Hehe..I'm talking those pirated DVD one..& those souvenir T-shirts & not branded thingy...I dun go for branded blush.gif + I might be wrong on the video games as I'm not on gaming. But judging on the prices of electronics there I though the game console such as PSP is cheaper in KL.. blush.gif

The pirated DVD....Everywhere I go around Sum Lua, Pratunam cloths markets area (Prongtip IT Plaza)..& etc I cannot find anything lower than 100bath!! BTW, avg pirated DVD in KL is ~RM7 and some areas RM6/each..in Bangkok, Min 100bath!! or RM10/each such a dissapoinment...BTW, Penang Batu Feringghi DVD is selling at RM4/each - Bali pricing!! shocking.gif biggrin.gif

On the souvenir T-shirt, I can get the same T-shirt 2 for RM10 in Langkawi or even RM8 in Petaling Street..In Bkk, MBK (Suprisingly the cheapest -Fixed thb90-thb99!!) Even Pratunam areas..The t-shirts is selling at 100bath..after discount thb80! Thats KL pricing! U can even find a reasonable t-shirt for RM5 at Klang Valley pasar malam! biggrin.gif

Nevertheless there are other items that are cheaper in BKK...Food...roadside start from thb20 and Malls food court from thb35 which is cheaper than KL. Also other souvenirs such as decorative laps, leather bags, Bags & etc...I managed to get a Samsonite (Fake) notebook bag at MBK ofr RM90 only rclxms.gif ..& the quality is better than the real thing! shocking.gif ..One thing I like in BKK - the varieties..u can't find it in KL or Singapore.

BTW, those ppl in Malaysia probably gets the stuff in BKK via wholesales in Chinatown - Yes I agreed the stuff at Chinatown especially at the wholesales area are cheap..suprisingly cheap!! shocking.gif Atleast 1/2 of pratunam pricing but need to purchase atleast 1/2 dozen /1 dozen! of same items mad.gif ..Those ppl in chinatown even chased me out vmad.gif .."Shouting "Wholesale-wholesale ONLY!!"

QUOTE(maximsilentfoot @ Feb 23 2008, 12:23 PM)
i beg to differ on some of the things u mentioned. no doubt electronics like cameras can be found for a cheaper price in most cases in KL. but with video games ( i assume u mean pc games too) prices for ORIGINAL stuff are much much cheaper. also cheaper are original DVDs. dunno about the pirated stuff since i dont buy those. for example you can get an original COD4 for RM55 in bangkok. here is around 120 i think? double the price right wink.gif and original dvds i've found for RM25 only if you check out some stores in MBK like maang pong.

as for the clothes, i think ur the first to tell me u can get it cheaper here. have you checked out the prices of clothes in pratu nam? chatuchak? sam paeng/pahurat? i know ppl who go to bangkok just to shop and come back here and sell @ higher prices, while its still cheaper than KL. maybe u can give some direct comparison of stuff that are cheaper here than there and still provide so much variety (which to me is important...pointless to have just one small joint that sells cheaper stuff if there is hardly any to pick from).

even for original brand clothes, the sales @ central branches and robinson are sometimes cut-throat. you can get original luigi batani or valentino shirts at these places for as low as rm35 if you go @ the right time (i'm talking about mall shopping here, not street/bargain shopping).

anyways maybe our experiences differed or you just know more places than me in KL since in my 4 years here i have yet to find a place that can satisfy my shopping needs like bangkok does smile.gif maybe others can give their input wink.gif

Chinatown is located on the western side of Bangkok. If u are using underground MRT system, it is at the last station at Hualampong train Station. But u need to walk for another 1-1.5km from the station to reach Chinatown area..The main road =Yaowarat road

Chatuchat is on the Northern end of Bangkok closer to the old Airport. U can use either the underground or the Skytrain systems to the weekend market. It is adviseable to use the underground MRT as it's nearer. Using Skytrain u need to walk further atleast xtra 500M.

QUOTE(flameboy3 @ Mar 12 2008, 12:16 PM)
wheres the chinatown?chatuchak is it?

Added on March 14, 2008, 10:58 pmPadthai i.e Thai Fried Kueh Teow or Char Tong hoon thumbup.gif ...THB35 at MBK food court or ~THB25 at outside stall

QUOTE(jasperchai @ Mar 12 2008, 09:11 PM)
any nice food to intro??

