Old number. It was XPAX prepaid before I changed, also got problem like that before I managed to stop it. Few years after that, change to Basic 38 in the second month it started appearing and months onward more spam is subscribed to me. Still using DiGi and Umobile prepaid, no such problem. My Maxis postpaid before also no problem, only with Celcom.
This one time I was playing a game and then an ad pops up, when I tried to dismiss it, it closes and suddenly received a message says I'm subscribed to the service. If I was not mistaken I did a search on that company and turns out it is either a subsidiary of Celcom Axiata or an affiliate. So that's how bad Celcom is.
To answer your question,if other phone using same network is okay, then maybe phone or sim problem. If that happens, take out the sim and use it in another phone, if it's fine then probably phone problem and vice versa.
