aaaaaaaand it arrived today!!

I have no picture to show, but here's what I thought (First Impression from a non-gamer).

Build Quality =
A bit filmsy. When I use menu buttons and all that, the whole thing kinda wobble. I'm not sure which is better, V-stand or big fat flat stand, but I think V-stand might give better support. Then what is bad in my book? Back in the days, Samsung sell a very wobbly LCD monitor. That is bad. I'll never forget it, because that's what most CC uses.

Things in box =
I am a big fan when supplier/manufacturer includes display cables. This comes with 1x DP, and 2x HDMI. +1 in my book <3

Ports on monitor =
Again, big fan. Saves me the trouble plugging in-n-out from CPU case. +1

Screen real estate =
It's (almost) edge-to-edge display. I like it!

Curvy screen =
It's my first time using it, and my daily driver is a macbook pro. Scrolling window side-to-side is very... comfortable. It feels like Spider-Man scrolling an interface when he's making a new suit.

Screen quality/color =
Ah, the elephant in the room! Honestly, it is true that the color setting out of the box is pretty bad (Standard setting). But I find the default custom settings are quite good, at least the white looks pretty white to me! (default custom setting has everything in 50%. 50%RGB 50%CMY etc )
Black is very black. My MBP can only output 1080p via HDMI, so I have leftover screen real estate on both sides, and I get to compare the black on the side. It looks like they're the same (97% ish or more, I feel)
I am getting a Thunderbolt2 DP cable, and that should allow me to use the entire glory of this monitor.
Then what about black smearing?!
I haven't experience anything like that just yet :/ It wasn't as obvious to me.

Verdict:
At a RM1900(Dell Malaysia website) price point, it is actually a decent buy. I like how it looks, how it feels, and the extra functions it provided. Getting the right color can be a pain in the ass, but it is definitely not the end of the world.

Bro, can comment on the HDR performance of S34222DWG? i know is a hdr400 panel without local dimming but the VA panel seems ok if not at total dark condition, brightness can get 500+nits based on rtings.

Hi bro, just wondering which website u bought for the price 1.9k? I checked currently thay model is price bout 2.2k. or the price already increased? Shopee also selling around this proce, with 4years warranty.

Also question to veteran ultrawide user, im planning to change my current prism x340 pro to this dell s3422dwg, but wonder my current ultrawide is 1500r curve, and the dell is 1800r, which is better? I bought my prism+ in January 2021. My biggest issues with this monitor is the edgelight bleed, and also glow in dark scenes. The color is quite good for me, the hdr somewhat dim in certain games, also yellowish. It used to be flickering a lot when enable gsync, it was really bothersome, but recently i notice currently the flickering is lot less to almost gone which is very good, i believe Nvidia has something to do with it.

For VA, you will less worried on edge bleeding and no blooming but it is still have some black uniformity issue, this monitor from rtings review is very good black uniformity but only slightly cloudy issue.

If you gaming in dark and want pure black, they is only two option which is not cheap. Either OLED panel or mini LED with VA as based and local dimming support.

For the curve wise, Dell is less curve but shouldn't be any issue. It is still look good and 1800 is much common than 1500. If you want even curve, only Samsung do 1000 but their Odyssey G5 is the only Ultrawide model which not support local dimming and not a mini LED, also it had less perfect black uniformity than Dell.

Both review can be check from rtings.

I am using Alienware AW3821DW with my Macbook Air. The issue I had since I received the monitor last year; Ghosting, Persistent images, and vertical line. I will be returning the monitor for refund since Dell couldn't get a new monitor for me.

With refund that I will be getting and add a few bucks, I am looking at LG Ultragear 38GN950. Anyone has experience with this monitor?

Also I am open for other recommendations

Im using the monitor for productivity work; coding, graphics. no gaming.

Hey guys, can anyone recommend or comment on either LG 32GN600 or Gigabyte G32QC? Both are around the same price range with the LG being slightly cheaper.

Will do some light gaming, media consumption, and some casual spreadsheet work.

Why not go with the alienware ultrawide oled monitor instead? Picture quality seems to be the best at the moment. Risk of burn in is there but marginal i guess

I’ll be losing out the extra vertical height since the reso is lower.

Hi guys, I am looking for a 34" ultrawide monitor for the first time. Can anyone recommend me one with the budget around RM1.7k.

Mainly use for coding, reading stuff and watching video. Will connect personal laptop and work laptop to it.

Currently I am eyeing on these three monitors:

Philips 346b1c ( RM1699~ )
Xiaomi 34" ( RM1650~ )
Acer XZ342CU P ( RM1485~)

- Out of these three monitors, Acer is the cheapest one but somehow I can't really find that much of reviews from the internet. So, if anyone here own this monitor or used it before, can you share with me your experience?

- I understand that there is an extra plus point on 346b1c by having a built in KVM switch, but I am okay without it as well because I can just use an external KVM switch.

