I've downloaded, it works, does not look like McLaren so much, so F1 fans who don't support McLaren can rename the file (to forceindia, or Toyota etc) and use it.
In real time, can't see the F1 too clearly, if it was a red ferrari even worst due to the 'pink' route. For what its worth, I prefer the original blue car instead.

Dun forget abt the custom POI abt the speedtrap etc. from mfm.

afaik, my HTC diamond rocks with GPS, while I setup my friends Samsung Omnia, seems like totally cannot fix to any satellites, very frustating....if dun believe, try google around.
If you want a PDAphone GPS...HTC is the way to go.

I'm not sure abt AGPS or anything like that. But what I know is this. I try to make it simple.

Almost all PDAphone that come with GPS doesn't have a mapping software (ex. garminxt, mapking, Agis etc).
You have to install it yourself. But depend on package, some have the software but you need to install and activate it yourself.

What the PDAphone provide is a means of connecting to the GPS satellites.
And to connect to a satellite is not an easy thing.
Then comes the software that provides assistance in the satellite positioning so that you can fix faster.
You need to do this only once a while....no need to use 3G or stuff like that. Download it free at a Wifi hotspot.
If you are GPS in the same area, then downloading this data once only, cause most of the time got half a dozen satellites hanging around. But if you do go overseas or outstation, then you need to download the data if the satellites cannot be found.

There is no charge for using GPS. The only charges are getting a legal Mapping software and downloading data once a while to assist the satellite fix faster (which can be done free at a hotspot). If you oledi got many satellited fix on you, you don't have to download those data at all. But I think one time is compulsory.

I think that one is something like google map...yes, it does need to have a connection.
And I dun think it will be accurate at all...I think the very first Nokia with so called GPS were using those.

Take it from me, if your PDAphone dun have gps capability, use a bluetooth GPS module.

Using Satellites for navigation is the way to go.

Well, to be frank bro, even with the satellite version you do tend to miss a turn on a highway, or packed city streets!
Satellite not so fast positioning, probably lag for 2~3 seconds....yup, 2~3 seconds going at 100km/h you are sure to miss a turn if not aware.
Especially when the highway has multiple turns.
Most of the time you have to slow down a bit if you don't know the roads.

Anyway, GPS is a great tool to have, so going to an unknown place you are 50/50 unsure to reach the destination, using GPS you are maybe 99% sure to reach the place.

However, take note, depending on the setting of the software, most of the time, the GPS dunno if that area is jammed or many slow traffic lights, etc..it usually will tell you to follow the main road instead on the backlanes.

If thats the case, than I'm sure the Telco version is far worst.

There are 3 things you need...
1. A working GPS hardware in the phone
2. A GPS software like GARMIN, Agis, etc.
3. An assisted software for downloading the latest satellite positioning.

Without no. 3, it would be very difficult to get a fix. Almost all PDAphone which has a GPS has some sort of no.3 software version.
Some call it enhance GPS. You'll need to GPRS or WIFI to download the latest data into it. From then on, if you on Garmin, satellites can be found much faster...and hopefully it fix.

Try to go a different place to get a fix to the satellites, it must be on a clear day without any roof, trees etc....yeah...the fist time is kinda hard...if you manage to get fix...then it will be easy. Do not move, stay stationary...if after 20min also no fix...then something is wrong.

Also, try a different software from GarminXT...there are a few out there.

You can also download GPSgate for better port splitting...but this is not necessary.

If still cannot, remove the leather case, rear cover and make sure you are using original battery...most gps hardware are behind the handphone....

Still can't get a signal...try google around for your model. Each model has its own quirks with gps

2. Yup...thats the latest, but if it doesn't work....dun give up...try something else...
3. Yup, mine HTC also has QuickGPS...I does help alot...but only download if you are running short of satellites or usually overseas or outstation. If you are usually at the same place, no need to waste GPRS money...unless you are in a free wifi zone:)

Please give some reply after you check it out at XDA developers.

to answer that question.....did you buy the set new or 2nd hand?
If new probably it will work is 95%. If 2nd....well...you know how things are these days..
Thats one of the reason ppl. still buy stand alone garmin sets instead of rely on the pdaphone.


ALso, you can try the basic of basics....google maps with GPS. Try using auto and manual settings. If it does work means your GPS hardware is working.

Regarding the ports, its usually Port 3 if you set it up at the 'external GPS' program in the settings. But if you use GPSgate for port splitting its usually Port 7. Most of the time garminxt will search for serial automatically.

huh...reinstall and worked?....which program did he reinstall?....share your experience please....I'm trying my best to program my friends Omnia to work without success.

I'm using the Nav agis that comes with the omnia (SG set)...so far no success, tried using Port Splitter and Mapking (3 day Trial) also no success.....maybe the GPS is broken
Internal GPS detected and using enhance GPS, but still no fix to any satellites.

hmm...I'm investigating my friends Omnia that changes time everyday....no its no Sync issue.

Was wondering abt what you said regarding Time Zone....I really can't find any Time Zone in GarminXT settings..please help
