Not sure why I have not seen much jobs on jobstreet from IB stating CFA as a requirement.

Do they not advertise jobs that require CFA on jobstreet?
*
i think it's because those coverted jobs in IB are usually obtained by contacts and not advertised. lol

Hi, the entry requirement for cfa must be at least final year of a degree... what if I'm an ACCA student? Does it means I can take cfa during part 2 of my acca?
*
use your obu degree

I dont know, didnt ask him but the system allowed him to enrol for level 2.

better confirm with cfa insitute about it. imagine passing all 3 levels and cfa refuse to award him the charter in the future.

- FTMS Malaysia not offering classes for the CFA exam.
- Kasturi's classes for the CFA program are always crowded. Hard to get the chance to ask questions. Not sure if their Sunway branch faces the same case.
- Sunway Uni is new in this. Heard the hours offered are short (more like a crash course)
- Noesis has a small class (abt 25 students per class), experienced lecturers, higher passing rate and of course, good support from the management team. They provide career placement services as well. Fees are the highest of course but worth every penny.

If you don't mind an overcrowded class and have budget constraints, go for Kasturi. Don't have much knowledge on their lecturers, so can't comment.

If you want a fast-paced course, go for Sunway. Avoid if you absorb things slow.

I'd recommend Noesis but it's a biased opinion. The classes fully prepared me for my Level 1 exam (plenty of mock exams, lecturers' support, and the small group synergy)

Disclaimer: I'm a student of Noesis. Currently studying for the Level 2 exam here. No regrets.

mind sharing with us the results of the career placement service in noesis? as in where this people get placed into and how many?

For my batch (back in level 1), 1 of my coursemates (hi, u reading this?? Haha) was offered PE but he didnt take up the offer.

I dont have actual figures but students after Level 2, are in CF (at IBs) or Equity research at fund management houses. Opportunities come to you once you've passed Level 2, even more after Level 3 (assuming you have a good & professional attitude in work)

If you are interested to know more, you can contact them. I'm just preparing well for Level 2 and make the switch after L2.

Are you still in the program?
*
I'm actually a fresh grad and just passed my cfa level 1. Planning to take cfa level 2 but dunno where yet.

anyway, when u say students after level 2 ar ein equity research, do u mean they got offered through noessis or is it because they get the jobs themselves directly?

Sorry for the silly questions, but i really want to get into equity research smile.gif

They will help you get the interview, but whether you get the job or not depends entirely on yourself. Some got the job offers themselves, some through Noesis. Their career services just near the end of last year. Why don't you try applying for an analyst role at Public Mutual?

Better do your Level 2 and don't stay jobless too long. smile.gif

*
icic. i did actually apply for public mutual but end up in a limbo (ie. not sure whether they still want me) when offered as I have a personal problem to attend to and I guess it can only be resolved earliest by december. do u think staying jobless for half a year after graduation would adversely affect my resume when I apply for other jobs?

Hey cheekymonkey,

They only cap the number of students per class at 25, so better register before the place is all taken up.

Btw, if you get >70 in all subject areas, your next level classes are free. I'm studying Level 2 for free now at Noesis (work hard, it's achievable), just have to pay for my exam fees.

You can pm me if you've joined Noesis.  It'll be weird going around asking, "Hey, are you cheekymonkey?" @.@
*
wow, noesis also got this system whereby ur tuition fees for the next level is waived if u get above 70% in all areas examined?

I concur with what Justin said. When people mention about Corporate Finance, most of the case they are referring to the so-called "Execution" teams which carry on paper proposals and submission to the authorities such as the SC, Bursa and Bank Negara. To prevent any misleading or obmission of information being submitted to the authorities, proper due diligence is required, and staffs in CF are expected to equip with audit experience as the nature of work is compliance based. I can conclude to say "Execution" team is tend to be more accounting and auditing oriented.

There is another team in corporate finance is the marketing team or the so-called "Origination" team which job scope is to meet clients, provide corporate advisory and structure transaction deal according to the needs of the clients. For my opinion, this is more challenging as staffs will be required to structure specific of transactions and proposals and a lot of presentation of power point and excel modelling require. Knowledge learn from the CFA and MBA would help a lot in this job scope.

By the way, I think CFA is not well-recognised in Malaysia. I hope 1 day the SC will exempt those who pass CFA level 3 from taking the CMSA module 12, then it could in directly promote the CFA tongue.gif .
*
lol. somehow, i actually feel the knowledge from level 1 is quite equal to the module 12 already.

Studying only on weekends from Jan? How many hours can you put in per weekend? About 20 weeks only to the exam. That sounds like suicide to me. I'm not doubting you but it's risky doing that.

Best way to study is of course going through the textbooks. I'm doing that too. If you are planning on weekends only, better get Schweser or Stalla guides, cause I don't think you can finish reading the textbooks in that time period. All the best!

P/S Are you taking the Research Assistant job?
*
ya. should be smile.gif

Working in research house is not that busy till you need to work till 1-2am everyday. Probably happen during corporate announcements season when you have like 3-4 results in a day.

You can try to wake up early and study for 1-2 hours everyday before you go to work (though i never did so).

icic. thanks for the advice smile.gif
