Hey guys im planning to buy a GPS system for my dad for his birthday? Anywhere to get near PJ (or KL if no choice) and wat brand and model recommended?
*
I would suggest a standalone GPS device like Garmin Nuvi series since you only need to install the map only and it was a straight forward device.

Hi guys. I'm newbie here. I've old pda Ipaq h2210 that lying around for years without any good usage. Well, recently I got myself a bluetooth
GPS receiver so that my Ipaq won't be useless. I bought I-blue 737 with 54 satellite tracking. I'm actually happy with my purchase. I now can go anywhere I want without getting lost. Also, I found some new road to use. tongue.gif

Right now, I'm using Mapkings and Garmin XT install inside my Ipaq h2210. Both are great. But I think Mapking is easier to use but not easily configured for routing. What you guys think?

As for myself, I choose garmin base device/software because I can use my own map on it. Since using Garmin you can draw and compile your own map on-line at Mapcenter. But when compare Mobile XT and Mapking, i will always choose Mobile XT since already familiar with their syatem since Garmin Que era... tongue.gif

If you are in KL, you can go to Digital Mall or if you are in Seremban you can go to Starlite Tech. Other than this 2 place you can try looking at the website like M3GPS.

wow, thanks for your answer. But somehow I think the reception with Mobile XT is worse than
Mapking. I wonder why software in PDA can affect GPS reception? Any idea?

a) Also, the Mapking will recalculate/reroute very fast if go to wrong way. XT do it after few second.
b) Mapking speed calculation is spot on. Same with my odometer. XT speed is slower than my odometer.
c) Mapking warn u about your speed. But XT just keep quiet.

But I think XT calculation/routing is better than mapking. Not sure why. Maybe Mobile XT map better.
Also, I think Mobile XT map is more detailed?

maybe you should install both mapking and garmin mobile xt like me. And compare their routing.
I think mobile xt routing is more intelligent tongue.gif

To me reception for both are the same since I'm using the same GPS device for both application. For recalculation, Mapking detect wrong route a bit faster than MXT. For speedometer, there is a lot of other thing affected cause differences speed between GPS application and vehicle speedometer.

And for map details, Garmin map more details if you are using free maps from MSM or MFM but if you are using original Garmin map, I think Mapking will be more details than original Garmin map.

AFAIK your GPS have built-in GPS chip and for using Mobile XT you need to buy the software from certified Garmin dealer. So, it much more easier if you go back to the shop where you buy the software and ask the how to rectify your problem.

I think that was not software problem but it was more on map details problem. You can have the best GPS device for road navigation in the world but if you don't have map for that particular area then it become useless. So it is better to check the map details for area you are planning to go before you feel regret when you arrive there.

Since your phone have built-in GPS, you need to buy the Mobile XT software. For free Mobile XT software it will look for Garmin Mobile 10x.

I just googling around MSM and didn't find any guidance for Omnia user using Garmin Que + GPS Proxy. I guess you need to do some homework by testing all the available port. Just make sure you install both application (Garmin Que and GPS Proxy) first. Then you try to get satellite fix from Proxy before connecting the software to Garmin Que.

If you have any problem after trying it, you can drop you Q here and we see what we can do with the help from other user. Anyway, have you try asking this Q in the Omnia forum?

Hardware port for omnia is Com 3. Try using this for the proxy settings.
i use garminxt which will automatically detect the gps port, without needing to use a proxy.
For proxy you will have to set it manually.

for newbie users, garmin que is by far the most complicated to install compared to garminXT n mapking. tongue.gif
perhaps you could visit malsing.com n read the installation guide.
