QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Jun 24 2015, 04:14 PM) Kisah the speed only? only if you have air control and all surface anti air have been cleared... ok vs insurgents/peenoise sulukz... but wanna use for conventional warfare? become target practice...F-5 old design already, I'm pretty sure Hawk is far superior in every respect. Keep in mind TUDM operates the single-seat light fighter version of the Hawk (Hawk 208) with far better performance, armament and electronics, not the lame two-seater advanced trainer one most people use. ![]() |

QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Jun 24 2015, 05:57 PM) Probably not, but thats why planes have flare and chaff dispensers. that's why f-35a are to replace a-10s... a-10 is in a whole diff class, it has 2 engines, heavily armored, especially pilot cage.. and operated by a strong air superiority backing compared to hawk... diff rolesAlso, by your standards, A-10 would also be an super useless plane because clearly it cannot outrun a MANPADS missile, fire air-to-air missiles or gain air superiority. |

QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Jun 24 2015, 06:24 PM) Why should replace F-5 with FA-50? then hawk also light fighter right? I always thought MiG-29 is the replacement already for the F-5. Is there still need for TUDM to have light fighters since we can already afford some of the more advanced fighters in the world? |

QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Jun 24 2015, 10:53 PM) BAe Hawk 208 more of a light fighter/bomber aircraft, a duty it shares with FA-18. Unlike F-5 which is a pure air superiority fighter. errr.. so now hawk thenIn TUDM air superiority fighter duties all passed to MiG-29 and Su-30 already. So a replacement for a light air superiority fighter is redundant. |

QUOTE(Frozen_Sun @ Jun 27 2015, 01:16 AM) So what to do? Stay silent despite of the intrusion? This operation is performed inside Indonesian territory, not Malaysian...what's wrong with that? intrusion or not is debatable.. but the reaction towards these incidents is bad for diplomacy... for instance the sinking of fishing boats of neighboring countries, the force landing of singkie commercial chartered planes, the execution of foreign citizens on death rows, nationalization of foreign investment.... and all are towards non hostile countries... they should in the spirit of asean lodge a protest or give warning first... |

QUOTE(Frozen_Sun @ Jun 27 2015, 02:09 AM) Already sent......but there's nothing wrong with starting an operation in Indonesia's own territory. Indonesia has no intention to intrude Malaysia territory like what Malaysia is doing, so why so concerned? the problem is the indons think it is an intrusion while others dispute it, the inefficiency of indon gov is horrible, the military dont coordinate well with its civil authority whether is it aviation or maritime... if you think msian military/civil dept are tidor, wait till you meet indon officials... they go all out to create trouble so they can get paid (via fine or angpow)http://www.cnnindonesia.com/internasional/...es-ke-malaysia/ http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore...re-plane-201410 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-28...plane-land.html http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-11-04/indo...-kupang/5864212 http://www.globalindonesianvoices.com/1719...-for-australia/ look at the cases above... |

QUOTE(IReallyNeed Answers @ Jun 27 2015, 02:24 AM) no with us only... with many other parties that are not hostile to them... and many are within asean... there's no need for such unnecessary actions but yet the ppl within jokowi's administration are causing so much trouble for others... i initially thought sby would be the one causing ruckus since he was a former indon general with links to the 1998 riot and human rights violation at east timor but he did a good job managing indon i would say yet this new guy which so many ppl have high hopes on is gong down south |

QUOTE(Frozen_Sun @ Jun 27 2015, 02:37 AM) Yeah....we'll see who's right But, I tell you one thing....Jokowi is better than Prabowo. With Prabowo, things will be much more "lively"..... I agree that there shouldn't be any kind of conflict.....negotiation is still priority....don't worry. QUOTE(Frozen_Sun @ Jun 27 2015, 02:40 AM) yeah.....I prefer SBY too.....don't really support both Jokowi and Prabowo....both are less refined than SBY. Can't run for 3rd term according to law so sad for such a huge coutnry and yet they only get to choose between these numbskulls.. golkar bakrie another rotten egg... i dont see how all these non sense can help them make frens... sby was very diplomatic with others thus attracting foreign investments... only conflict was on aus' spying on his wife and some beef issue i can recall or even if u add in forest clearing for palm, hardly anything big happened under sby... this new joker... |

