QUOTE(feynman @ Jun 10 2015, 07:51 AM) It's a matter of preference. I don't intend to work and live in Spanish-speaking Americas, neither do I care too much about French-speaking Africa. What makes French attractive are places like Quebec, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Romandie. While Spanish is only confined to Spain in Europe.....you can't even live with just Spanish in Barcelona. Sorry for digging out such old post. But this is so true regarding Spanish and Barcelona. Barcelona and their Catalans. Ahh. |

I learn Germany and Japanese. For German I even pass the language proficiency test and possess the certificate while for Japanese, I just learn its basic and pass the test in university.
In term of career, none of them benefits me. I am still jobless fresh graduate and only 2 companies invite me for interview. If I have at least RM 10k for flight ticket, I swear I will work in Germany considering the fact that Germany has so many job vacancies. Too bad I have only RM950 in pocket and will have RM1350 when I got BRIM later. Still not enough to buy ticket to Germany. |

But you will need to have high proficiency in Japanese to apply for those positions. (It applies to any job that requires additional language) Able to say konichiwa and watashino namae wa xxx desu might not be sufficient to land you a job. QUOTE(champlaos11 @ Jan 4 2016, 08:00 AM) Then you should get a part time job for now and earn until you have 10k to buy the ticket. I used to enter preparation program to study in Germany. After passed all requirement tests, just before going there, I was offered all possible courses I can take in Germany. I was so picky that time and I want to study nanotechnology engineering, which is not offered by my sponsor. So I have no choice but to withdraw from the program. I studied at local private university and graduated last years. I believe you can figure out what my university is since I put the keyword "nanotechnology". Back then I dont really know about how real world works and keep thinking Malaysia will be doing fine. May I know why did you learn German in the first place? Too bad there is one moronic leader goes by the name Najib screws up the country, causing the difficulty for fresh graduates to get job. Now I look at Intel/Infineon/Altera entry level jobs at jobstreet, I can see not less than 400 applicants and quite majority of them have experiences. How to get interview when you need to compete with experienced applicants? Seriously if I had "Back to the future" car or Doraemon's time machine, I will go back to the moment before I withdraw to meet "past version of me" at that time. I will slap his face, break his teeth and stomp his penis before I tell him to choose whatever courses in Germany, study there, work there and even try to get permanent residence there. Still jobless until today. By the way, I will try to work at fast food restaurant if I dont get any interviews by the end of January. Seriously, I am very envy, butthurt and salty at Syria refugees that go to Germany. No money, no skills, no need to study high, cannot speak German but can easily live and may even get job there. World is not really fair after all. This post has been edited by prototaip: Jan 4 2016, 02:06 PM |

True. I have also learnt French but have no certifications whatsoever so I have never put it in any resume or CVs before. I think a good way would be to take an exam and get a cert.. Pass also good enough |

I didn't really think much about it being a marketable thing at the time, but I'm glad I took up Japanese language as a hobby / self improvement / time-waster thingy after I started working. Really changed my life But you will need to have high proficiency in Japanese to apply for those positions. I’m born in Vancouver, Canada to a Peranakan family, my native languages are English, Cantonese (a little), and some Malay (no longer used since I was 5).
Canadian-French: But our school force us to learn a second language usually French. So I learned French so I can understand but can’t speak too much nor do I use it often except when reading packaging when English is rubbed off or not available. Japanese: Dated a Japanese-Canadian girl in my uni, and her mom doesn’t speak English almost at all. So I picked up some to understand but I cannot speak well. Never intended to learn the language but I ended up learning enough to understand simple conversations. My Japanese is better than my French. |