Added on March 14, 2008, 11:09 pmAlthough both hotels located at Pratunam Garment market BUT the problem is Pratunam is abit far from nearest MRT & skytrain! unless u willing to walk about 2KM to the nearest Skytrain/MRT

Try getting hotels nearer to both lines such as those surrounding Nana at Sumkhumvit, Silom or MBK area...

QUOTE(HelloKitty08 @ Mar 14 2008, 10:38 PM)
I am going to Bangkok next month... But stil in dilema on which hotel to choose...

I have shortlisted some hotels that looks quite ok..  nod.gif

Chinatown is something like Hatyai ...streets after streets wth ppl selling lotsa items along the five foot way + sidelane & even the backlanes!! Infact the activities at the backlanes are more lively....certain back streets are dedicated to wholesale goods..so u must buy atleast 1/2 dozen of same items! and the wholesale price is dirt cheap & cheaper than those in Pratunam..(unless u buy min 1/2 dozen!)..The main road Yaorawat is very jam. nothing much except nice seafood restaurants & gemstores...As I mentioned earlier, Chinatown closed very early..the whole area closed after 6pm..no nite market there! Similarly to Pratunam area too.

Then size of those shopping streets /backlanes & etc is almost 3-4 times larger than Petaling street in KL shocking.gif

For hotels, just read the earlier posting...just get those nearer to MRT/Skytrain...Silom also OK very near to Patpong drool.gif

QUOTE(flameboy3 @ Mar 14 2008, 11:36 PM)
So hows the chinatown?same with chatuchak?....coz chatuchak only got during weekends.Same goes to me..im going next month but have no idea bout the hotel. My friends recommend me around silom area.

Based on my GPS map, Woraburi although located at Soi4 & near nana station (The happening station around Sumkhumvit drool.gif ) but the actual GPS location shows that it's is located deep inside Soi 4..probably u need to walk ~800-900M away to NANA station..Well OK-lah.... biggrin.gif
Have a nice stay & dun forget the famous .... street beside NANA station... drool.gif drool.gif easy to find wth lotsa neon lights & pubs..+ arabs...

U will be seeing lotsa of farang there..probably meet lotsa of Leonardo clones.. biggrin.gif From the link, very close to Khao San road indeed! But far away from Bangkok proper...nevertheless I also noted that it is near water taxi pier....so should not be a problem hopping into the cheap river taxi to the central pier & take sky train from the central pier at Silom.. biggrin.gif or else u can get taxi or tuk-tuk which is not cheap....

QUOTE(khan @ Mar 18 2008, 06:32 PM)

The airport tax at Swanabumi airports had been automated & incorporated as part of respective airlines ticketing system probably since 1st quarter of 2007...I was there in Nov 2006 & hv to pay 500 bath airport tax before entering the departure hall. But my last trip in Jul'07, AA oledi charged the airpot tax in their ticket & no more manual tax payment since then...

Glad u'r bck & enjoyed your trip there...You really got a real bargain to Floating market! Mine is via taxi which cost me thb800 & renting a motorboat at thb1000! Total =thb1800 / 3pax so about thb600/pax! biggrin.gif

BTW, u din goto Chinatown, Wat Arun, Wat Po (Sleeping Buddha & Penis shrine shocking.gif ) & Jim Thompson house? hmm.gif

The thb100 foot massage is a real bargain. I tot thb120 at pratunam is the cheapest then.. blush.gif .....nevermind wait till u find cheapest somemore at Chieng Mai Nite bazaar!.. biggrin.gif All these cheap massages means those in Hatyai really overpirced!! crazy thb200-thb250 for foot massage!!

QUOTE(flameboy3 @ Mar 26 2008, 04:43 PM)
Ok guys,im going to bangkok next week for shopping and sight seeing:hyper:  rclxm9.gif.Heres my itinerary.Would appreciate you guys can help or tips and advise me on this.

