Butterworth base is already been planned for a land-swap redevelopment, new air base is planned at Ara kuda
The journalist probably never heard of planespotters, any pictures taken outside the base looking into the base or the planes in it is not against the law (more like there's no law for it) and these guys can literally camp just outside the security fence The problem with butterworth is that its an old legacy ww2 british airbase and any expansion is out of the question, so the air force have planned it to move to new location in few years time |

Actually very ridiculous that private homes are right at the doorstep of a military base.
There should have been a safety buffer radius for the airbase. This post has been edited by xtemujin: Jun 29 2015, 02:04 PM |

QUOTE(LTZ @ Jun 29 2015, 11:19 AM) Sungai besi pun sama....Lumut naval base pun sama.... in malaysia, development is priority over security. QUOTE(LTZ @ Jun 29 2015, 11:43 AM) But I still salute to the journalist...... this is the issue that ignored by ppl especially those higher authorities. Many bases have this kind of problem...which is not supposed to be For lumut base,BNS already take 50% of base space, look like both share the base. if me i will move BNS to opposite place (Tanjung Batu), make more bigger close shipyard capability to construction 6000 tons class navy ship. after move out BNS, not problem to park 2-3 unit 13k-20k tons LPD and otherwell if navy/Airforce base close to or in city this kind of think will happen, we can't stop/restrict city development which bring economy, means budget military development too, one day it will come, also hard for local/state/fed Gov stop city development. it also happen in many country。 only way to do is move base out from city and restrict development at new area。 This post has been edited by waja2000: Jun 29 2015, 02:22 PM |

Russia to Complete Construction of Airship ‘Atlant’ for Army by 2018 ![]() 'Augur RosAeroSystems' is a leading Russian lighter-than-air manufacturer. The company builds big airships and aerostats equipped with high-precision computer equipment and technology. The recent announcement by the company tells of airship 'Atlant' to be ready for the Russian Army by 2018. The ‘Augur-RosAeroSystems’ Holding is set to build the airship ‘Atlant’ by the end of 2018. It will have the capacity of carrying over 16 tons of weight. RosAeroSystems is a leading Russian lighter-than-air manufacturer. The company builds big airships and aerostats. It is the only Russian enterprise, and one of the few in the world with own and powerful aerostatic envelope production division, able to produce and test envelopes up to 50 000 cub m volume. The envelope production line is equipped by high-precision computerized cutting equipment and RF welding machines. The airship ‘Atlant’ will possibly be used by the Defense Ministry. According to the Vice President of the Holding, Mikhail Talesnikov, the development work of the first phase will be completed in December of this year. It will be examined, displaying the innovation system balancing. By 2018, ‘Atlant’ is scheduled to begin flight testing with the first prototype carrying weight capacity of 16 tons and volume of 30 thousand cubic meters. The vice president stressed that this innovation cannot be made by anyone else in the world in such a short time span. “During the unloading of the weight at the point of arrival, the airship will be able to get heavier via controls without needing ballast, in that way it will not get weightless after unload and will not soar into the stratosphere. This system is unique, nowhere abroad do they have that,” elaborated Talesnikov, media reports. It was earlier reported that the modification of the airships towards more militarized concept is being carried out on airship ‘Atlant-30’- carrying capacity of 16 tons and airship ‘Atlant-100’- carrying capacity of 60 tons. http://sputniknews.com/military/20150628/1023962970.html |

Myanmar may be in talks to buy Thunder fighters from Pakistan Myanmar could become the first overseas buyer of the JF-17 Thunder or FC-1 Xiaolong multirole fighter jointly developed by Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group of China, according to China's official newswire Xinhua on June 28. Li Yuhai, the deputy general manager of Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) said three Thunder fighters from the Pakistan Air Force were displayed at the Paris Air Show between June 15-21. A number of countries including Myanmar, Bangladesh, Argentina, Bulgaria, Nigeria, Venezuela, Zimbabwe and the Philippines reportedly expressed interest in purchasing the fighter from Pakistan. Air Commodore Syed Muhammad Ali, spokesperson for the Pakistan Air Force told Agence France-Presse that one of the aforementioned nations had made a final decision to buy the fighter. An earlier report from Pakistan's 92 News had said Sri Lanka had already singed a contract to become the first overseas buyer of the plane. Wing Commander Gihan Seneviratne, spokesperson for the Sri Lankan air force, told Xinhua on June 22 however that his nation had not yet reached any deal with Pakistan for the fighters. The Washington DC-based Defense News said the mystery nation is likely to be Myanmar because the head of the country's air force, General Khin Aung Myint, was in Pakistan at the end of May for a four-day visit where he visited various bases and installations though very little was said about his trip at the time. Myanmar has a long tradition of operating Chinese military aircraft. It currently has 48 A-5C attackers, 52 F-7M fighters and four Y-8 cargo planes. http://www.wantchinatimes.com/news-subclas...=20150629000073 |
