please giv me some advice.
The thing I am worry is I might seldom use it like if I am cycling or travelling only will used it.
I feel like if I get gopro hero 4 black is kind of waste if I not really use it frequently, because the device itself is not cheap already. pls giv me some advice. Many thanks. smile.gif

hi, i had this dilemma, so heres my opinion, i bought the GP4 Silver, it is superb !, the only downside for it is the battery life, it can only stay recording for 1-2 hours fully charged, other than that its a great device.

That's normal battery duration for hero 4 silver. My previous hero 3 black only record around 1 hour 20min. Glad my hero 4 silver can record a bit longer plus can see the view on lcd icon_idea.gif

use long cable and put powerbank inside your back pack smile.gif that what i would do.. using a gopro is about versatility.. unless u wanno go surfing or diving can invest on battery bacpac.. imagine diving for 2-3 hours blink.gif hahah..

ps: i dunno whether hero 4 silver can accept a bacpac module or not.. sweat.gif

to me, the image stabilization is minor, because GP4 Silver are build for sports, and sports requires alot of movements, based on the video clips GP4 silver shows, i never see any instability on the video captured, even when the GP4 Silver is mounted on animals, it still gives out a stabilized video. So yeah =X

here is what gopro fanboy says about sony...
the recording angle are small, due to the image cropping used for image stabilizing. (same thing like pspslim said, stablizer is useless)
the video looked soft (well, from all the cropping stabilizer algorithm, image tend to drop in quality)

here is what sony fanboy says about gopro...
their video look like you are sitting on the waasasasshhihihiing maccchhhinneeenneneeneee.... (i watched side by side comparison of bike ride video, it is DAMN obvious!... well, thats because its side by side comparison... if u watched it without comparison, u wouldn't know the differences, the feeling is like one person handheld a video cam vs one person using glidecam - floating feel)
thier color is so dulllllll and washed out, requires a lot Post processing. sony straight out can use.

but, if you have intention to use it at night.... let it be as for video camera purpose or riding.... sonyas200 will win a mile.

as for batterylife... its normal... building smaller and smaller, battery get small too. afaik, gopro has external battery pack direct connect to extent its life... i have not seen sony has it yet (correct me if im wrong)

i just share what i know... i might be wrong in some aspect point of view.
edit: sidenote: sony stabilizer can be off to gain back the full angle for recording.

Well i'm GP4 Silver user and yes your point is right.
Even on slowly walking the video captured looks very shaky.

Silver edition wih lcd touch at the back really helpful and user friendly especially for someone like me who always curious wanna check immediately at the picture after shoot.

In terms of audio and video quality i am very happy. Compare to my hero 3 black, hero 4 silver picture quality look sharper.

For the shaky part, train your hand or body to move gently while recording video or just use gimbal.

IMHO

Image quality, sony win against gopro hero 4 silver

Accessories and versatility, gopro hero easily win over sony

Many third party gopro accessories available and ready in the market

Sony accessories price always premium.

Sony as200v seems like a lil bit bulky (mini handycam size)

gopro hero 4 silver come with touch screen lcd, and adventure edition come with diving housing waterproof up to 30m depth.

I recommend you to use gopro hero 4 silver, simply because: You gonna use it for cycling, and with gopro you can easily mount it anywhere you want.. helmet, monopod / selfie stick, bike frame, handle bar, car window, etc (various type of mounting available and easily support its size & weight)

and if you gonna use the sony i believe its gonna be to bulky to mount it on your helmet..

I found out something from groupon for gopro hero4 black edition. Should I consider black edition or silver still??
http://www.groupon.my/deals/national-deal/...et-20/720441551 - gopro hero4 black
http://www.ensogo.com.my/deals/gopro-hero4...tion-1432802773 - gopro hero4 silver

because I am trying to set my budget less than 2k so that I can use the other money to buy accessories and etc.

If you are not professional shooter, no point you are getting black edition. because black edition come with more feature and for pro, but Gopro 4 Black edition did not come with the lcd screen. you have to purchase it separately as additional accessory

I was in similar dilemma choosing between black or silver. And yes I am in the video industry and yet decided to go for silver edition.

Black edition with original additional lcd backpack screen will cost you easily over 2k.

If i were you here is my plan:

Hero 4 silver adventure edition: RM1369 (lowest in the market)
Triple Charger battery + 2 Additional Battery from smatree RM 149 (trust me you need at least additional 1 battery. and i recommend minimum of 2 spare battery for you. but for me now i have 5 spare battery)
Monopod stick third party
Helmet Mount third party
Bike clamp third party
Aluminium CNC case
floaty handgrip for swimming
anti fog for swimming..

some pic for your reference..

I wouldn't side any because both has strength and weakness. And both weakness can be fix via post processing..., or your skill of adaption... And computer skills. Having no antishake can easily fix via postprocess for stablelizing effect.

I would talk about aerodynamic. I'm bike rider... As in 120kmh is my normal speed. (And up to 200kmh during long distance rides) Mounting go pro require dynamic location, else it will cause so much drag (eg helmet) that becomes a discomfort... As for sony... The design really really make sense.

Mount in bike also requires spotting a good location as bike actually vibrate fiercely(get worst when at high-speed with wind drag)... Hence gopro suffer a lot of good location to mount. As for sony... It's very friendly to mount anywhere with good forward aerodynamic.

There are a lot 3rd party accessories for both brand... Even some argue that gopro has more... To me those "more" are 4th party china replicate's replica.. I won't bother to use them, as I have many of my rider friend lost their cameras(including those rm400 China's cam) to cheap mounting broke during riding.

So yea, I'm a little bias toward sony for bike riding... I'm not sure for other sport.
If mount on your body, then gopro aerodynamic surely is better then sony.

As for quality, both brand are leading with their quality. I would say number 1 and number 2 spot.... So there isn't any need to argue "who's better"... They are surely better then action camera 3years back... So pick the one yourself really bias on(like some ppl have brand preference, as we know many people are anti sony for whatever reason, from handphones to Tv).... And learn to love it, and learn to cope with its weakness.