Thursday 3rd April 08
Arrive bangkok in noon via air asia.
Check in at AONEINN (The hotel is near to the the M.B.K)
Will go to MBK,Siam Square,Siam Centre,Siam Discovery Centre,Siam Paragorn and all around mbk area.
Since all the place im going is walking distance so no problemla. So far so good

Friday 4th April 08
Pratunam (Daytime Baazar) (will go here first coz its close at 6pm)(No idea How to reach there) You can walk there from Central Plaza (beside Siam Paragon but nearer to Sumkhumvit area) but it will be a tiring 2km walk from Central Plaza...or else from your hotel, take a taxi..it will not be so far away..probably around 3-4KM from MBK
Suan Lum(Nite Baazar) (Lumphini Station M.R.T)
Nana (Wanna go there to eat or dinner coz heard that alot of halal food around there)(No Idea how to reach there) Nana Skytrain station is direct from MBK - No problemo - just take the line heading towards On Nut (Tesco) - but dun go NANA dureing daytime....nothing there at noon...The halal area is somewhere around Soi3 wth lotsa arabs...Another Halal area is actually on the Northern part of MBK closer to Pratunam..can't remember the area....Anyway..the easiest to get halal food is the MBK foodcourt itself! - 2 Arab stalls & probably the Padthai is halal.... hmm.gif
Silom and PatPong  drool.gif (Nite Baazar) (Skytrain Sala Daeng Station and Silom Station M.R.T)

Saturday 5th April 08
Chatuchak Weekend Market (SkyTrain Mo Chit Station) Instead of Skytrain suggest u using MRT bcos the sky train station is abit far compare to MRT to Chatchuchak
Massage (Around M.B.K) Dun think u can get cheap massage there...For cheap one goto Pratunam area or as what Blackbird found out Silom?
RCA (Clubbing  rclxm9.gif ) (If not tired la) (Going there by Taxi)

Sunday 6th April 08
Chatuchak (If got something miss out on Saturday,if not didnt go la)
Rileks around hotel and look for trip to Floating Market.
HealthLand Massage Centre (Since a lot of people saying bout this place..wanna check it out)  (No Idea How to reach there)

Monday 7th April 08
Floating Market
Jim Thompson House (By Walking coz near my Hotel)
Grand Palace ( No Idea how to reach there) Take river taxi from the last Silom skytrain station - check what blackbird did. or else MRT to Hualamphong train station & thereafter taxi to Grand Palace or 100% taxiThe Famous Khao San Road (go by taxi)

Tuesday 8th April 08
Check Out and hangout or do last minute shopping.
Go back KL lor..
If my hotel dont provide tour to Floating Market where can i search for it?Dont want to get con by taxi driver.Any good Massage and Spa for me?Guys hope you can give me advise and tips.Thanks. I heard u can get cheap package at Khao San road...Not sure since I only passby Khao san road not entering that Kwailow area. Nevertheless, lotsa Taxi drivers outside your hotel will offer cheap package to either Floating Market or Ayuthaya.....Be warned..ask the taxi driver to goto to non-motorised boat area because the motorised boat rental is not cheap!! >thb1500/boat unless u know how to bargain!

No not really those tour agents in M'sia (If that what u mean) is abit pricey!..For cheapest rate..go for internet booking...A very reliable & cheap hotel rate in Thailand, I always trust & booked via:

QUOTE(4Rings @ Mar 28 2008, 06:29 AM)
You'll get a cheaper rate if you book thru a travel agent.

Added on March 28, 2008, 10:09 amFrom this website the room looks fantastic for a mere USD30/nite hotel..look like a boutique hotel! drool.gif rclxms.gif ..but check also the review by guests there too...some say good some say bad... biggrin.gif

http://www.sawadee.com/hotel/bangkok/firsthousebkk/

But the location is near Pratunam area..So abit far from Skytrain/MRT

QUOTE(juhjuh @ Mar 27 2008, 09:52 PM)
Hey guys!

My friends and I are going to Bangkok this June to watch a concert. Do you have any recommendations for accommodation? The concert will take place at Bangkok Convention Centre. I talked to a travel agent in Bangkok and she recommended that we stay at either The Residence Rajtaevee or First House Bangkok Hotel. She said they're cheap and close to BTS skytrain.

Quite truthfully, I really am still clueless about accommodation. Too many choices yawn.gif So I was hoping to hear first hand experiences from you here. Do you think we should go through an agency? Some of us are still studying so we prefer it to be cheap LOL. Thank you!

That's per boat rate...for solo, I think buying package is better....The package going there should be around thb800-thb1000/pax. I saw one tourist agent along Rama 4 offering THB900...The cheapest is at Khao San road as more Farang/kwai loh there..& thus easier to get cheap rate.

