So the new Kia Cerato was launched in Detroit today. When will it arrive in Malaysia?

All New Cerato BD won't arrive to Malaysia until 2020.

I thought they were targeting August 2019? Why the delay?

Latest news is that it might come in by 4th quarter at earliest, but subject to government approval on pricing. The present government has not act speedily on price approval and many car manufacturers have to push back their new model launches to later dates. Kia Malaysia is not spared and is still waiting for 3 new variants that they plan to introduce since late last year. Therefore, it is quite difficult to predict exact date for new model launches.

Thanks for the insights.

Ah I hope Kia Malaysia brings the GT here, especially sedan. If they do, I'll be first in line to book it.

1.6 MPI Engine , sedan version is confirmed, it will be be launched sometime by 4th quarter this year, at earliest. We won't get the GT-line leafback/hatchback here, unfortunately.

GT-Line is just a styling difference. We will be getting the GT right? The 1.6 T-GDI with the DCT.

I’m thinking they might because it’ll be like the Elantra Sport that was brought in as CKD. Just don’t know how long after the normal specs are launched. The body is essentially the same, just engine and transmission different with some styling changes. Unfortunately the Elantra is the previous gen styling that has been around for so many years, but the Cerato is all new. If they can price it as close to the top spec Civic as possible then it may have a chance to be successful, especially if they’re willing to throw in all the bells and whistles such at Adaptive Cruise Control that the US spec has. I’m hoping.

Yeah. I've been waiting for more than a year now since Korea launched. Still hoping they'll bring in the proper GT version with the 1.6 turbo, and not some GT-Line which is just aesthetics. Still don't understand why Malaysians like looks more than actual powertrain.
