Hello everyone. I would like to register a business for the first time, so please forgive me if there are simple things that I misunderstand. I'll try explaining my situation a bit so that you will have a better grasp of it.

I am from Sarawak, and I wanted to register an enterprise, because from what I hear, this is the probably the best way to go for me. As for my business, I am a mobile game developer, and I work alone at home. I went to the LHDN to register my business, but was informed that I needed a tenure agreement to properly register. Since I work at home, and it could be some time before my business even earns anything, I would like to save as much as I can, and for my situation, it doesn't make any sense to spend so much money to rent a shop space which I am not going to use.

I looked around at virtual offices to see if they could be the solution, so far none of them seems to offer tenure agreements, however one did inform me that if I were to register my business anywhere in west Malaysia, they didn't require a tenure agreement. I would like to ask is this true? I've heard from a few that the registration requirements for both east and west Malaysia are slightly different, but I can't really confirm if this is true. If indeed this is true, are we allowed to use home address when registering for a business in west Malaysia? I know that it is not allowed in east Malaysia.

If it is more convenient to register in west Malaysia, I could go over there and register as I am there often as I have direct family members there.

Would appreciate any advice on this matter. Thank you.

Just borrow the address from your direct family members and register at SSM. Over here, we are allowed to use home address as business address.

P/S: I was wondering why you went to LHDN to register your business. Business registrations are made at SSM

May I know the reason that you're so eager to register your business?
Is it to get your name out there? To carry forward losses?

In sabah and Sarawak, LHDN is the most powerful organization that do most of the things you can think of. They can even register all types of business. Do company secretary exist in Sarawak/Sabah? Maybe you register with them...

Regarding the need for tenure agreement. Its news to me. Usually its not a requirement for business registration especially sole proprietorship. I'm talking about my experience in west Malaysia. Personally i think the whole "tenure agreement" requirement is just messed up/dumb/wasteful/Got other better thing in life to do etc... shocking.gif

Btw, I do PC development using UE4. If you want to collaborate let me know thumbup.gif

Thanks tUps! That's great to know! As azhan82 mentioned, over here in Sarawak, most business registrations are handled by LHDN, SSM handles only the large type of business models if I am not wrong.

Haha I am just thinking of making sure that I don't take a wrong step against the law. The worse thing I can think of is if the business did well, and I have yet to register, they might go after me. Or worse still, I need a brand for my game, if I didn't register, it would leave it open to others to register under it and it would be a huge hassle for me to change brands again and such.

azhan82, I am not sure about company secretary here as well sorry. Yup, the tenure agreement is required over here, I am not sure when it was implemented, I think the past few years only. I heard that it was actually implemented to reduce the number of scam companies. I think it is a step in the right direction, just it is still easy to step around, as many scam companies do use an office and make it look fancy nowadays.

Wow UE4 nice! Haha I wish I could, but I am a graphics artist, that just started to learn creating games 2 years back. I am using visual programming, but I am improving my coding and syntax understanding little by little so perhaps one day I might actually be skilled enough to use the more powerful engines.

Again, thank you guys for sharing your advice and information with me! I really do appreciate it!
