1. Brand: Any brand except Lenovo and Samsung, second hand phones also can consider. 2. Budget: under RM1K 3. Specs: 2GB of RAM and microSD support or 32GB if no microSD, nanoSIM 4. What you need in the phone: A very good camera, that can do long exposure shots (more than 2 second)
From my own research Meizu M1/M2 Note have this requirement and Xiaomi Mi4/i/c also fits in the category. I want to know whether I miss other phones that can do long exposure shots.

1. Brand: Anything except Samsung, Sony and Lenovo 2. Budget: Under 1k 3. Specs: 5 inch screen, 2GB RAM, if possible microSD card or large internal (32GB) 4. What you need in the phone: Around 5 inch screen or less (resolution doesn't matter), able to root easily, good speaker (something like Oneplus One loudness and quality), great camera with manual control, dedicated touch button instead of on screen button, long battery life.
My requirement is simple; I don't need ultra high resolution display, even 1280x720 is enough for me but what I need is good speaker, good camera with manual control, a capacitive navigation button under the screen and good community so I could easily root and get custom recovery for it

QUOTE(123joe @ Jan 9 2016, 02:23 PM) mi 4i 32gb opx top up a bit Thanks for the recommendation, I did some research and this is what I found. Mi4i camera manual mode isn't as vast as some other phones like Meizu ones, image quality is good though judging from my friend's mi4i. It's better than pathetic Sony Z3 Compact image quality. Oneplus X Oxygen Camera UI is a huge disappointment as compared to excellent Oneplus One Cyanogen camera UI because it have no manual mode whatsoever QUOTE(Cranky guy @ Jan 9 2016, 10:46 PM) It's not easy to find an Android with a physical camera button anymore, especially for under RM1k. The best I can recommend is the Meizu MX4 with 32GB internal storage, though it still lacks the camera button and it's a bit bigger than your required size at 5.1-inches. After some research, I believe this is the best phone that suit my needs and budget. The screen might be big but it's wider 5:3 ratio instead of 16:9 on most other phones, it's rare but I would much prefer a wider phones than tall phone. Coupled with very small bezel on the side I can live with that. Thanks for the recommendation

QUOTE(Cranky guy @ Jan 12 2016, 02:37 PM) Search for second hand devices like this Xperia Z3 Compact on garage sales. Z3 Compact is 4.6", slightly bigger than what he wants but yeah that's the only phone with that budget, or even smaller 4.3" Z1 Compact but the phone size is relatively the same anyway so it's better opt for Z3 Compact. Other brand so-called 'Mini' phones uses much larger 5" screen. Z5 Compact is slightly out of reach at around RM2K. I believe I saw one Z5 Compact 2nd hand at Garage Sales priced around RM1.8k. But Sony phones don't generally have good cameras. Other brand have superior camera quality even when using Sony sensor Spending 1.8k is still insane IMO. With GST and our currency status means the prices of phones are ridiculously high. DirectD selling old Nexus 5 today higher than when it comes out

QUOTE(ezekiel_77 @ Jan 13 2016, 09:17 AM) Hi guys, I'm very interested in a phone with a HiFi DAC for excellent sound quality eg LG V10, Meizu MX4, Vivo X5 Max etc. Problem is AFAIK all the phones above, the DAC is only enabled in their stock music player, so streaming apps like Tidal and Spotify won'r be able to take advantage of the improved sound quality. They would be using the Snapdragon DAC only. So is there a phone that doesn't have this limitation? HiFi DAC enabled at all times? So far I think only the HTC M8/M9 has that, and I heard the Galaxy S4 uses a Wolfson DAC? Correct me if I'm wrong, I normally don't mix my phone and audiophile research lol. Thanks all. I didn't know any. Buying S4 with the right hardware is tough since Samsung is known to make a million of hardware variants using the same name. Yes some S4 have Wolfson DAC but which one? There's i9500, i9505, SHV-E300S, and GT-I9502. Only the Exynos SoC comes with Wolfson DAC. Malaysia comes in both i9500 (Exynos) and i9505 (Snapdragon) variant. IMO with streaming music there's no point of using anything HiFi since it's only mp3. I would rather have all my favorite track in FLAC or any lossless format inside the phone and use the build in music player.

Specs : 5.0 - 5.5 inch display., 3GB ram, expandable SD, 3000mAh battery 4. What you need in the phone: good camera for mobile photography, basically like LGG4 or moto x play. looking for slightly cheaper alternative. If you don't mind buy second hand phone you can look at Garage Sales, I see a few selling their G4 at around RM1.5K

QUOTE(NightFelix @ Jan 25 2016, 01:18 AM) Ops. forgot this phone existence.. Edit: Check the sample, I found that too much noise and detail lost compare to iPhone 6S Plus. This is Android thread I see the samples from 6S Plus samples, nope. CM1 is superior. If you compare apple to apple ISO level, the DMC1 offers far superior image quality.

QUOTE(Alan Yee @ Jan 25 2016, 01:52 PM) I get a feeling like less popular model phone tend to have much less OS support, like the phone won't get any Marshmallow update, or won't getting any bug fix. No not really, a more popular phone brand also abandoned a lot of their phones from updates. The CM1 already been upgraded to Lollipop, Marshmallow only give minor updates. But you shouldn't buy the CM1 unless you uncle benny rich, go to Lazada and search for it's price My rule of thumb for low light photography is it must have long exposure to take good pics, or if you took handheld night pics, OIS sure will help

QUOTE(Cranky guy @ Jan 27 2016, 05:53 PM) The Mi4i's main problem is that it's running the infamous Snapdragon 615 as it's processor. The 615 is known for overheating, CPU throttling and is overall just a mediocre processor. S615 overheating? That's an exaggeration, My R7 Lite doesn't overheat or throttle, my friend using mi4i and he don't have any complaint about it. But one thing I noticed is there's something wrong somewhere, I don't know if this strictly on Oppo ColorOS or maybe mpdecision or hotplug problem that controlling the core because the LITTLE cores always running at highest frequencies (around 1GHz) with all 4 cores running all the time, the 4 big cores runs dynamically with only two cores running. Setting the frequency manually and using ondemand instead of interactive governor makes the cores downclock normally. Other S615 owner who rooted could try to use apps like Kernel Adiutor and see whether their phone exhibit the same problem or not. This is the first time I'm using big.LITTLE SoC config so it's a new thing to me how the cores behave.
