Hi, just like to ask those who had been to Japan, is it enough to budget for RM4000 only for foods for 10 days (about 24 meals) for 2 adults and 1 kid? Most likely we will get our breakfast from convenient shops.

QUOTE(cc980024 @ Jun 22 2015, 09:46 AM) Average RM400/day should be enough, provided that you don't simply try on any finger food on the street. Just bear in mind that their dinner is much more pricier than lunch. We went there 2 yrs back (2 adult + 6yr-old kid) similar to you. Don't think that you will like to hunt for bento (packet food) at the supermarket every late evening waiting for discounts. What we did last time was we make sure we have good breakfast (hotel breakfast) to reduce your crave to hunt for food, and big lunch. Their lunch set prices are quite compatible with KL Japanese restaurant (but with better quality and portion). Having 2 sets basically make 3 stomach happy enough. Dinner can settle with convenient shops. Thanks for the tips! I have 5 nights booked through Airbnb's private apartment, so no breakfast. Will try to source for foods from their wet market, convenient shops or budget food chain. We are food lovers, don't think we can resist fingers food on the streets and I am quite flexible on the food budget though. ☺

My neighbor advised me to go end November for the koyo peak but I can't make it. Will go higher areas like Koyasan and Takao for better chance.

QUOTE(ivzh @ Jun 24 2015, 08:02 PM) Hope the apartment is OK. Quite unsure when doing the reservation via airbnb, however since the rate in kyoto is super peak, no choice lo.. I rather save the budget for food and onsen ryokan. hehe Me too, was reluctant to book at first but my friend gave positive review of her booking through Airbnb. The hotel rate in November is super high, I checked almost everyday through Booking for triple room, mostly RM3-4K for 3 nights. Those cheap one has bad review or super tiny room. I am very particular on the cleanliness of the hotel. Don't worry, we will keep the apartment clean. You are lucky that the day before your check in is vacant and the cleaner has sufficient time to do the cleaning. This post has been edited by jefferenelee: Jun 24 2015, 08:25 PM

Hi, just like to ask those who had been to Kyoto and Takayama in 2nd to 3rd week of November, is it cold? I read that the average temperature is between 6°C~18°C. I am reluctant to bring the down jacket as it is quite bulky. Just wondering if we can survive with just thick sweater or wear in layers. Is it just like a Genting Highland or much colder?
We have been to Korea's winter in December so I know what to wear for winter but not too sure about autumn.

Hi, noted that the day is getting dark by 5pm during November in Kyoto. If we choose to check in the accommodation about 5pm, is it difficult to search for direction without the daylight? And is it safe to walk from the train station to the apartment that we stay? Anyway It's just about 5 mins walk from the station.
My apologies ya for asking stupid question.

Hi, did anyone ever purchase the Kansai Thru pass through this site http://www1.nanka-e-tabi.com/neren/ItemList.aspx?pno=2 ? I have checked with JTB Malaysia, they no longer sell the Kansai Thru Pass in Malaysia and asked me to buy in Kansai Airport. How long does it takes to process the purchase at Kansai Airport? Can it be done in 15 mins? Coz I need to get 2 types of pass (KTP and Takayama Hokuriku Pass) done early in the morning at KIX's Nankai station and JR's office. Thanks ya for the inputs and sharing.

QUOTE(vincentwmh @ Sep 22 2015, 03:18 PM) >>my budget for makan for my coming trip rm300/2pac/day.. doable?Yes, for 12D (12x3=36meals), Per pax, i allow breakfast Y600x12=Y7200; mid-range lunch/dinner Y1000x20=Y20000; and high range lunch/dinner (sushi etc) Y4000x4=Y16000; total Y43200x2pax=Y86,400, say Y87000/36meals for 2 pax = rm258/2pax/day>>i plan to bring only rm5k worth of yen for my 12day trip (makan/transportation/admission fee)rm5K = <Y150000 for 12 days? i deeply DOUBT so for 2 pax!! if u meant bring rm 5K per pax, then OK..makan oledi Y87000(estimate), transport/ad fees very subjective la, if no go anywhere, maybe can. don't count of credit card unless u all meals/ shoppe at 5-star I would bring RM7k for our 10 days trip, purely on foods, entrance fees and transport(minus out the Takayama Hokuriku pass which I will buy in Malaysia). And I will activate one or two Debit cards for ATM withdrawal just in case. My budget is less than RM5K/pax (total cost exclude shopping) for 10D8N. Should be on track I think.

QUOTE(ivzh @ Sep 23 2015, 12:34 PM) I think u need to activate your atm card in ATM machine in malaysia for oversea usage.. I tried my maybank card last time.. so far no issue, however not sure the limit thou Yes, need to activate in Malaysia for overseas ATM withdrawal. Hong Leong can activate yourself online. For other bank, just give the customer service a call. After activation, can withdraw JPY from ATM with some charges. I heard the exchange rate is better than Money changer in Malaysia.

Hi, all the sifu here, how about this in one day:
Fushimi Inari (start at 7am and spend 3 hours here and walk to the top) Tofukuji (spend 2 hours to explore) Lunch at Nishiki market - Take Keihan Line to Gojo-shijo station follow by 10 mins walk to Nishiki market. Or take City Bus 207 to 四条高倉. Which way is more convenient?
Nishiki market to Higashiyama district and Kiyomizu-Dera.
We wanted to stroll along also the Pontocho area in one of the evening for dinner. Is it expensive to dine here since this is one of the tourist spot?

QUOTE(michlove @ Sep 29 2015, 02:23 PM) Kok Kong in KL have winter clothes for kids. I buy from there. I bought my winter down coat from Kok Kong too 3 years ago, quality quite good though made in China but I think the design is bit outdated and their price quite expensive. Just found an online shop which you may browse through: http://www.winterclothes.com.my/ but not sure about quality though.
