fino, i know that if u really pass all 3 levels u're undergraduate really don't matter already.. because cfa is really really difficult.. and people change, they may work harder for their cfa compared to their undergraduate, if you can pass level 1 it is mostly equivalent to an undergraduate degree (if you exclude ivy leagues university)

i just wanted to see how she would answer the question and know what she really getting into.. if she only wanna do it because she thinks she can replace for her undergraduate.. then have to think twice.. it's not wrong but u need to have the passion and commitment to pass.. not like u think just taking it automatically pass and get into analyst job..

is it fino? i didn't know that heheh

but a master's degree take shorter time.. but i did hear that cfa is a post grad program.. so it's natural if it's the same as a master's program.. just harder to pass

if you are planning to become a fund manager, then yes, CFA will help you alot

Level 3 covers a huge portion of portfolio management, so you gotta complete all 3 levels..

Level 1 is like giving you an idea what the investment industry is like

While level 2 is more on valuation

there's no guarantee to get an analyst job.. it depends on you entirely.. however this program is very tough, having pass that gives you a decent chance against other people..

it shows that you have completed a vigorous program and that you have what it takes to do the job.. however, getting the job is all about competition and it depends alot on several other factors (interview, job experience)

malaysia might not regard CFA as highly as Singapore or US, so if you can't get a job here, you can always move

mercury, what if they want to start from bottom again but they don't wanna take another degree with that requires another 3 years?

since they can study and work at the same time while taking CFA

3 years

Added on January 6, 2012, 3:29 amEdit : The fastest route is 2 years, however most people take about 4 years on average..

If you don't fail any exams, it should take you about 2 and the half years

i completely agree with what fino has said.

The text books actually tells alot of stuffs not required to PASS the exam.. but they train the way you think and not to see things on surface level, and also how to become an unbiased analyst. Some personally enjoy the things in the text books. I find it quite difficult to remember stuffs from the text books although the concept is simple.

I find schweser notes quite effective. I gave up the text books after reading 2 of them simply because I'm the type that will read and try to understand every line. It is practically impossible to finish it on my pace. I will read the books to improve my knowledge after the exam (now i'm just concentrating on passing) and by that time I should already understand the basics and the reading materials from the text books should come easy and I don't have to memorize the concept.

fino hahaha ! when and where? : p

anyway.. My name have small capital letters as i've mentioned earlier and i've written to CFA and ask. They said it would not impact as long as the name matches the one in my passport. Capital letters or small letters does not matter.

I'm gonna print that email out in case they don't let me in

I agree that many people overlooked alternative investments and due to this they achieve what they call 1 star short in the exams..

(all 70% except alternative investments - very heart pain)
