1. Any experienced driver in tokyo area?. Managable?. People say if u can survived driving in kl u can drive anywhere.
2. How easy it is to get parking space?.
3. Too cool is the best site to go to for car hire. For toll do they have cash lanes as i do not intend to rent their etc card.
4. They have included internet free plan in the car . Anybody has got experience in using it?. May skip using gps if internet plan is active as can easily use google maps.

Driving at Tokyo was extremely expensive. Parking cost will killing you.
If you plan to visit Tokyo only no need Driving becasue the Metro subway already cover 90% o City.

There are 8 of us inclusive children. Travelling by mrt in singapore was already a hassle ended up using 2 taxis most of the time. Just wonder if anybody has got some answers to my questions. (Was told parking in melbourne city was expensive but ended up paying 50cent/ hr at the city centre). May rent the car to hakone and fuji area instead of inside the city itself.

need some help on the below itinerary here, I'm travelling end of this year December, total 7 adult and 5 kids to Tokyo - Osaka.

Touch down late night 30/11, means first day is already gone.

Stay in Tokyo 30/11 - 3/12, then Osaka 4 - 9/12.

Towards Hakata Station, unreserved seats are located in car no 1-3 (front side of the train).

Towards Shin-Osaka Station, the arrangement is fixed (the unreserved seats are now located on the last few cars) or it will still change to the front side?

Just always remember unreserve seat coach are 1 2 3.
Platform will show you the guide also. The platform floor will also show you this is unreserve seat coach stopping.

Even you boarding the train, beside the door have one small digital led info saying this is Unreserve seat section.

Has anyone landed Osaka KIX on a delayed AAsia flight? What choices after midnight? Will they allow to hang around airport public area or Umeda terminals until trains start in the morning?

KIX are 24 Hour operational Airport. You can Hang around plus it has 24 Hour shop.

Are these outside past immigration, accessible to general public, or only in the transit areas (maybe arriving pax not allowed)?

BTW found last bus to Osaka at 01:30

You coming in from International section. You have to take kansai Airport Transit train to domestic section which is Middle part of terminal 1st Floor

1) what the experience like. Easy or jampacked
2) paying toll - can pay cash?.
3) free internet option - free with the car. Anybody has any experience with it?.

i use nippon car rental , car comes with wifi , no need add or top up, i drive in hokkaido , not tokyo , i drive during winter , someplace can be jampacked and some can be no people , basically its same with malaysia only , traffic light etc , just that dont speed and always keep a distance with front , japan driver all very friendly and polite, not like malaysia ah beng style =D

rent a etc card - very cheap only ( like smart tag ) and go thru ETC , pay cash sometimes can be jam / they might dont know speak english if got any problem .

It seems that you will be spending lot of hours on traveling instead of enjoying the places.

Don't forget that it is going to be winter where night fall around 5pm. Basically everything slows down and part of the business close around 8pm. Hence, you may not plan much stuff for night time, especially you have kids with you.

By the way, you may need to re-check on Mt. Fuji. If not mistaken, I come across some info that visitor may not get near during winter as it is too cold. Probably can see from far when you passing by in train.

2 years back, I went to Osaka for 5D/4N trip just enough to cover some of the tourism places and no time to step my feet on Umeda at all.

I will be going to Osaka-Kyoto in this December too. Will be spending 2N in Kyoto and 6N in Osaka (a daytrip to Kobe).

Do check out the tourism website for each of the city you intend to go, and think through how much you can cover or your purpose is just "touch n go" the city will do?

Sorry, never drove from Tokyo before.

Regarding the other things:

1.) For toll, pick a car company with ETC option. It will automatically pay the toll for you, then you contra with the company when you return the car. Much easier because you don't need to keep paying cash.

2.) No experience with free internet option.

Kyoto, staying Nagomi Ryukan (purposely wanna to try Ryukan feel -- sleep on tatami).
Osaka, we r staying at Hillarys Hotel (in Namba). Stayed this hotel 2 years back.

But the Hillarys Hotel in Osaka running out of room. I can't book 6nite straight. So end up booked 4 nites non-smoking room, 1 nite smoking, and final nite bk to non-smoking. Imagining I gotta carry my bag down check-out and check-in again, for 2 more rounds. hahaha.

Have you secure your hotels?

better b fast, as holiday seasons room selling out pretty fast and you hardly get good deal.

I would recommend a host name Junka on airbnb if you are willing to walk and carrying luggage one or two floor up is not an issue for you.

Nearest sub-way station - Tanabe. About 10 mins walk through the neighbourhood.

Paid for around MYR 480 for 3 nights (2 pax). Host will pick you up on your arrival, can arrange for send off to station again if required.

During my stay we were assigned of the 2nd floor unit. Large living room with one bed room. private toilet and come with washing machine & kitchen.

Anyone know if Namba Station have luggage storage (those we pay a fee and temporarily leave our big luggage there)?

Mostly ppl told me key locker to store big bags, not sure a big travel luggage can fit.

LOL! you are a female Yup, they have the kimono rental and tea ceremony too. I stayed there last November but due to lack of time, didn't manage to try the activities.

There is a left luggage facility around shinsaibashi, no idea about namba.

Am taking the airport express from Namba Station.. and tat is nearer from my hotel. Cannot imagine dragging my luggage to shinsaibashi

I am taking night flight home, not sure my hotel will keep my luggage as I already check-out by then, since they have very limited space to keep luggage.

How you get around Kyoto? Got cycle? Am calculating whether cycle save time or walk fast fast + public transport faster. As I only have 2 days there.. greedily wanna cover more sightseeing.

In Kyoto, I took train/tram + bus combo. Rail will save time for longer distances.

