P.S. Last year, maybe luck, but I received "back door" gift of a stack of past editions of KLAV cd..their excess stock they wanna get rid of...now I have multiple sealed copies of past editions in my collection, one day in future, they may become very precious.. rclxms.gif I believe these albums are pressed in one production run for the show and not re-issued.

Maybe if you try to go on Sunday last minute, might have fire sale. Other than that, price is already competitive. Really don't think it will be cheaper than outside.

With GST, I'm reckoning prices will be up from before. Some known shops have already just slammed GST on top of the price seen. Its not any cheaper and like just add 6% to any previous prices.

That's just price gouging, this are the type of vendors which you should avoid. Before this they had sales of 10% which factored into the cost, now they slapped another 6?

Doesn't help that merchants are suppose to also display prices inclusive of GST, not excluding if you follow the GST provisions.

Normal series already talking of hundred, hundred K whistling.gif
That array speakers I think close to M, but I never bother to ask, since it is not suitable for my terrace house.
Getting the right speaker are very hard, what you listen from show room that are treated won't same to you room(if not treated). I still remember when I first bought my rm1300 HT system, listening in the show room very good, but once it reaches my house, using the same movie also can't yield the same result sweat.gif

Snake oil or not, it has always been a willing buyer and willing seller basis.

Spending RM13,999 on a AK380 is not purely on how good it sound compared with the rest. It is simply I can afford to splurge on the difference, no matter how small compared with other players brows.gif

A Ferrari can only do 110km/h on the highway so can the Myvi sweat.gif

1. during AV fest, you have to expect rooms to be treated to bring out the best they can......resellers rent the room...therefore they too need to cover cost by selling their system....anyone willing to donate a room for free demo?

2. if the system performed poorly in the room, don't think you will buy...am i right?

3. knowing the fact that room acoustics do play up 50% of the sound whether its at the showroom or at home......if you buy a system after audition in a proper acoustic room, then you setup the new setup in your living hall without proper acoustics....blame the equipment and seller???
yeah bloody snake oil ain't it

4. during the fest, the systems are properly run in and warmed up......when you buy BINB, don't expect to sound the same.....

5. every reseller will demo their most profitable system and margins....if i were to make a living out of this....i would demo something i make the most.... who's in business to lose money??? You??? This AV Fest is to demo the latest HT and sound systems by businesses......this is not a forum gathering NGO....this is reality right?

6. if you plan to buy something......check pricing everywhere....this is 101....

7. in the room, there are other things you need to vary off....curtains, softer finishing walls, carpets....then room tuning, cabling, power banks....and lots of other secrets...

my system at home went to a different level after shifting the system from the hall into a proper dimension room with minimal acoustic treatment....
same system in different room....you can't imagine the change

haters gonna say snake oil

1. USD vs MYR as we all know...is in a bad situation.....the big boys needs to clear stock, therefore its a matter of how you nego your deal....prices going up not because of GST but because forex.....i was surprised with the Musical Paradise MK501 price...used to be 4k++ and then due to forex, it shot up to 6k. This is based on direct online purchase price.

2. i usually buy smallish stuffs during fest....like CDs....some hifi accessories for the fun of it....like power sockets, tuning fuses and etc just to test out whether it has impact to sound.....
now....if you are really shopping for hifi or AV....the difference could be the installation cost....unless you know DIY.....
if you install ceiling mount projector...can you DIY the bracket?

3. do not rush into buying....hifi is a journey....not a short term game

The strong USD is a big impact. MYR already lost about 17% of its value since 4Q last year.

My heart drops whenever the exchange rate drop. Making our money not worth a lot. Have to exchange and keep our money in other currency like GBP or USD. Or we can buy in Euro to keep for now.

Susah...

Now go Cambodia also heart pain, as they use USD daily.

As a flagship planar headphone, actually it is much lighter than Audeze and Abyss. smile.gif
HiFiMAN HE-1000 480g
Audeze LCD-3 550g
Abyss 1266 660g cry.gif

Oppo PM-3 should be the lightest planar headphone. Only 320g. But it is a portable headphone lah. smile.gif
Full size wise, HiFiMAN HE-400i should be the lightest, 370g.
HiFiMAN HE-560 375g
Oppo PM-2 385g
Oppo PM-3 395g

Audeze LCD series, more than 500g
Audeze EL-8 480g (same with HE-1000, but the ear cups are much smaller)

Snake oil or not, it has always been a willing buyer and willing seller basis.

Spending RM13,999 on a AK380 is not purely on how good it sound compared with the rest.  It is simply I can afford to splurge on the difference, no matter how small compared with other players  brows.gif

A Ferrari can only do 110km/h on the highway so can the Myvi  sweat.gif
*
Aha... Bringing in car analogy, yeah a lot of people say Myvi can do this and that especially in traffic jam conditions. But a lot of people do not realise how fast the Ferrari gets up to 110km/hr and how it can still maintain very stable 110km/hr speed in a sharp corner.

