QUOTE(chokia @ Apr 11 2017, 04:29 PM) is faster storage like thunderbolt / ssd help? or izzit just a waste since the box only support USb 2.0 Too expensive to invest for this box, might as well buy a better unit? When I changed to this white box from a old silver unit. I was told if my old unit were damaged by negligent I need to pay RM150.00 for it. But it was not the case. My old silver unit LCD display were no longer working. So i got it free. QUOTE(OCMAX @ Apr 11 2017, 12:58 PM) So you cleared everything to give way to KODI. but quasar eat up a lot of space if you select large vid to watch. I think quasar is the problem. i cant think of any better alternative, my 50Mbps unifi will allows upto 5.5Mbps download speed on quasar good enough to stream DTS HDMA movie without stutter. But then quasar keep hogging the whole process of browsing the movies and other function like to clear library. The whole kodi will restart. seems like Quasar keep updating something in the backgroundThis post has been edited by chokia: Apr 11 2017, 04:37 PM |

So far so good and Genesis & flixnet get better pic quality compared with openload, exodus, specto. |

QUOTE(OCMAX @ Apr 11 2017, 04:24 PM) Ah so storage shouldn't be a problem then.. unless you are actually storing every single content you stream.. As Chokia posted.... Kodi alone and say 1.7GB free space is more than enough for thumbnails, settings, a couple addons, etc. Where you may have isssue is with free fast RAM, as Kodi caches content in RAM and not the internal storage as most may believe. Kodi also requires 3 times free RAM for caching. Example, setting cache size of 150MB, means that the device must have at least 450 - 600MB free RAM, after opening Kodi. Else, face crashes, unnecessary buffering, etc. All these and more can be found and discussed in the dedicated Kodi thread. QUOTE(chokia @ Apr 11 2017, 04:29 PM) is faster storage like thunderbolt / ssd help? or izzit just a waste since the box only support USb 2.0 Nah, not until thunderbolt or premium SSD drives.. Those would be useless.. Remember that even a regular 2.0 thumbdrive is an SSD too.. Just works slower. Here's how I see it.. Ideal conditions is that you use the much faster on-board eMMC & RAM storage for such.. However, having a decent say 16/32GB 3.0 ext drive won't hurt and will perform better than a generic 1TB 2.0 ext drive. |

The reason why i use Quasar because it's a torrent client, and i can choose huge movie file with lossless surround sound. (DTS HDMA, Dolby True HD, Dolby Atmos, DTS-X)Openload, genesis reborn. (DTS HDMA, Dolby True HD, Dolby Atmos, DTS-X) I know. That's why the 1gb ram & stock ROM space won't be enough for you. This post has been edited by OCMAX: Apr 11 2017, 04:46 PM |

QUOTE(OCMAX @ Apr 11 2017, 04:35 PM) Too expensive to invest for this box, might as well buy a better unit? Yeah.. Better invest in a better box.. There are decent 3GB RAM with 32GB eMMC ROM devices out there running Android 5.1 or 6 out there... Saves a ton of headache with the right one. Or the better known devices with 2GB RAM & 16GB ROM.. Either will offer smoother and most importantly a "hassle-free" Kodi experience. When I changed to this white ox from a old silver unit. I was told if my old unit were damaged by negligent I need to pay RM150.00 for it. But it was not the case. My old silver unit LCD display were no longer working. So i got it free. I run Krypton 17.1, the latest SPMC and etc... on a Minix Neo U1 and face no such issues.. Box stays cool, powers on at the push of a button and just chugs along.. Once down, power down.. No fuss, no hassle.. |
