sleep mode for flashed DS lites?

What happens when you have a flashed DS, played from a flashcart, didn't insert a DS cart into slot-1, and closed the DS to go into sleep mode?
Mine just have both its screens flashed white and black, and the green LED flashing. Does that save some battery life when compared to leaving the DS open when I'm on short breaks? |
