I have never use Garmin original map but among those 2 the most famous free GPS maps for malaysia. I can say for Perlis, Penang, Kedah and Perak, Selangor and KL you can use MFM. For Melaka, N. Sembilan, Johor, Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei you can use MSM. For Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu, I think more less they are the same. But for more comprehensive maps for Johor and Singapore you can try Jerome own version map but you need to give a donation.

Thanks for the recommendation bro! But another newbie question....is it possible that we can keep more than 1 map (example both MFM & MSM) in our phone and switch between each other manually when we require it? Since from what I know s/w like Garmin XT loads map with the filename gmapsupp.img. Or can we rename the maps into different names such as gmapsupp.img, gmapsupp_2.img etc and choose which 1 to load later?

yes u can switch map manually when needed on mapking not too sure bout garmin

Normally what I do was I keep separate GMAPSUPP file from both source in other folder. When i want to use it I just copy it to Garmin folder. This method can be apply for PDA user...

can list down the map version that u goona load into your phone? i dont think 2 maps are necessary la.

i got problem on my Garmin XT after flash my kaiser to WM6.1... it run smmothly on WM6

my problem is sometimes it occur error for que.exe when i using it to navigate me.. i've try to uninstall the GXT and clear all the file on my Storage Card and fresh install new one... but the error still occur...

just need to get advise whether i should HardReset my kaiser or flash back my Kaiser to WM6..

Well, there might be a time where I need to change maps...? (Probably) Since Deani_77 said that MFM and MSM each has their own pros so I guess by having 2 maps means having the best of both worlds

What type of error you get eg. program stop working or hanging. Any error message?

As for now, there is 2 site offered free map. Malsingmaps.com and Malfreemaps.com. You can be a member to both site or either one. The instruction for installing their map can be found at their site.

At current you need to contribute something like POI or GPS track in order to get the unlock code for the locked map. But according to the latest announcement from the site owner, there is no unlock code require for next map release.

No need for you to get extra hardware. But you need to get the original Mobile XT software (selling with SD card) in order to use it with internal GPS

Hey guys im planning to buy a GPS system for my dad for his birthday? Anywhere to get near PJ (or KL if no choice) and wat brand and model recommended?

it detected the gps port which is port 4 but i'm not sure how to get the satellite fix....
