shopping! This is recommended if u hv 5 days in BKK:

Day 1: Shopping - take tuk-tuk - almost free of charge during day time..bcos they will bring u to Gems store /exp textile store and etc to collect free petrol vouchers! ask to drop u at Chinatown (It will take u almost 1.5 hour bcos u will need to stop somewhere! biggrin.gif ...Then probably to Pratunam textile market (Near Baiyoke sky tower) - at nite head to Sum Luan nite Market....try the gigantic open air hawker centre not match by any M'sian & SG standard!

Day 2: buy a full package tour to Floating market about 120KM away from BKK so expecting about 3-4hr of travelling to & fro. (Package about RM60-RM80 per pax inc lunch) - You can go there by Taxi but not advisable as what experienced by me. (Took a taxi charged me dirt cheap at 800bath for 3 to Danuek Saduek But once u reach at the boat terminal - I feel cheated! The boat operator wanted to charged me 2000bath for the trip!! OMG- atlast settled at 1500bath for the boat!! If I to take the package, It will only cost me RM180 for 3 person only instead of RM230!!) - The reason why the taxi willing to accept cheap rate bcos..as usual stop at gem factory for free petrol voucher!...He even drive me to Wat Po, Golden Palace & Pratunam market after the trip!! biggrin.gif

Day 3: Either decide package tour to Pataya Or Ayuthea or still in Bankok. If in BKK (as what I did)...hop in to MTR & go to the last station at the ferry terminal & buy visitor boat taxi passport at 100Bt each & enjoy unlimited stop along Chao phraya river.....My daughter enjoy this the most by hopping form une water taxi to another on each stop.....further shopping at Sum Luang

Day 4: Shopping days..MBK, Siam Paragon, Siam City (Should try the futuristic toilet!! - imagine TV inside the toilet....hmnnn thinking about it more modern than M'sia & SG! biggrin.gif ...Continue to Chinatown....The Chinaown is so huge that u feel Petaling street is nothing!...Too bad there is no nite market at Chinatown and all the lanes closed after 6PM....(Almost similar to Hatyai..but most of the goods are for wholesales market only although the cheapest in BKK!)

Day 5- Morning (if Saturday...take the underground train to Chatuchak Weekend market...if ur flight is in Evening.....

Wow, great guide provided here. Thanks stimix notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

I agree with the Siam Paragon phrase. That shopping experience is better than anything from Malaysia or Singapore, even better than Vivo City. But, the downside, pricey. Prepare loads of credit cards with full credits available to shop till ur bank begs u to stop. haha

But, I appreciate the extra guides to the floating market. Is that not the normal ones that the travel agencies arranges ? Coz, long long time ago i've been there once and it was like real boring, only a few boats, not like those advertised with lots of boats.

Another thing like to ask is, those taxi and tuk tuk that make the stops at the gem stores and textile shops, how do get them to charge so cheap ? Coz, I took once, from Silom to Siam(siam center), they cut my throat for 60bht. Ever since I took only the BTS, walk more but save alot since I bought the full day pass for 100bht only.

Yes read about this to b4 going to Bangkok. But so far no problem wth me as the tuk-tuk just tell me he will brings me to gem stores to collect petrol voucher & in return, I got a cheap ride on him.He even advised me to go one round inside the gem store & it is no obligation & he will be waiting for me outside for dropping me to my destination....fair what  hmm.gif  hmm.gif  biggrin.gif

The scam normally taken placed from those tourist spots....something like a guy approaching u...In my case, I approached the tuk-tuk....just like what mentioned in the above link which is extracted herewith:

"There are, in fact, two variations on the scam, but both involved you paying far too much for jewellery. The other one is where a tuk tuk driver simply takes you to a gem shop and tells you to look around for 10 minutes; he gets a free gas coupon for each customer he brings in. This is simple and obvious, and most people don't make a purchase in this case."

JUST be careful not to buy anything from those Gem store......The one I been even educating ppl on the real & a scam gem

Alrite, I'll take note on this matter. Mayb I try to drag my gf to complete the round as fast as possible to avoid her detecting anything that looks nice to her. haha.

How about those textile shops ?
Luring ? or really cheap stuffs ?
