hey all,

i just got a new GPS Receiver. its a ProGin N350 running on SiRF star.

anyways, its using mapking2007 software build 0621 and the maps inside it are in .g10 format and for every .g10 map file it has a .kvt format equilavent.

i tried downloading maps from malsingmaps which are in .g10 format into my SD card for my GPS receiver but i'm still unable to see the maps.

i wanna find out what is the .kvt file?

also, the mapking G10 maps and mapking 2007 maps that i downloaded from mapking.com doesn't seem to be in .g10 format after i've unzipped them.

AFAIK latest Mapking (Mapking 2007) using map with the *.m7a extension. for *.g10 extension was use for the earlier version. So if you download map with the extension *.g10 and wanna use it for Mapking 2007. You just change the extension from *.g10 to *.m7a
*
what i'm confused abt is which version of mapking2007 is mine? issit for the PPC or for PC or etc? bcoz i went to mapking website to download the mapking maps it only has PPC version and PC version to download.

second problem is, i've tried *.m7a maps and it doesn't work. it seems that it can only read *.G10 maps.

3rd problem is, not only do i need the *.G10 maps but i also need a keyword table which is a *.kwt extension else i cannot search for my destination.

i'm able to use the default maps that came with the GPS receiver. it comes with the *.G10 and *.kwt extension.

but i cannot upgrade to newer map versions because i can't get the keyword table file.

this is the gps receiver i have.

Added on May 6, 2008, 4:00 pmi think i manage to find the problem. it seems that 3rd party PND's with embedded mapking are not able to use free maps.

i'll have to purchase a mapking license for my WinCE PND which will enable me to use free maps from malsing or mapking.

hi all,

i've already successfully installed Garmin Mobile XT on my Palm Treo Pro running on WM6.1

but the software somehow can't seem to detect the GPS satelites. i've configure to allow GPS programs to connect via COM port 3. and in my GMXT also i configure it to use COM port 3, but to no avail.

anyone can help? i'm familiar with GMXT on symbian though...1st time using WM6.1

I try to help...hehe...

There are 3 things you need...
1. A working GPS hardware in the phone
2. A GPS software like GARMIN, Agis, etc.
3. An assisted software for downloading the latest satellite positioning.

Without no. 3, it would be very difficult to get a fix. Almost all PDAphone which has a GPS has some sort of no.3 software version.
Some call it enhance GPS. You'll need to GPRS or WIFI to download the latest data into it. From then on, if you on Garmin, satellites can be found much faster...and hopefully it fix.

Try to go a different place to get a fix to the satellites, it must be on a clear day without any roof, trees etc....yeah...the fist time is kinda hard...if you manage to get fix...then it will be easy. Do not move, stay stationary...if after 20min also no fix...then something is wrong.

Also, try a different software from GarminXT...there are a few out there.

You can also download GPSgate for better port splitting...but this is not necessary.

If still cannot, remove the leather case, rear cover and make sure you are using original battery...most gps hardware are behind the handphone....

Still can't get a signal...try google around for your model. Each model has its own quirks with gps

hope it helps.....i'm also trying to configure an omnia to fix unto  signal...good luck bro...

1. check, the palm treo pro comes with an internal gps.
2. check, i have GMXT installed version 500.20
3. check, the phone comes with this software called QuickGPS which actually downloads the position to get a quicker fix. something like aGPS.

i've check xda-devlopers and some say the phone's aGPS has been disabled in the registry. will check on that

1. Internal GPS needs to work...
2. Yup...thats the latest, but if it doesn't work....dun give up...try something else...
3. Yup, mine HTC also has QuickGPS...I does help alot...but only download if you are running short of satellites or usually overseas or outstation. If you are usually at the same place, no need to waste GPRS money...unless you are in a free wifi zone:)

Please give some reply after you check it out at XDA developers.