Ok, I digress...

It's gonna be my 1st time visit to this event. Got a walk through how it going to be? Got admission fee? Per entry or multiple entry? Daily fee or 1 time fee for the duration of the 3 days event?
3days event. Each vendor having 1 hotel room to setup their showcase.
All room doors open wide during the event. Ppl travelling 1 room to 1 room?

If one is not doing 'critical' listening can go through the whole event in 2 hours time?

Just wanna hv a rough idea.

They force you to go all the way up and come down one floor at a time. There is no exit. Only when you finish looking into all the rooms, will they let you out

After you leave, you wont need any audio equipment cause you cant hear anymore

Usual layout is like this

1. Entrance : Usually home theater related show casing new TV's , projectors, home surround system, etc

2. Take the lift and go the highest floor

3. From the lift you're at the centre, can go either left or right. This is where there some variety though there some notorious vendors who just interested in blasting their subwoofers in a hotel room, and then there are karaoke setups, some more slightly unusual setups also appear on this floor.

4. Go down 1-2 floors with the same concept but less karaoke/HT setups and gets more serious with the big guns coming out (CMY, A&L, etc)

5. Go down further until you reach the floor with mainly ballrooms/meeting rooms, usually this is where vendors from the audio scene showcase some of the flagships they carry (last year Mcintosh (with mid bass EQ boost preset) + Focal Utopia's (or was it Electras) playing Overture 1812 with cannons. A&L had the Dali/Opera Callas speakers with the legendary DCS Vivaldi setup, Jaben also had a room of their own.

CMY with another room selling their goods at a discounted price & same location for the past 2 years selling their power conditioners. Interesting if you're into new/old Vinyls, rare CD recordings.

That's how I remembered them tongue.gif

Quite spot on. Is cmy and a&l considered the big guns? I feel they are usually there cramming their rooms full of stuff. I remember seeiing a whole row of mission speakers one year in their rooms. At least they had more rooms than Jaben i guess, i think Jaben in one year ĺhad 2 rooms linked up.

I think the ones that are actually worth a watch or a listen. Are those that only bring 1 single system into the tiny hotel room to showcase their brand or capabilities. Those that don't even meddle with the wall plugs in the room are sorta half hearted attempts.

Not to say not worth the time. But i guess most of us would not even contemplate to walk into those serious shops to ask for an audition of their top end products on any normal day. KLIAV is one of those days we can do that.

Entry fee? Bah. Even the parking at golden triangle is more expensive than the entry fee.

I will take LRT from Kelana Jaya to KLCC (normal fare RM2.40, me warga emas at half rate), then go by the air-conditioned pedestrian walkway to Pavilion, and another short walk to hop over to JW Marriott. Another RM10 for the entrance fees.

Money saved from driving and parking will be spent on a nice lunch and beer at the terrace cafe, and to rest my poor aging limbs.

Burn-in day and night to release their potential.

MA Recording is joining as usual. Bought their CDs last year, recording quality is amazing! Plan to grab a few this year also.

My favourite J.S.Bach's work, 6 Suites for Cello Solo. (Any classical fans here?)
It's only a 16 bit/44.1k CD, but recording format is 5.6mHz one point DSD.

Basically Sonus Faber are taking raw drivers from Vifa for certain line ups. But it is modified version on the speaker's specs. Just like Alpine's F#1 series speakers that are using Scanspeak, but with certain speaker are different.
This is how a brand can do. A China brand raw driver with pretty good specs nobody will bother to see it but being rebrand to another brand, it can be sold like a hot cake laugh.gif

That's other countries prefer DIY, as it will be more interesting and the result are better most of the time.

Malaysians cannot DIY to safe their life, I know so many who call the plumber just to change washer in their taps.

*
What you say is true.

AFAIC, my ears told me a different story. I was more impressed with the Sonus Faber presentation than Vifa's or anyone else for that matter. Yes yes, it has to do with other things as well. There's no 1:1 comparison in an exhibition.

Not my problem if Vifa didn't present their products properly, it's called an exhibition for a reason.

Sorry forgot not in /k.

But I do stand by my comment about Malaysian's and DIY. Here we have a consumer culture where we all are used to buying ready made products. Hence you don't see as many Malaysian innovations as we would like to see. I do feel other country the population is encourage to tinker around, this is true in the west and more so in America.

Also the dreaded Malaysian attitude of preferring international brands compared to domestic brands.

Anyway this is out of topic.

Not sure about snake oil but you should go to keep tabs.

I for one used to think power cables is snake oil until I was in China recently and DIY myself a power cable for my amp. The results of that was a whole new better sound.

