It's about 3.5 years since I installed the Panasonic 1.5hp R32 Standard Inverter. I usually diy spray wash the indoor unit annually.

Recently I found the compressor speed will slowed down after 10 mins of usage on hot day, check current 1.8-2A at main switch when it's slowed down. The lower temp and higher blower speed, the more easier to trigger this effect. So today I check the outdoor unit and found the dirt, that was crazy thick just after 3.5 years? I recall my previous old Toshiba only washed once in 15 years and still working good.

Anyway, tried to diy wash the outdoor by spray water and use the Mr. DIY car aircon cleaner spray. I wished to open up the outdoor unit to do proper cleaning as per YouTube videos. Too bad my installer installed the unit right on top with super minimal clearance to the top for opening the top cover, and the side screw was deep inside for me to reach as well.

Some photos of before and after, dirt are still inside the porous, maybe just barely 30% dirt washed off. Will be observing if it improved on hot day.

so what happened?

Mold problems are back on my Daikin. It's the cheapest 2 star one.
After 6 weeks of non-maintenance, mold / jelly hid behind my coils and the back of the drain pan causing it to clog and spill on the opposite side of the drain hole.

I tried to clean it all over all but in the end had to call technician.

How do I remove drain pans for Daikin or see the mold? Or access the coils at the back?

Decided to wash my blower wheels and coils yesterday. Previously I set rhe aircond at 28 degrees and it was cold but after washing it is now hot air at the same setting? Why is this?

Thinking about this further, it used to be set at 28 degrees but the room temperature would go down to 25/26. Does this mean that even though the remote showed 28 it actually didn't set the AC at 28?

when you press on the remote button, got sound from the a/c unit?

also check the operating mode on the remote, make sure it's in the cooling mode, not heating modeĀ  sweat.gif

Only 2 mode on Panasonic remote - 3 modes - Auto, Cool, Dry

Previously remote said 28 degrees.
After I cleaned the AC I set to Dry 22. Then I set back to Cool 28 degrees. Was very hot.
But when I checked today 28 was hot. But I heard last time the AC would go down to 25/26 so maybe the remote said 28 but actually the AC was set at 24/25.
24/25 seems OK. 24 is cooler air than 25. I don't know why.

28deg also cold? Most likely temp sensor isnt working. I also change my ac recently. My old Samsung 1hp inverter would be too cool even at 27C. I also noticed it is using too much power compared to my son newer Samsung 1hp windfree but feeling much colder than my son room which I had set at 26C. Now I changed to a new LG 1hp inverter and indeed 26C felt comfortable, unlike the old Samsung which felt like freezer.

Thank you for replying.

My only guess is that when we changed the remote control temperature, it didn't trigger in the Panasonic AC. So whatever temperature that it was set to previously, probably about 23 to 24 degrees, it never changed to 28 degrees. So we thought at 28 degrees, it was saving electricity but actually it was still at 23-24 degrees.

How do you turn it on? Using wifi? Surely the temp would have registered when you turn it on using remote. Unless your using WiFi to turn it on.
*
No. We use the remote to turn on and off.
This is why.
We have a temperature gauge in the room so can tell that it gets cooler
My suspicion is we set the remote thermostat but it didn't register on the AC unit. So this whole time we thought 28 was very cold and saving electricity but actually not. If only we had WiFi type. Our unit is so basic I can't even install a module.

Also I think cleaning the blower wheel resulted in quicker cooling which is why maybe last time if we had set it at 24 it would take a longer time to cool?

I saw my energy usage dip significantly after cleaning 2ACs in Dec. On 1 Mar I washed the same two and another two and the energy usage is even lower.

What I don't get is why when I changed to this Panasonic in April last year I didn't see significant energy usage savings until I washed these other ACs. I don't even use the Daikin that often

Hi guys which AC is user friendly for DIY cleaning?
Which one easy for cleaning,Inverter vs Non Inverter?
And any extra latest features that need to be considered?
*
Those w removable drain pan to clean.
Midea all easy pro can remove drain and blower wheel to wash.
Non inverter would be sufficient. Inverter has more electricals.
WiFi

Unfortunately I had to replace my Pana 1.5hp R32 standard inverter just barely 4.5 years, due to gas leaking. Last year replaced compressor when I complain not cold, this year January not cold again, pressure dropped then they refill gas and told me not worth to repair, better replace it. March starting not cold then I have to replace it...