Kansai Thru Pass covers non-JR trains, while Kansai Area Pass covers JR trains.
Which one is more convenient and save more money?
Can the pass used non-consecutively, i.e. Monday, Wednesday, Friday?

If travel less often, i.e. conference purpose at certain location, would one way ticket more economic?

If I wanted to go to Kobe from Kansai International Airport, I heard there's ferry services.
Is that included in any of the passes mentioned above (Kansai Thru Pass/Kansai Area Pass)?
And is it advisable to buy online here then go there to redeem?

you can always check how much single trip cost. There is also Osaka unlimited subway ticket @ 800 Yen per day, if you do not require other transports on that day.

The benefit of KTP for me is the free admission to some attractions. We plan our day from other part of Kansai to Osaka and visit these attractions with free admission that we are interested. Otherwise @ nearly 2k JPY per day is kinda expensive to pay for.

First you must know Narita Airport are not 24 hour operation airport. The Airport have to shutdown at 10pm due to Japan Aviation Law and Enviroment law. All inland airport are same in Japan.


So most shop are open until 9 to 10pm.

Singapore Changi and Seoul Incheon also same.
Seoul Incheon so far are the most best. 24 hour Airport Shopping Mall......

lol ya meh. the last time i went 9.30pm all shops closed already. those 24 hour shops are just a small and tiny portion. at 9.15pm people already queuing up to run home. maybe times have changed.

i will be travelling to Osaka on October, and will visit Osaka, Kyoto, Arashiyama, Koyasan, Nara and Okayama within 11 days, which one is better:

1. Get best deal for 10 nights stay at Osaka

or

2. Stay within the places i go

This few weeks just keep reading all the versions of travel to japan by RC. really enjoyed reading all the thread n posts. it gives u different information that cant be found via googling only.

Just bought one way tix for 3 pax ,

KL > Osaka, arrive morning (7th Jan @RM399 each)

Tokyo > KL, depart in the morning (1st Feb @RM412 each,since buying 1 way from JP, it calculate its own forex, supposed to be RM369/399 if buying return tix)

So far have been reading only, havent plan out my itinerary but mostly will cover Osaka/kyoto/tokyo (taking it slow n savoring every bit,and neighboring towns. hence the flight route.)

Time for homework just worried now bout snow canceling flights/train in and out. hopefully not, since its city area. Also reason putting tokyo at last destination is we're probably buying alot stuff from tokyo so, dont wanna be carrying them around while traveling.

Hi, just like to ask those who had been to Japan, is it enough to budget for RM4000 only for foods for 10 days (about 24 meals) for 2 adults and 1 kid? Most likely we will get our breakfast from convenient shops.

Average RM400/day should be enough, provided that you don't simply try on any finger food on the street. Just bear in mind that their dinner is much more pricier than lunch. We went there 2 yrs back (2 adult + 6yr-old kid) similar to you. Don't think that you will like to hunt for bento (packet food) at the supermarket every late evening waiting for discounts. What we did last time was we make sure we have good breakfast (hotel breakfast) to reduce your crave to hunt for food, and big lunch. Their lunch set prices are quite compatible with KL Japanese restaurant (but with better quality and portion). Having 2 sets basically make 3 stomach happy enough. Dinner can settle with convenient shops.

Depent which airline you taking. AirAsia I perfer Narita because I wont be rushing. AirAsia reach Haneda always nearly midnight. Rushing for train or bus. One mistake then fxxx.

If I taking Eva Air then I prefer Haneda. Reach on noon , no pressure on rushing. Near to Tokyo city.

btw from my recent experience in KIX airport, at night the volume of people reduced by a lot.. almost becoming a dead airport, most shops ceased operating and fewer shops compare to the "grand" KLIA2

Narita Airport are build in land. Means aircraft fly over resident area and cause Noise pollution. In Japan law, no aircraft can fly over Japan inland after 10pm. Except Japan Military or Search and Rescure.

btw, to share my experience of solo backpack trip to Kyoto-Osaka

Touchdown at Kansai Airport late at night
Due to drowsiness and abit dizziness, I had no choice but had to have a nice sleep on the first night. At the very last minute decision, I stayed the first night in KIX Hotel Nikko, walked in straight without reservation, fortunately they still had a room at 18500 Yen, pricey of course, but considering it is a 4-star hotel, the price is actually not too far from similar hotels in KL.

Then on second day, took Haruka Ltd Express to Kyoto Station, stayed at Stella Higashiyama guest house there for 3 nights, the rooms were roughly RM90/night (solo room). It is a very clean guest house, furnitures all very new. Staffs are friendly and nice, and cute also .

On Osaka part, I stayed in Sunnystone Hotel. Rates were roughly RM 130/night. Despite being a 2-star hotel, the quality can match those of 3 stars and above in Malaysia.

throughout the 7 days trip, I managed to visit

it was an exhilirating journey for me. In Japan city area, with Google Map equipped, you can travel to virtually all hotspots by foot, buses, and trains. I think I walked a total of over 15km in that 7 days, I ate a lot but my bodyfat still dropped 2% when I came back.

bro, I was there for only 7D6N

due to solo trip, I tend to wake up at 9am, ding dong here and there, then only go out from 10 onwards

some time were spent in window shopping and random encounter at the street as well, for me I would rather go lesser places so that can be more immersed in the zen temples in Kyoto. I spent longest time in Kiyomizu and Shoren-in, the woods there can really make one feel calm.

I told people before, Japan is not a place where you can get it all in one trip. Hence there's no rush for me, probably in two years time I will go there again, yes my first time to Japan... hehe people say go SG or HK more than one time will feel bored, but Japan go multiple times you will still get different excitement
