one of the reason ppl go for holux 236 is it uses the same battery as some nokia model. easy to find replacement

some dopods got problem with gpsproxy so better use gpsgate, but for the rest the free gpsproxy is more than enough IMO

you can't detect the presence of speed trap sensor but you can get alert whenever you approach known speed trap points. that's quite usable too.

how often use gps? for me i use it whenever i'm not confident of finding the place.

you can check out holux model also. can get new one <<300 if u know how to find (like lelong.com)

for internal gpsr u can use mapking or garmin que with gpsgate or gpsproxy

don't expose it under the sun all day. u don't need it that much anyway. normally if the sun is too hot, i'll put it under the the shadow of the a-pillar.

i'm using holux 236B (sirfIII chipset) for the past yr. so far so good. the newer models are M-1000 & M-1200, with MTK chipset also good (some say got better reception)

5 minutes seems too slow. my htc p3300 with internal gpsr can lock in 1 min or so. i think it uses the same chipset (sirfstarIII) right?. actually u don't need gpsgate to run mapking. mapking can detect the internal gpsr automatically. u need gpsgate to run garmin que coz it couldn't detect gpsr other than garmin's

never heard marbela before. for use in malaysia it's advisable to use garmin

sometimes must use logic also if u think yr direction is better than gps suggestion. unless u are totally new to that area
