For me, i will start paper train my pups when they are 1 month old. We must understand that most pups cant hold bladder very long or at least not as long as adults, hence we should confine them in a smaller area so that they wont pee or poo at the wrong spot due to the right spot is too far away.

Normally what i will do is to place them in a big crate, inside there i will make it confortable, at one of the corner i will place a tray with newspaper on top, most of the time the puppy will know newspaper is the right spot to pee & poo, it might be due to instinct but i realise that it helps if you make the place confortable like placing clothes & toys inside. They wouldnt dirty the place normally, they will choose to pee & poo on the newspaper instead.

Until they know where they are supposed to pee or poo on, try let them roam a bigger space while you are around, this time you may try all the methods thought you here, praise & punishment ON THE SPOT, be consistent & you need lots of patient, after a week or two, i believe that your pup will be trained properly.

BTW, it is true that pedigree and brands like ALPO is too commercial to be good, i would recommend Blackwood since im feeding personally.

Well to feed a dog a premium or super premium quality dog food, it wouldnt cost you much if you only have one dog. For my maltese, i have calculated, each day they consume less than 50 cents per dog feeding Blackwood which is considered super premium dog food. Well i believe that for dog like beagle, it will cost you within RM50 - RM100 per month.

It is much more affordable if you were to send your dog to vet due to sickness next time.

BTW, which vet are you talking about? He is selling custom made food???