No point taking a taxi of thb800 & the stupid taxi drop u at the motorised boat area & really kena ketuk! ..On the non-motorised boat, I read somewhere in virtual tourist should be ~thb150-thb200 /pax
QUOTE(flameboy3 @ Mar 28 2008, 12:42 PM)
Bro stimix. For the boat rental at floating market the rate is per person or for 1 boat?im doing solo trip to there. How much roughly for the non-motorised boat?

QUOTE(jasperchai @ Apr 3 2008, 09:39 AM)
hi wanna ask bout the operating hours for the following market/bazaar...

1) Pratunam--Only day time closed after 6pm
2) Chinatown--Only day time closed after 6pm
3) Suan Lum --Nite gigantic sounenir market open after 5/6pm - it is huge!
4) Chatucak--Only on weekend Morning till dunno what time

Any other market/bazaar i fgtten plz list down .. tq
Others include Patpong nite market very similar to the olden day Petaling street but wth added advantages..free eye washing on those open bar wth bikini babes dancing while u shop till drop..but beware..prices in Patpong is 2-3 times the prices in Suan Lum nite market and therefore u need to bargain >50% & not 30%!

Khao San road...heard about the same nite market but to get there is troublesome..no skytrain/MRT except using water taxi from the last Skytrain station in Silom.

If u hv read, u should be able to find numerous link to sawaddee.com & all the available hotels & the rates are there...expect RM90-RM160 for 3 stars hotel. & Yes they do used metre & if don't go to nxt taxi..there are lotsa taxi in BKK..rate abit higher than KL..start from 30bath onwards if I'm not mistaken hmm.gif

U probably need 2 weeks to cover the 2 cities & 1 resort island. It is easier to start from Phuket >>BKK>>Chieng Mai. 4 days in Phuket, 4 days in BKK & another 4 days in ChiengMai...From Bkk to Chieng Mai, normally tourist prefer taking a train ride.. hmm.gif

QUOTE(t3nchi @ Apr 8 2008, 05:42 AM)
Hi everyone. I tried to read as much as I could in this thread but I just couldn't make it very far. But please help me with this:

I plan to visit Thailand while I'm in msia this june. I plan to hit up ChiangMai, Bangkok, Phuket... will 1-2 weeks be enough? I plan to fly from city to city as they are pretty far. And for the most part, walk a lot or take simple public transportation.

How much do hotels cost a night (say a 3-star) so I don't get ripped off. Also, do they use a meter in their taxi rides? I don't want to be the stupid tourist who gets ripped off.

I appreciate it. It sucks not being able to speak the language but I'll try to pick up some important phrases.

Not much u can bargain...I hv personally did not shop in Chatuchak although been there (Too bad on weekday! blush.gif )...frankly not much u can bargain....For price reference, check MBK...Those souvenir shirt in MBK oledi fixed pricing normally selling at 90-99thb /each..so u will be expecting about 150thb at Sum Luan & 120bath at Pratunam or 300bath in Patpong!! ..so bargain hard also u probably getting 90bath at Sum Luan, 100bath at Patpong & 80thb at Pratunam....at the end....I always telling myself...hei isn't the cheapest in Bkk also selling in KL hmm.gif doh.gif ..sumore in KL u can get abit lower quality one at RM5 sad.gif biggrin.gif

On the package to Floating market & if u check in virtual tourist, ppl was talking about 600-700bath/pax hmm.gif ...For me, I took a taxi there to/fro=800thb & chartering a motorised boat for 1000thb...so total=1800thb for 3 ppl or 600thb/pax. The taxi guy wanted to bring us to Elephant show, snake farm & etc..but we rejected his offer..nevertheless I only agreed on visiting the gems store (He will get the free petrol voucher to subsidise the cheap fare ..so do those cheap tuk-tuk in BKK too..some said it's a SCAM..well just avoid from buying.). He also bring us to Grand Palace & Khai San road for free after the floating market ride.. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(zmsoon @ Apr 22 2008, 03:07 PM)
BTW how much should be bargain on Chatuchak Market ah (50% or more)? If chatuchak can bargain 50% then Suan Lum have to bargain more than 50% lol tongue.gif

I search on internet got some package offer to Floating Market + Crocodile Farm + Elephant Show cost THB1,000. Is it worth?
