To all sifus and experts

I'm currently staying in a small apartment. So not much space between wall to wall as the apartment design is thin and long . Currently looking for a soundbar to watch movie and listening to music of all genre. My budget is around 1k. Any recommendation on what to get?

Thanks in advance

What is the room size by square feet? Room size is important factor to consider the proper RMS or wattage to ensure room-filling but clean sound. Try to avoid soundbar cause it's really not that enjoyable. Since you're limited with budget of only RM1,000, I don't think you can set up any decent passive speakers with separate amp or receiver. Your choice is only active speakers or powered speakers as of now.

Hi sifus and peeps, I have just listened to some of my favourite CDs at my friend's home on Marantz CD6006 CD Player and Marantz PM6006 integrated amplifier that were paired with KEF Q100 speakers. I'm impressed.

I am thinking of starting my HiFi journey now and would appreciate advice on what other speakers would pair nicely, or dare i ask, better, with the same CD player and integrated amplifier? I wouldn't mind buying used speakers to keep my spend low, as long as i get better value. I quite like the KEF Q100s' sound signature. I have since tried out the Wharfedale Denton's 85th Anniversary speakers and didn't quite like how they sounded for my kind of music which is mostly rock.

Thanks in advance.

For rock music is better to try on floor stander speaker. Q acoustic 3050 is something low cost and good. Give it a try

for starters....just a reminder....equipment is just 30% of the journey....there are many many variables to get the music sound right

if you are on budget hunt...obviously used units way to go but you kinda need to know how to check for defects

KEF Q100 is a little too small. i would recommend to go something bigger like the Q300...
another speaker you can consider on budget Q Acoustics...quite impressive

Usher S-520 bookshelves...i personally own them and placed it at my father-in-laws place to continue to play them....they sound great with 60watts to 100watts....

i listen to many genre...rock for sure....alternative, pop, jazz, classical....

the point is to maintain neutrality and musicality rather than pointing to coloured tonality like people always say they like warm vocals...like kopi'o kau kau....

Hi all,

I've narrowed down to the Klipsch RP-600M bookshelf speakers with the Klipsch SPL-100.

I'm looking for recommendations for a 2.1 channel amp to power the speakers and also stream my music.

I was recommended either the Denon AVR-X3500H or the Roksan K3. The Denon seems like overkill for a hifi setup as I'm only looking to play music.

I usually stream music via Tidal using my FIIO M11.

Thanks in advance!

I have an old sub woofer laying around somewhere, inactive. I'm not a bass head at all.

Where can I find Q Acoustics 3050? I'm actually leaning towards KEF Q550.

Haven't come across any new Q300 so far. Will need to consider Q350/Q550. Worried Marantz PM-6006 would not be able to drive them floorstanders, Q550 and 3050i.

SkyCaptain having a subwoofer is not about bass head...its more to complete the frequency range and give your stage ambience.....

as oppose to boom and bang, a proper tuned sub will bring magic to your enjoyment
for instance...jazz...the instruments like double bass or heavy bass strings, some bookshelves are not able to articulate the detail due to its small 5 or 6 inch mids....a sub like 10inch will deliver it better...no doubt a musical sub is not easy to tune

playing with floor standers...its not just power, but you need to look into damping factor of the amp and as well as how you tune the spikes and floor positioning
bookshelves vs floorstanders....some do not vary in power....
apart from Marantz....depending on your taste, there are other potential good used amps out there like the older Arcam Alphas
Sansui's....old but gold
if you raise the budget abit...a used Unison Research Unico integrated isnt bad too

then for source....well honestly this is a very open ended arguement....but one thing for sure...everything starts with the source...

happy setup....feel free to ping me to chit chat if you want....

Q300 discontinued a few years back. newer Q350 bass port facing rear.
btw, i dont think pm6006 is weaker than my "mini-radio"

Does your mini radio have enough juice for your floorstanders? I recently had a listen to Q500/Q550 paired with Marantz PM-6006 and CD-6006, and I felt the mid range a little cloudy, the treble is subdued, voice is a little lacklustre compared to entry level Tannoys (90dB sensitivity vs 87dB for the KEFs). My local HiFi shop threw me a curve ball. Now the Tannoys are at the top of my list.

i connect using bi-amp (4x30watt). bass is kicking, multiple voice has seperation & treble is fast.
it goes so well im amazed, becos i always thought 4ohm speaker must pair with giant amp.

you made me recall of earlier Q300 in friend house. he is using the exact same marantz radio as mine, except he connect as single ended (2x60w).
it need more than 50% volume for normal listening.
when we go loud, treble & bass are overtaking vocals it loses control.
later i borrow him pm7001 (sold), then it is sufficient.

SB2K. Fast response sub. I got the sibling, PB2K. Looking for another one to pair them. They say 2 better than one.

Yup. Goes very well with SuperZeros in my bedroom.

2x sub is usually better, but again depends on room size / shape, type of sub / speakers, etc. It can sound worse. Bought a dsp + calibration mic for room tuning but lucky never needed to use them...lol

Could be the amp, try audition some expensive powerful amp like Rega Elex R with same speaker to compare.