SAF promotes first female to Brigadier-General rank
![]() Soon-to-be Brigadier-General (BG) Gan Siow Huang, one of the seven Colonels promoted to the rank of BG and RADM (One -Star) on Friday, was among the first four women to receive the SAF merit scholarship in 1993. SINGAPORE: The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) now has their first female Brigadier-General (BG). Col Gan Siow Huang was one of seven Colonels promoted to the rank of BG and RADM (One -Star) at the annual SAF promotion ceremony on Friday (Jun 26). She will assume her rank on Jul 1. She was among the first four women to receive the SAF merit scholarship in 1993, and she now heads the Joint Manpower Department. In recent years, she has been making calls for more women to choose the SAF as a career. Currently, close to 1,500 women hold combat jobs in the SAF, less than 10 per cent of SAF regular personnel. Every year, about 60 women join the army. She said that women enter the competitive military environment late compared to their male counterparts, but over the years, there has been a gradual increase in confidence in their capabilities. Despite making history, the SAF's chief recruiter does not believe that her appointment will make it easier for women in the force to advance, "Every individual still has to put in their best. (At the end of the day,) it is still which individual is best for the job." The mother of three added that family support has been critical for her to get to where she is today. Her in-laws and her husband, a former regular, have both pitched in to help with the care of her young daughters who are between the ages of three and eleven. "Being able to go to work everyday is a bonus, so I make every single day count," she adds. In total, SAF is promoting 413 officers, 74 military experts and 34 warrant officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force this year. They include Regulars and Operationally Ready National Servicemen. Military expert (ME7) Cheong Han Kwok Francis was also promoted to ME8, a rank equivalent to a Brigadier-General or One -Star Rear Admiral. The rank of military expert is unique to Singapore. The job scope was introduced in 2009 to develop expertise and specialisation in key areas like engineering and intelligence. He said: ""There's slowly greater recognition, not just from the man in the street, the people whom we meet, but also from our foreign counterparts, who in the initial days were fairly unfamiliar with our ranks. But today, they can see the rank and do the read across fairly seamlessly." - CNA/eg After graduating from the London School of Economics, she rose through the ranks and is now head of the SAF's joint manpower department. She is also something of a poster girl for the SAF's recruitment campaign for women. Her successful military career included stints drafting policies, and commanding the Republic of Singapore Air Force's 203 squadron and Air Surveillance and Control Group. But the 39-year-old is also a proud mother of three girls: Ella, nine; Emma, five; and Eleanor, one. Despite her current 8am-to-7pm work routine, Col Gan still manages to spend at least three hours with her daughters in their Bukit Panjang home. "It is always a joy to be there to witness every step of their growing-up years," said Col Gan, who is married to Mr Lee Jek Suen. It was through the military that they met in 1994. He was a naval officer studying in Britain on an SAF scholarship. They got married in 1998. Mr Lee, who left the service in 2006 for the private sector, said in jest: "At least she was holding a stable job, allowing me to be more adventurous with my job options." Col Gan said her second pregnancy was her "most trying" because her husband was away in Algeria. After that, the family decided to settle down, with Mr Lee taking twice-monthly work trips to Shanghai. Col Gan, who also has a Master of Business Administration from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, admitted that as a pioneer female scholarship recipient, she does face some pressure to meet people's expectations. http://news.asiaone.com/print/News/Latest%...722-438997.html |

QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Jun 30 2015, 09:27 AM) Considering ATM already has like 9-10 female Generals already (if not more, not sure about details), this is quite surprising. to be a general in the saf 90% of the time you have to be a scholar.. and for most females in sg, saf is one of the last place to get a scholarship... if one is commission into the saf via normal route, usually the highest rank you will be able to obtain is col. |
