No interest at XiaoMi , Lenovo and Oppo at all. One Plus One also no interest because at that time I brought Nexus 5, the OPO price is higher and the storage is same 16GB. One Plus Two really hold my interest because of S810, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage with the cheaper price 1699/1799. Can't really get any similar spec phone at that range currently but not sure for later.

Will wait till next year and see what phone to change

Would go for Sony / HTC. Spend so much on china phones is pretty pointless, they are just hardware assembler and the OS design is disgusting (iOS-alike). 
HTC is the ancestor of aluminium body trend, while Sony you get the very bright Triluminous screen and powerful 1/2.33" camera sensor (need manual mode to bring out the best of it).

Sony / HTC's firmware are very light as well, not much of "fancy optimization aka gimmicky <insert name> OS" from vanilla Android. It might not fit the taste of casual users, but certainly fit minimalists.

Samsung Note 5, LG V10 and Nexus 6P are pretty much the be all end all for expensive Android smartphones these days.

Meanwhile the budget segment and mid-range segments are being completely dominated by Xiaomi. Redmi 3 is looking beastly with that huge battery.

Edit: As a Huawei fanboy, I also have no choice but to point out that the Mate 8 is my new favorite device.

Z3 Compact is 4.6", slightly bigger than what he wants but yeah that's the only phone with that budget, or even smaller 4.3" Z1 Compact but the phone size is relatively the same anyway so it's better opt for Z3 Compact. Other brand so-called 'Mini' phones uses much larger 5" screen. Z5 Compact is slightly out of reach at around RM2K. I believe I saw one Z5 Compact 2nd hand at Garage Sales priced around RM1.8k. But Sony phones don't generally have good cameras. Other brand have superior camera quality even when using Sony sensor

Spending 1.8k is still insane IMO. With GST and our currency status means the prices of phones are ridiculously high. DirectD selling old Nexus 5 today higher than when it comes out

Owh...5.5 inch too big, and i already have a Z3 tablet compact for all of my multimedia needs
I'm looking for a phone that is compact but with decent camera because it will be my main drive for point & shoot activities. why smaller screen? so that i could be more social & not always find myself keep looking at the damn phone

My dad has the xperia ZR which is 4.5 inch screen, but still i find the body/bezel size a little big 
What i mean is that phone must be between 4.5 inch in size, including bezel

I've played around with Z5 compact, feels very comfortable in hand.... i believe the whole body size is less than 5 inch?
Meanwhile, C5 ultra definitely have decent front camera, wide capture vs the others. but the size also big

Well actually i'm still skeptical of mediatek devices although i did find the M5 quite attractive design wise.
Bulky & heavy, like the Z1. Sony make great tablet but the phone design not so proportional imo..

Honestly last time i'm quite reluctant to upgrade from xperia Ray straight to Z1, was waiting for Z1 compact initially but the stores in my town doesn't have it yet.