So, please any sifus here can suggest me which one should I go based on those 3 listed here. Or can recommend me another 34" monitor that is within my budget. Thanks!

External power brick supply, only 1 DP and 1 HDMI input, decent built-in speakers (good range) though not loud..... though all should be very similar in pic quality as they use the same/similar Samsung VA panel..

I also vote for Acer XZ342CU as from the spec, this model is the best. This model also is the only one support HDR but don't put too high hope on it as HDR need at least HDR 600 to be look ok. For HDR 400 normally it will look dull or over exposure in very bright scenes.
The most I will not take is Philips 346b1c as it came with the most weak spec, unless you need KVM, else I don't see this model is worth to get.

For Xiaomi 34", I seen it before, I don't like the build, it looks very cheap, I know all monitor basically is plastic but Xiaomi finish look cheap. Beside this, the screen look not appealing to me, a bit dull color to me, also the finish seems too matte and look sands to me.

Since all 3 models is VA panel, beware they might have black smearing issue as until now only Samsung Odyssey G7, Neo G7, Neo G8, G9 and Neo G9 don't have Black Smearing issue. But from all the cost of this 3 model, I doubt they use latest VA panel from Samsung.

Thank you for your reply. But, regarding the number of ports, what I found from the internet is, XZ342CUP come with 2 HDMI input and 1 DP input. Hmm, external power brick supply can be quite a hassle when doing the cable management. sad.gif

Thank you for your reply. I did some research and watch videos about the black smearing on the VA panel, and I see that many people comment how unbearable is the black smearing issue on VA panel. I mean is that really that bad? Because I don't do that much of gaming, hence I don't really care about how the monitor affect the gaming performance or the immersion. But I will spend most of the time coding and reading documentation/pdf/etc , and I saw (from the video/reddit post) that the text can be very blurry on VA panel when doing smooth scrolling even in medium speed.

I heard that black smearing issue seem to arise when the monitor has high refresh rate. So, do you think is it possible to minimize the black smearing issue by lowering down to 60Hz.

Because productivity is my biggest concern. So, if purely based on the productivity, do you think that Acer XZ342CUP is still a good choice? If not, what are your recommendations in the budget of within RM1.7k.

(P.S: I do code in dark mode, but it will not going to be fully black background and white text. And I like to read in night mode but I doubt if there is any website that is fully black background + white text in night mode )

Thank you. notworthy.gif

The black smearing is not a huge issue in gaming to me, but instead in productivity, especially if you love dark themes. If you using Light theme then it is not that bad, but still you can't avoid to see text gone when you scrolling at website which background is dark/black with white font.

If you scrolling in dark mode when coding, then you will notice the text is like clipping and dismiss. This issue will make some people headache or irritating.
If you can accept text disappearing / blinking during scrolling, then you are good with it and no issue.

I suggest you go for IPS, IPS is better for productivity but for budget below RM 2k, seems they is no choice for IPS in Ultrawide.
IPS had wide viewing angle, this is good if you need to share with people what you had do. IPS also normally better in color accuracy, this is important if you also do design.

Below this video showing the disappearing white text in dark background issue, start from 8:15
This issue only fixed recently by Samsung in it highest end Odyssey model but it only start from G7 and unfortunately the only Ultrawide 21:9 model G5 is using older VA panel and also have this issue.
For others brand never seen reviewer mentioned don't have such issue, it is just how bad or how little they are.

Yes correction: 2x HDMI 2.0 inputs...

VA has excellent contrast compared to IPS.... great black levels

These panels uses standard RGB arrangement, so no impact on text (as in they would not look worst than IPS)... as for black smearing (while scrolling for instance) these panels are not the fastest at an average of 6 to 7ms...G2G transition... Good enough for 144Hz.

I use black background linux terminals while coding... no clipping or disappearing issue while scrolling...

Actually (usually) pixel response time works best at above 120Hz (optimally at 144Hz) and not 60Hz...

As long as you don't use your monitor in complete darkness... it should be fine... otherwise backlight bleeding or blooming maybe more obvious

Backlight bleeding and blooming is never issue for VA but IPS. You sure you use VA panel?

I currently have 3 VAs... of which Acer XZ342CU P is one...and yes, in an almost completely dark room, blotches on the black background becomes obvious...

Oh. I think that is not backlight bleeding, it is just uniformity issue. As for blooming I never face before.

If you want no uniformity issue, Mini-LED in VA panel with 1000+ local dimming will give you perfect black similar like OLED, but issue is local dimming is not working well in Windows during productivity as you can seen halo effect surrounding the mouse cursor and due to this I am actually off, only on during watching movie or gaming.

I had check nearly all review of local dimming monitor and all have this issue. 😅

Definition wise, non-uniformity in 100% black or black background is known as "backlight bleed"

The standard Uniformity of a panel (test) is evaluated at 100% White...

As both refers to opposite ends... they are not quite comparable. As onthefeet is mostly using the monitor with black background, VA: suppressed dark levels better than IPS but BLB could still be an occurrence...
