anybody got any hotels to recommend? I will be in bangkok for a day, planning to go chatuchak and maybe MBK if got time... looking for hotel less than Rm 100...

Bangkok is easy to get around. The Skybus and MRT is great. So if you want cheap hotel you can stay away from town area. Near Nana station got a lot of 3 stars hotel and should price around RM100. Last time i stay in a Motel called charlie house only cost US15. It is located near Lumphini station.

I will b going this July too, my second trip to Bkk! Went there August last year. Btw i got my ticket during zero fare and it cost only 180++ per pax two ways. Last trip stay in a guest house just opposite suan lum night market. Not really safe for girl but very near to mrt station. Girls can try to stay places like wat panasonic stay but not nana area..( red light district and a lot of arabs ) The best place for shopping for cheap stuff is still chatucat. Going to explore other place this trip. Bkk is a nice and easy place to go around unlike kl.....

I know state of abyssmal personally and he's definitely not the kind of person who make up stories like those attention seekers running around at the Kopitiam section. There's no reason at all for him to tell anything but the truth from what he had experienced.

As for doubting him for the amount of cash that his family brings around, believe me, they do have the means.

May be abyssmal and family a bit high profile hmm.gif Anyway it is always advisable to look poor when u visit 3rd world country.. blush.gif

aiyerr suan lum, we missed it sad.gif

it was on our 1st night itinerary. supposingly go there after arrived at airport and checked-in to hotel. but due to some miscommunication with hotel arrangement, we arrived hotel late, then we all were amazed by the stalls outside pratunam (where our hotel is), ended up skipped suan lum, sigh.

read about you guys review, we even jotted a remark, must try the food at suan lum food court. didnt make it... leave it for next time la biggrin.gif

Aiyah Suan Lum is nothing compared to chat tu chat... The stage is there but i dun see it so interesting. Last trip stay just opposite to Suan Lum, end up going there every night. blush.gif

Just came back from Bangkok after 4 days stay. This is my second trip there. Stayed in Citin Pratunam Hotel. Well it is a relative new hotel, however it is located in a small lane ( not even got soi name ), so if you happen to go out and come back to hotel better bring the map of the hotel so that your taxi driver know how to find it.

Pratunam means water gate. So this area is previously a water gate to control flooding of Bangkok. So now since it had been reclaimed, some time people may blame the development of Pratunam area causing flood to Bangkok. Pratunam market houses many of clothes whole sellers. So you can get pretty good bargain here but you must buy in bulk meaning at least 3 of the same kind. Well it is really worth it as you can get decent t-shirt starting from 50 baths.

Overall Pratunam area is fine and clean thanks to HARDWORKING THAIS for keeping the street clean but dun expect it to be high class area even though Bayoukei Hotel is just next door. Went up to 83th floor and miss the 84th observation deck which closed by 10:30 pm. Well, you can very much view the whole Bangkok. If you want to save on the 250baths for observation deck entry (free one drink) you can go after 10:30pm and the ALL COURTEOUS THAIS hotel PRO will offer you to go up. (You cant find this working attitude in Malaysia and that is one of the element that makes everyone like Thailand so much and keep come back)

You needs good stamina to shop and believe me you can shop until your leg breaks. Just buy what you like and you would find it cheap when you back here.

There are 17 million people working in Bangkok and that is very much almost the population of whole Malaysia. Thais are hardworking lots and nice. Taxi use Toyota Altis because the government only allow 1.6 and above cars to be used as taxi as 1.5 cars like Vious are not powerful enough. ( Well Malaysia Proton ???) Toyota Altis are easily and cheap to maintained as compared to Honda. So if you would like to maintain your Altis cheaply, learn it from Bangkok Taxi Drivers.

That's it.

just curious, at what time does the Pratunam Market close?

because I will go to work by day & only have time to shop/walk around at night.. huhu

except for my first day of arrival..

Well it opens very early about 7pm local time. It should close about 7pm. However night time there is still some stall selling along the street but not much and the price is not as competitive i guess.

Hotel citin is new and clean and safe even lift with card security . Well you can book at airasia website even though like me you prefer to travel by Mas. May be other website got better offer but still trust airasia website better . The hotel is suitable for family and a lot of malaysian and indo chinese stay there during my stay . They provide free tut tut shutter to nearest bts. However you have to walk back may take 10 min slow walk. If you wish to go up to the pub at 83rd floor . Cheer:)

hi guys, i will be staying at citin pratunam next month for 3 nights.

Anyone know where is the nearest halal food can i find.

After googling 2 days i only find at MBK and Rachathewi BTS which is not near to my hotel.

Any suggestion? Thanks!

The breakfast offered in citin pratunam is vegetarian food. You will be out most of the time and may be you can buy some food on your way back to hotel at night. Yup Nana is the place for most halal food. biggrin.gif
