QUOTE(BorneoAlliance @ Aug 26 2015, 08:25 AM) During his Malaysian trip, French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian will discuss the possibility of delivering to Malaysia the two Mistral-class warships initially built for Russia, the French newspaper Tribune reported. Haha I feel like I'm reading news from an alternate dimension, where Malaysia is filthy rich country.

Russia to broaden counter-terrorism support, assistance to Egypt Egyptian president Abdel Fatah al-Sissi and Russian president Vladimir Putin has agreed to broaden Russian assistance in counter-terrorism operations in the middle east. The presidents met yesterday at a state visit by the Egyptian president to Moscow, the third in the last two months. Among the counter-terrorism assistance programs agreed between the two countries include shared military intelligence and increased Russian technical assistance and counter-terrorism training. Putin has also called for Arab regional leaders to create a unified front in their efforts to combat the expansion of IS. Russia is ramping up its support of al-Sissi after the former military supremo seized power from the democratically elected Muslim Brotherhood-dominated Egyptian government, resulting in a cooling of relations between Cairo and Washington. The US has suspended some of its military adn financial support to Egypt as a result, including reviewing a deal to supply 16 US Apache attack helicopters to Egypt.

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Aug 31 2015, 09:00 PM) thank you also to the British and commonwealth forces who helped achieve and subsequently defend Malaya's independence (even though they could have just left like the FRENCH) The 'cut all ties' independence method is very risky to do. Sometimes it works OK (Indonesia) , but sometimes it can cause chaos and permanent damage that newly independent country may never quite heal (most African countries). Learning from earlier f*cked-up efforts at giving independence to its colonies in the 1950s, the French after the 1960s decided to make it a prerequisite for any country that it gives independence to for it to host a number of French troops to permanently safeguard its interests. The Portuguese and Belgians also guilty of abandoning their African colonies unilaterally and causing chaos there. It was clear the colonies weren't prepared for independence and the various parties in each colonies immediately tried to claim all of the country for themselves.Their colonies were embroiled almost immediately in civil wars that took decades to stop. I for one are thankful we had help from UK & commonwealth in the early days of our independence. Easy to dismiss now by modern eyes, but looking back hard I think we had significant foreign (Indonesia & Philippines) & domestic (PKM) threats to our country back then and for me the help was very much appreciated. Without British & Commonwealth presence Indonesia and Philippines would have been bolder and probably more militarily aggressive in asserting their claims for Malaysian territories. QUOTE(Gregyong @ Sep 2 2015, 03:18 AM) so........receiving 20 helmet condoms are news worthy? I get what it does, but i dont think an aid package of 20 of them is significant considering how many boots are on the ground With a piece of camo cloth, elastic band & sewing machine I think some random dude could probably make one in literally 10 minutes. Israelis meanwhile would probably charge the Ukrainians $50 USD a piece. Jews, amirite?

China's People's Liberation Army faces aggressive reforms, President Xi Jinping promises a force that 'can fight and win wars' Female soldiers march by a billboard of Chinese president Xi Jinping with the slogan "Strive to build a People's Liberation Army that obeys the Party, Wins the war and has outstanding work style"In anticipation of the upcoming WW2 commemorations in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping has promised to trim and streamline the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and its constituent parts. President Xi, who wields enormous influence over the government and military, unlike his predecessors Hu Jintao, has said that China needs to take advantage of its prosperity to modernize and streamline its defense structure in view of future challenges. Among items discussed for the reforms include plans to trim the top-heavy officer corps and to reduce the fighting force by 30,000 troops while more reliance would be put into advanced technology and improved intelligence. Plans are also afoot to create an increased network-centric mode of battle to better coordinate the military structure. But perhaps the biggest change is plans for the PLA Naval and Air Force branches to cease being subordinate to the PLA Ground Forces and be more autonomous in their policies and procurement. This would give enormous benefit to both branches as leadership, command systems, and force structure will be apportioned more evenly among the services to support integrated joint operations. Experts say the biggest winner of these proposed reforms would almost probably be the PLA Navy. Already shaping itself into a modern fleet with state-of the-art warships and with its recent increased responsibilities due to Chinese maritime claims, the Navy would be privy to significantly increased funding and resources to enable it to safeguard these responsibilities.

