im flying to bangkok this saturday. DON CARE ANYMORE. failed to call air asia and don wan to call anymore.

riot is not fresh in bangkok n it happens all the time. the state of emergency is nothing but just give the army control over the crowd. just don go goverment building area and its only serious among protesters. i went there last time when there was a riot a couple years back. n its nothing around tourist areas.

so, i have decided to GO!!!

Just back from bangkok for the 4d3n holidays... ita all safe and peaceful. even more peace than Malaysia though was declared a state of emergency.

went there last weekend and back here last tuesday. if i hvt read the newspaper, i would not know there is a political unstable! i was walking alone late nite back to hotel (its far inside from the main road) n i don worry at all! if i walk in Malaysia late nite, even though just beside main road, i will worry whether got ppl rob me o not!!!!!!!!!!!!

tourists shop as usual n all places so crowded! there is no sign of tension o political unstable. i passed by the government building when i was on my way to the marble temple (which is nearby government house) and lucky buddha temple. all i saw is their camp and tats all. police was taking care of the traffic n they never attack any tourist o ppl passing by.

on the other hand, security checking was set up at the entrance to shopping malls and skytrain / BTS station. i was worried at the 1st place before i departed, however, i have no regret to travel to bangkok!!!!

u sure or not?
coz i already change my plan
tot wanna go grand palace but was told not safe n dont go
yes. very sure. someone told me not to visit grand palace as well. but when i reached there, its full of tourists. grand palace is a bit far from the government house. i visited bangkok when they declared a state of emergency n ur trip is still far away. so no need worry at all.

protest is very normal for thai ppl. nothing much. sweat.gif

im back from bangkok already...

stayed at First House Hotel which located at a small lane....but only 3mins walk to Platinum Fashion Mall, 5mins to Central World and Big C, about 10-15mins to Siam Paragon....so it is consider convenient....
if budget allowed...do consider Amari Watergate hotel just opposite Platinum Fashion Mall....no need to walk at a small lane to First House Hotel... tongue.gif

The entrance to Siam Ocean World is super expensive oh....990Bath per person...which includes 4D movie and ride at a glass boat.  sweat.gif
but enjoyed most in the ocean world is the time when the people feed the shark!!! All the sharks surrounding them.... thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif

Also went to Grand Palace and Wat Phra Keow....entrance fee increased from 250Bath to 300Bath dy....but worth to visit because the Wat Phra Keow or known as Emerald Temple is very stunning!!!  thumbup.gif
Tips here....don't ever ever believe anyone approached you at the entrance, they will give any reason to say you cannot go in the temple now...because they want you to ride a tuk tuk and the tuk tuk will drive you to few gems shop...very wasting time although they said no buy nevermind...they just want to earn the petrol voucher....im so stupid..i remembered i read forum here remind us don't ever believe...but when i got there..so stupid....so sudden kena tipu liao.. vmad.gif  vmad.gif

MBK Mall is very much like Sungai Wang Mall... tongue.gif
But i love Platinum Fashion Mall the most because a lot varieties and the clothes, shoes, bags, souvenir are dirt cheap...food at food court also not bad....i tried the Tom Yam Kung in the foodcourt...  thumbup.gif

ya... its true. i was cheated as well... they told me its closed for 1 hour plus for buddha praying... then suggested me to take a tuk tuk to lucky buddha, standing buddha and marble temple nearby.... then the most importantly is he asked me whether im student. i so naive answered NO.... stupid me. then he say there is a thai export shop on promotion now... yet he say "to go these all places, only need 40 baht, if the tuk tuk charge you 100 baht then don take. its too expensive..." i so stupid asked him help me to get a tuk tuk for me. then after each temple, the tuk tuk brought me to this stupid jewel n tailor shops. i at first said i don wan to go, but he insists to bring me there. he don wan to move until i say YES.... Damn.

luckily when i entered the shops, i told them im still a student, then they din push me, but push me to buy the stupid soap for 350 baht. i insist not to buy. cos i know i can get it for 50 baht outside. then i just walked out. the tuk tuk driver was angry cos i din buy anything (he cant get any commission o petrol coupon) n fetch me back to grand palace even though we hvt been to standing buddha yet. when i reached the entrance of grand palace, only i realised that its open all the time....

so, anyone going to bangkok o grand palace, pls be careful.

hey all, a little help needed here..

if i were to stay at pratunam area, is it convenient for me to travel to chatuchak and other tourist areas?

also, is pratunam located near to places like siam paragon and the city center?

am still deciding whether i should stay at pratunam, silom, khao san or sukhumvit area..

i would like to stay around the city center with convenient transportation provided..

please provide some suggestions regarding this.. thanks for your help! smile.gif

i would suggest u to stay in saladaeng/silom area. its convenient in terms of BTS station and shopping. only 2 stations away from siam paragon n pratunam area. i stayed in Baiyoke sky once which is located in pratunam area and found tat its not convenient for me cos there is no station in tat area. the nearest oso need 20-30 min walk. (Siam station and the other one i think is nana?) but pratunam itself is a good place to shop (platinum mall, pratunam market, central world, siam paragon etc etc)

however, the most important thing for me to stay in bkk is BTS staion! cos basically u can go anywhere if stay nearby BTS/MRT stations.

you can refer to this link if u wanna stay around saladaeng/silom area. i stayed in these B&B when i was in bkk:

www.baansaladaeng.com ----- a very nice and clean place to stay. reasonable price and 5-10 min walk to saladaeng station / patpong nite market

www.takeanaphotel.com ------ nice n clean and cheap. 5-10 min walk to saladaeng station / patpong night market

www.lubd.com ----- this is a hostel. with shared bathroom but i can tell u the toilet is clean n u do not need to worry. i was once worried bout the toilet when i booked this hotel in April 2009. but later i found out it was totally beyond my expectation. 10 min walk to chon nonsi station and 20 min walk to saladaeng station/patpong market.

hope this help.
