QUOTE(dayojah @ Apr 5 2020, 01:45 PM) Unfortunately I suppose there won't be a show this year after the MCO? That is correct. They have canceled the show but have left the door open to hosting a show at the end of the year situation permitting.

QUOTE(dayojah @ Jun 9 2020, 01:48 PM) Any update on this, obviously you need the borders open again before exhibitors can come in? No updates as far as I can tell but there is likelihood of 2 competing shows next year. One by a new comer and the other organised by the usual suspect. What will the economic situation look like and how many dealers will want to participate is an issue they will have to deal with as well as attendance. The perception is there is not enough high end brands being exhibited but most don’t realise if there is no local agent and our market is so tiny that you cannot expect high end brands to just fly in here to participate. The main exhibitions will still be in Munich and China/HK. That’s where the money is.

The local market is not big enough for two shows, it will be tough getting one good show next year. I would argue that there was too much high end and not enough mid range equipment - Rega, Elac, Q Acoustics etc Not many people in Malaysia with Singapore spending power and I cannot see local billionaires shuffling around the Vistana.

You are right on 2 factors. The market cannot sustain 2 shows a year simply because the dealers will have to pick either or given budget and logistic limitations especially in our current economic situation. The other being yes Vistana is a horrible location. The possibility of the show being hosted there again is likely and would be disastrous. The current show needs far more exposure. Many are not aware there is a show and it end's up being the same old characters haunting the show floors every year. It's almost like a gathering of old friends for many rather than anything else. Same old people, why is there a need to exhibit, after all these people visit the dealers almost weekly so there is no motivation to exhibit except as a venue for lelong deadstock. Doesn't help there is a bias perception among many.

People will inevitably go, but not many people would spend big bucks there. Most of the time people go to hangout with friends, meet old colleagues, supporting friends' businesses, etc. What sells, from what I see only, are the general electrics and accessories like cables in the sellers' area. Also noticed a lot of people going on the last day a few hours before closing to see if got prices slashes but not a lot of people holding shopping bags. Some of the venue rooms doesn't offer good acoustics too which is a shame.

The Vistana was a horrible venue, poor car parking in the area and very narrow corridors.

Imagine that, the organizer never had forward thinking enough to anticipate such issues when they decided to host it there. I guess the mentality is since it's the only one they can offer what they want and people will come.

QUOTE(dayojah @ Sep 12 2020, 07:48 PM) No way that anything can happen this year now and well into next year either. This year for sure zero..both organizers are gunning for next year. The one show I am not sure will happen since at the moment is all talk. The old organizer has to get his act together if he wants to have a show ie. location etc. I suspect the current show is on it's last legs especially if next year the show does not happen.

QUOTE(dayojah @ May 5 2021, 08:28 PM) Zero chance this year now, will we ever see a show here again? Not a chance if big shows like CES, ISE, NAMM and Computex are not held.
