Its like that.. you pay a lot more for the fancy looking stuff.. just like their water heater.. want black colour plastic, pay more. Want fancy plastic cover, pay more. When in fact the inside components are the same.
Get a normal one and use the savings for two of those Sharp HEPA air purifiers (380-399/ea) will be better to ensure dust free environment.

I, too dont like All In One features.

Something spoilt, all cannot use.

About pana reliability or other AC  reliability  really  hard to say.  without  the real figures .
cos  you do see  users  who swear  that their pana  keep going faulty  nod.gif

I will favour  AC  with longer warranty  as this is a good indication of Reliability .
*
I have 18 units of pana aircond in three places some more than 10 years.

So far only 3 units failed me and now keeping it for spare parts....pcb board, fan motor, coil etc.

Same factory doesn't mean same products.

Both Hyundai & BMW CKD are assembled in same plant. Do you think both are the same products?
*
Contract assembler and manufacturing are two different process.

Two different makes cannot be same product in contract assembly.

Two different brands of similar product from a single manufacturer can be same product albeit in different design. Eg. KDK and Panasonic exhaust fan.

Okay maybe my example is too extreme.

But still, my point is it isn’t the same product. They might share some same components, but still it isn’t the same product having the same performance.
*
Similar products shared major components. That is the bulk of manufacturing cost. The rest are secondary. The major component in aircond is the compressor, I doubt it will have different performance on the two brands. Same compressor but different BTU specs. Different for customers but is the same for manufacturer.

Same manufacturer, different brands, design and specs are marketing strategies to capture market share. Manufacturer cannot claimed is similar, to cater for different market based on affordability. They also cannot have similar price for the two brands as price differentation is important to fight competitors products.

just some thoughts .

what is the  normal service life  of house AC  ?  before you plan for a new one.    8 years ?  or

why use /keep  an Aircond if its more then   say  10 years ?
i guess  by then  cooling  performance would have drop 50 %   compare to todays  AC.
power consumption  will i guess  40 % higher .
AC gas  have changed from r22 , r410 , r 32
my opinion  is  AC Reliability  is  not  measured by the number of years it lasted  in service .

i would use the FIRST   5 years  of service  as a guide .
and counting the number of service faults  per year  figure to get a reliable  indicator.

AC reliability is specific to  AC model , invertor or non invertor.
*
1 unit is used as homestay .. bill as per booking usage.

1 unit is office ... bill is +/- 100 depending on working hours.

Own staying .. bill is quite consistent every month except during mco time when usage was higher.

All units are non inverter.

I am lucky to know 1 pana staff technician and he service and trouble shoot for my units.

Honestly, I hardly had any faults with my aircond except for once awhile water leakage which I can solve myself.

I replace compressor if cooling efficiency drops instead of buying new unit as advise by him.

hi,

I'm looking for a good aircon contractor recommendations around klang valley.

My new house has all the inverter copper, drain pipes and wiring built-in.
No additional hacking needed.
No outdoor mounting bracket needed.

I find it strange when they are still charging the normal installation rates RM200 for 1HP, RM230 for 1.5HP and so on.

Zero material cost and purely installation labor only for 7-8 aircons.
*
Buy with price include installation. You have better bargaining terms.

Hi, this is my first time buying aircon. I got in mind either Panasonic / Daikin. However still torn between inverter or non inverter. Based on below situation, can anyone advise which should i get?

1. Bedroom 1.0 HP - Small bedroom around 110sqf. Expected to turn on more than 5 hours everyday.
2. Living room 2.0HP - Expected to seldom turn on.
*
I will buy non inverter.

Tried a few shops without luck.
All claimed installation is outsourced to contractors.
*
You try this way ...

Approach a installation contractor. Ask him to quote package deal. If his price is cheaper, then give the job him.

Caution ... dont pay money upfront.if is individual. There are installer who operates as normal shop doing repair, iinstallation and sales. Not those normal appliances shops like sen heng, onking, etc.

Try this if you are in kv ...

no difference lah. its like whether you like strawberry or chocolate ice cream means nothing to the nasi lemak seller.

the correct question is it using substandard 0.6 or 0.7 thickness pipe, or 0.8 as specced in the aircon installation guide by aircon maker
*
1. Got different lah .. to buy inverter or non.

2. Layman dont need to know technical measurement. .. A or B only.

Hey guys, my current air-con use r22, do i need to change the pipe if i get r32 air-con? thanks.
*
All air cond manufacturer will require you to change, otherwise it void your warranty if there is a claim.

Having said, is up to you to take the risk if you insist to use the existing piping.

Many owners ask this question is because they hestitate to replace the concealed piping ...myself too.

I have 2 outdoor units currently replace with inverter compressor only (Not the complete outdoor unit). Did complete flush of the piping and been using regularly for 3 years. There is no warranty for the compressor.

Wow this is nonsense, changing the concealed piping is big project.
If it is incompatible then i can understand.
What do you mean by not complete outdoor unit?
*
Replace the 'heart' only. Other 'organs' remain.

Wait, you can change to inverter type by just changing the components of the outdoor unit?
*
Yes.

A reliable manufacturer technician did it for my units. I dont buy new air cond now. Just replace organs only.
