I've been a regular traveller to Bangkok. I have been there for about 6 times for the past 2 years. Most of the time, I go to Bangkok with a f friend who have been living there for 8 years, so I pretty much had a "local" tour guide with me.

For first-timers, visit the Grand Palace and the many Wats (temples) for the experience. I don't see a need to revisit these places unless for religious purposes.

Don't bother about the floating market. The original floating market is hours of drive away from the city. The floating market the cab drivers will usually bring you is a much smaller one, nothing worth to visit.

For day shopping, I'd suggest MBK. I'm not too big of a Jatujak fan myself as it's hot, stuffy and cramp. Plus, most of the stuff you can find in Jatujak can also be found in MBK. But for first-timers, as usual, Jatujak should be an experience.

I guess my favourite market to shop is the Lumphini/Suan Lum night market. Though the prices are not exactly cheap, but I really like the ambiance. Not very stuffy, plus they have very relaxed and laid back alfresco dining at the middle of the centre. Cheap beer to, a jug of Heineken is only RM17. For good and cheap food in Lumphini, try the food court behind it, one of the biggest food court I've ever been to.

Platinum mall is also a good mention if you are looking to buy souvenirs in bulk. The more you buy, the cheaper it gets. Forget Chid Lom, expensive merchandises.

For nightlife (this is where I spent most of my money on), don't ever, ever go Patpong. Stupid place. It is meant to rip off foreign tourists.

If you are looking for massages, *ahem* services or simply a good show, try Ratchada. This is where most of the locals go. Emporium, Emmanuele, Ceasars Palace etc. Good places to go.

For clubbing, you should NEVER EVER miss RCA. RCA is like Asian Heritage Row and they have SUPERB clubs. Try ROUTE 66, it's the most happening club in Bangkok now. RCA is filled with locals and you hardly see any foreigners, because this place is well hidden and it's where all the locals hang out, so yeah, it is THAT good.

If you have more money to spend and want to mingle with the upperclass locals and foreigners, try BedSupper Club in Sukhimvit Soi 11. It's like the Zouk of Malaysia.
