hi. i'm in L'Oreal. What other things you want to ask me?
Yes working environment is good. we have a rather flat org. if you're in sales/marketing, it's very performance based. if you perform you can move up very fast.

Hi pickles, what role r u performing at L'Oreal? I'm interested in knowing the job scope for marketing ie., does it just involve sales? Or do u get to do stuff like brand management, designing advertising n promotions activities etc.? What r the factors tht makes u say the working environment is good?Is it true u get to travel all over the world for marketing? What r the work hours like? And what's starting pay for fresh grad? Aiks, sorry so many questions.... sweat.gif

Hello there,as I know I think there are three main divisions right? Why don't you state which division will you be joining and the specific details of what you really want to know, and I'll get my mom to answer your questions for you since she's been with L`Oreal for the past 15 years or so =)

i'm in merchandising, which is also a subset of marketing as i'm reporting to a marketing manager. the marketing job in loreal is quite operational. as majority of the stuff has been set at the zone level. so most of the time is to execute it. yes of course you'll be doing brand management but at a smaller scale, not so much on the design advertising as most has been set by the zone and all you need is to do a minor tweak and localize, promotion activities i'll assume is on ground activities, yes of course. as a fresh grad, i guess you'll come in as management trainee. and if you want to do marketing, you'll have to go thru a 6 months of sales.

working environment is good as it's a very flat organization. my manager+3 is already the country manager. everything is very dynamic and fast pace. which is a total opposite of US style very structured company like P&G.

yes marketing people tends to travel more. but of course depends what level you're. a product exec of course will only get to travel for smaller scale meeting than a marketing manager. i've been travel a lot since this year. start with bkk, hk, indonesia and singapore for meeting and training.

as working hour people tends to stay quite late. the norm is 10-12 hrs.

the management trainee starting pay is 2.5k

it's not easy to get into loreal. a 4 flat result does not mean anything, it just to get notice and an opportunity for interview. what we really look for is the personality and whether your profile fit in the company. you'll have lots of interview up to the country manager level, so do expect 3-4 interviews.

well i was in MIS, so what i most appreciate is to get to know almost all the employees in the office. know what they do and understand each function in every dept. give me a very clear idea what i want to do in future.

i would say our basic is not as competitive as the industry. however with added value such as the staff purchase, incentive trip, etc etc... it total up to be a very good package.

there's no hard and easy, it just that whether your profile fits our culture. for me i normally reach office around 8.45 and leave around 7 or 8.

Thx for ur prompt reply, pickles!! notworthy.gif How does the sales part work? Is it travelling as part of a sales team to visit hair salons or retailers etc? If so, hopefully can car pool? How about after the 3 months of sales is over - when doing the marketing itself, do u have to travel around a lot? Cuz I can't get my car so soon... cry.gif