Panasonic is really unreliable in my opinion. I had a 1.5hp with all those fancy sensors and this was an old one but so problematic over many years.

I was at Mid Valley today browsing at ACs

I noticed based on energy label (annual use), it's:-
Panasonic 1hp 3 star is 1356kWh
Panasonic 1hp 5 star is 834kWh
Daikin FTKU 1hp 5 star is 814kWh

Is this similar for all brands?
I was reading the energy ratings document and it said calculations are based on 12 hours.

I was doing some calculations today and we really can save with 5 star ACs even though they cost about 40% more upfront. Not sure if installation will also be more.

The energy label on my current ACs:-
Daikin 2015 1hp 2 star - 2739kWH
Daikin 2016 1hp 3 star - 2652kWh
Panasonic 2022 1.5hp 3 star - 1745kWh

I was really shocked to see the energy use difference. My old ACs are using a combined 2000w more per year. Say this equates to about RM900/year. If I buy new

2 x 5 star 1hp @ RM2000 (+installation) = RM4000
2 x 3 star 1hp @RM1600 (+installation) = RM3200
I can only get back my 'savings' after 4 years at least.
By then the warranty is out, etc etc.

I cannot decide what is better - paying TNB blindly or buying new ACs? bangwall.gif

The expensive one is using a a small compressor (can we say a 0.5hp one) on eco mode coupled with oversized ODU/IDU.

The expensive unit:
By weight the ODU is similar to a 1.8-2hp-class ODU.
And the indoor unit at 11kg is one of the heavier ones seen on a 1hp (supposedly two layer fins) and can be considered a 2hp-class IDU.

U can estimate the class of the IDU/ODU by weight vs another mfg e.g. https://www.daikin.com.my/daikin_products/ftkf-series/

In reality the kwh rating of the ST sticker is real life mixed mode usage, so just buy a standard inverter will do.
*
Do we know how they calculate the annual usage or that's just based on their tests that ST approves?

Ok  i am no sure how they  calculate this ...  and dont have info about the formula .and method of calculation .

from the specs  i can tell that  the power cost  will be about  40 %  lower  comparing these models
by looking  the power input spec data .
*
I'm wondering too.
How can you tell from the specs? Do you look at cooling row?

Very helpful
So putting on speed 1 saves a lot.

Yes, I think the power consumption lesser than those non inverter 1.5hp, I frequent see those consuming about 5-6A.

Also the current draw will slowly reducing after cooling down the space. Mine was living room so not obvious..

Will it cause mold to grow in the aircond if there's not enough air coming out of aircond? jelly type
or will the ac develop ice?

Compressor speed would be reducing based on temperature and blower fan speed, the current amperage reduction was due to lower compressor speed as I can hear clearly the outdoor compressor running on lower mode with lower blower speed.
*
Does your AC have eco mode to test that? And dry mode... How much electricity it uses?

Silent mode uses about 3.2A, switch to Dry Mode the compressor seems stopped and no cold air, I never use Dry Mode coz dislike the compressor interval stopping, we like cold breezing air, hehe.
*
Daikin, the Dry Mode doesn't shut off.
Mitsubishi and Panasonic's dry mode shuts off and turns on. The thing about dry mode is that when the AC is off, the air will become hot v fast vs cool mode.

Thanks for this. Eco mode uses a 1A less. Very interesting.

I'm using Eco mode on my Daikin EcoKing FTNP (3 star). Makes me feel better to know that Eco mode really does save.

The daikin ft10lv1l is 2 star and drinks electricity. It definitely uses about 6.5kWh a day.

Hi guys, just want some feedback on installation price,

Plan getting midea all easy pro 2hp install in my condo

Independent contractor:
To install 2HP AC c/w max 10ft copper piping, insulflex, wiring control indoor to outdoor, drainage piping, complete with gas filled up and test running . RM580 (price after he visit my condo)

Shoppe seller install: RM350 (havent incur additional cost hacking etc)

Contemplating about the cost actually
*
Midea All Easy Pro or the new Haier has easy to remove drain pan and roller w 1 screw only function. I think it's the Haier UV Cool Premium.

From what I can see, I feel Midea is less aggressive with the All Easy Pro because installers and service ppl don't like that we can do it ourselves?

Rollers don't need to be cleaned so frequently. I clean my filters once a month and so far the ACs need less servicing. Our service person said if installation is correct, gas top up doesn't need to be done often at all. It's true.

I'm just wondering if washing the compressor makes a big difference to cool air or not.
