If you are talking about the early AL4 gb, agree. Really headache.
The later AL4s such as those on the 208 (AT8) are OK. Improved version of AL4.
Just make sure it is properly maintained. And of course, for AT....if you drive like a MT gearbox, any AT gb will also kaput.