QUOTE(alaskanbunny @ Sep 7 2015, 01:49 PM) apa armour? not slant armour? not reactive.. ? Slant and ERA armor is sooo last century. Ceramic composite armor plates like Chobham armor is where the future's at. Ultra-dense Depleted Uranium (DU) armor is also available if you have the resources. QUOTE(alaskanbunny @ Sep 8 2015, 10:30 AM) initial pxl was to disguise the frame of the user under electronic sensor aka night vision infra red... aka conventional warfare but recently there's an increase of unconventional warfare aka vs terrorist, insurgence, separatist which do not possess such tech, therefore urban and environment blending becomes priority with new development in material sc, they are able to solve both at the same time You don't need digital/pixel camo to hide from IR/thermal sensors. Any camo color/pattern made with good IR resistant dye can be used to hide form IR sensors. Actually its because some research has claim to have shown that pixelated camo has a fractal pattern factor which made its colors have a more convincing environmental camouflage effect at close, intermediate and long range of human vision. Also, pixelated effects break up camouflage patterns more subtly and effectively than solid colors.

QUOTE(alaskanbunny @ Sep 9 2015, 10:57 PM) 10km... sure or not, so small Most ATGM range is limited by the length of their guidance wire, not the rocket engine. So wireless or laser-guided missiles can have longer range over wired ones.

QUOTE(alaskanbunny @ Sep 9 2015, 11:38 PM) after 10km would there enough kinetic energy or propellant left for an effective penetration? HEAT doesn't rely on velocity for penetration. All the work is done by the shaped explosive warhead. In fact the slower the projectile the better it is for the Monroe effect to burn through the metal.

QUOTE(alaskanbunny @ Sep 9 2015, 11:44 PM) betol ke nih HEAT warhead need to have an optimum certain distance from the armor plate for the penetrating plasma jet stream to properly form from the explosion. Slow projectile means the plasma jet stream of the HEAT warhead have time to focus properly to burn through armor. If projectile is too fast the jet stream may not have time to focus properly or the projectile may slam into the armor before the the shaped charge warhead's detonation can trigger the plasma jet stream, causing no penetration in either case.

QUOTE(alaskanbunny @ Sep 9 2015, 11:58 PM) dun get your focusing part... Hmm OK, HEAT warhead needs a 'stand-off' range between the explosion and the armor plate. Because the plasma jet stream is a side-effect of the shaped charge detonating, it needs a bit of time for the detonation to develop the plasma jet stream. Miliseconds, but the delay is still there. If you see the chart above, you can see the stages plasma jet stream developing from the warhead charge. Top pic is the unexploded warhead and bottom pic is the part where the plasma jet stream is fully focused and is the most effective against armor. A slower projectile gives time for the plasma jet stream to fully focus and give maximum penetration. A projectile that is too fast may cause the projectile to hit the armor when the jet stream isn't yet fully focused or may haven't even formed. This is an example of an RPG-7 penetration. You can see the explosion creating the penetrating plasma jet stream well after the warhead actually impacts the armor. If the RPG-7 warhead is a bit faster, you can imagine the plasma jet stream have only started to form but not focused enough to be effective.

Giant Russian transport planes landing in Latakia as Russia steps up support for the Syrian government Antonov An-124 Strategic transport airplaneAt least 3 giant Antonov An-124 strategic transport airplanes have been observed landing in Latakia air base in Syria in the past week. The transport planes, capable of carrying up to 150 tons of vehicles or materiel, have become a more frequent sight in Syria after Russia decided to escalate their military support for embattled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Reports on the arrival of Russian military advisory & combat personnel and heavy equipment have also surfaced. US and NATO officials have criticized the increased Russian involvement, saying the action may further destabilize the situation in Syria. NATO have asked their member states along the Russian air supply routes to Syria to close their airspace to Russian military flights. Russia meanwhile have responded saying they are only implementing an existing defense agreement made between Syria and the Soviet Union in the 1970s.

QUOTE(alaskanbunny @ Sep 10 2015, 08:25 PM) Not so useless la. For most part M1 Abrams, even vanilla M1A1 export standard is still far more advanced than 60-70% of tanks in the market today. If used correctly with good infantry support, it's still the #1 killer.

One Chinese patrol vessel armed mahu kecoh, padahal nearly ALL Japanese coast guard patrol vessels are armed minimum 20mm autocannon, even small ones under 180tons. Nobody bising2 also.

QUOTE(waja2000 @ Sep 15 2015, 11:47 AM) ya,just BS... Long time ago Japan coast guard already mount 40mm navy gun on vessel. (PL51 class) Actually Japan started heavily arming their patrol vessels in the 1970s after a ton of infiltrations from North Korean spy and infiltration boats. They kept the policy after the NK threat has receded. Also, just 1 operational CCG vessel has guns (sister ship still under construction), also want to kecoh? Its small 76mm gun won't do diddly squat against a medium-sized patrol vessel. Smaller patrol boats can be severely damaged or even sunk, but if Japanese CG send these against the 3901, it really needs to have its collective head checked.