Well, a ferrite core you can get in Jalan Pasar for rm5-10.
A nice power cable that having enough of strands for rm1-2 per M.
Heat shrink tubing for rm0.50-3 depending on the lenght.
Techflex for rm2-5 per M(now more expensive since USD strong).
But in the snake oil show for the same stuff that you DIY for the most rm50-100, they are selling for rm2000 shocking.gif
http://www.visaton.com/en/bauvorschlaege/s..._170/index.html
Still remember a year during the show, the seller are selling the above for rm100k whistling.gif
But the raw driver he got in Seremban for rm1000 a pair. At that time, a 4*8ft MDF only cost rm110 which can make about 5 of them. So you do the maths whistling.gif
My jaws dropped basically rclxub.gif

Just back from KLIAV.... Interesting show... with some dissapointed as Focal and Mcintosh already disvorced. Either one are not impressed by itself.

Here is what I learn from the show;

(1) Most setup are actually dissapointing even they have very high price tag. Only few are worth paying attention.
(2) Senheiser HD800 is a must buy headphone... The sound is so airy and so engaging... I will get it. Just matter of time.
(3) AK380 has lots and lots of details... Sometime I wonder if it is natural....
(4) Oppo HA-1 is dissapointing as compare to its price. Bass has no separation details, blurry and high freq is not airy. Tested with few headphones, same..
(5) Oppo PM-1 high price tag is a joke... Lost to a simple HD650 that cost 1/3 of the price.
(6) MA Silver 8 is a very very good speaker for its price. It should be the best speaker under RM10k
(7) Wharfedale Opus-II is impressive with it super wide sound stage. Super airy high freq sound + very controlled and low freq. It will create a big problem... With similar price, Go for Opus-II for its super wide sound stage, or Focal Electra for its realistic sound??? Will be very headache making decision.

Sometimes I wished they placed the HT + Karaoke folks into a dedicated floor instead of mixing them with hifi folks.

Was at the room where Chord were exhibiting their new DACs and Dave and to my surprised John Frank and Rob Watts were there I believe & Swedish Statement were exhibiting nearby as well. Out of the sudden I could hear the room rumbling as a effect from the room opposite/next door from the excessive subwoofer blasting as if they're competing who could produce the loudest resonance.

Not once but multiple times.

No Hifiman for me...

Below RM5k that is okay... Cannot remember there. But you can try either MA Silver 6 or KEF Q700/Q900.

for a simple-minded person like me, the RM10.60 is well spent!
can't afford any serious systems, so if I were to just walk in to any retailer on a normal day and ask for an audition, it would be so weird, not to mention all the travelling costs!
on the other hand, once a year, at a central place, *nearly* everyone in the local hifi/av industry comes to show the latest that they have, some giving some deals too.
what a different atmosphere!

I enjoyed the earphone/iem booths, powered simply with my phone and Spotify.
I enjoyed the countless Transformers Atmos demos, but wished some of the displays was also properly setup too.
I enjoyed the Epos, HiFi Creations, PMC, Sonus Faber and many other brands that my simple mind cannot remember or afford.

I had a good time, and I wish the same to all other visitors. Have fun!

Good say... The most disappointed is the Focal. Last time got Utopia really super impressive... Now just showing Sopra, which the bass fail to impress as fail to cover the ball room with crowd noise. Some more it seems without Mcintosh like downgraded sound... The speaker cable there also seems so slim as compare to normal Mcintosh setup.

While Mcintosh this time showing their speaker.... The result is like... Why bother to show?

You forgot last year Audio Perfectionist had the EQ preset setting adjusted on the Mcintosh to give that that extra kick the the mid bass, was +6db if I recall to give that 1812 overture a shocking sound.

it just means there is something for everyone. different strokes for different folks.
similarly I never tried out any of the portable audio players (Fiio, AK etc) as I have zero interest in it, but I think it's great for enthusiasts to check it out with other like-minded folk. thumbup.gif

Just come back from the show, not all the booth I visited, few only, basically to survey affordable speaker system, but stunned by the price for really really impressive setup

So, first I visited E1 personal Audio, just want trying AK240, AK380 and Angie

Attached Image

Quite impressive with AK380, I think this should be the real sound for AK series, testing AK240ss at the same time, but sound wise I will choose AK380 except I dont have the budget to buy . sweat.gif

After that, I went to Starspicker, testing HE1000, really good sound. I tested HD800 (balanced) + HDVD800, hmmm, not my taste. Tested HD700 + Lafigaro amp, at the same time with HD600, cant tell the difference, only noticable point is the treble, where HD600 is more to soft side.

Skipping my lunch, continuing to speaker setup settings, too many option and didnt do my "hifi homework" before going, so just go in and feel the sound. (the turntable really nice looking thumbup.gif )
